Djnoun Grin at the possum bit
Does sound a bit of a made up word actually Grin

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 11:49

Justbackfromnewwine

if she and others just don’t accept that anyone is ‘born in the wrong body"

No one is. It's a nonsense. Happy to discuss this on FWR with you amicably and reasonably. Wouldn't want to derail this terribly important gathering. Offer is there.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/10/2018 11:51

Is a possum a different animal to an opossum?Blush

Goldenbug · 05/10/2018 11:55

It's the very opposite. Sometimes called the anti-possom. A possom and an opossom must NEVER MEET!

Justbackfromnewwine · 05/10/2018 12:01

Maybe it was a stupid question, but from what you’re saying @ereshkigal, Posie Parker does not think gender dysmorphia is a thing. I agree with what she says in general I just wanted to understand that bit. I don’t think anyone’s been born in the “wrong body” but am prepared to accept some people might feel that way and would like to treat them with compassion. (Whilst having massive concerns about young people making irreversible changes to their body etc etc).

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 12:03

Dione don't know either Blush Grin
Re the above vile comment - as someone completely brain and body wise matching up woman wise, I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to not be like that. If I had a male body, but brain says female.

At the risk of sounding Shania Twain lol, I feel like a woman. I just am. If I had male parts, that'd be scary to me.
Answering the question what makes you a woman? with because I just am, I feel it inside, is apparently the wrong answer on MN though. Made the mistake of "answering wrongly as a woman" on here before. Ah well, I know me. Presumably others do too and shouldn't be dismissed.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/10/2018 12:04

Why Goldenbug?Shock What will happen?

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/10/2018 12:09

Will the earth's polarity be reversed?

peachgreen · 05/10/2018 12:10

@Ereshkigal you are so effectively proving our point that I would almost think that you're doing it on purpose. Why would any of us want to discuss this with you on FWR when you are combative and dismissive of our views in your every post?

"No one is. It's a nonsense." Well, I disagree, as do thousands of experts. But you can't even consider that as a valid viewpoint, which is why there's no point in having the discussion.

We probably have many of the same concerns over self-ID and its implications. But ultimately, we will always fundamentally disagree on the basic facts. You believe gender and biological sex are irrevocably linked and therefore transwomen will always be men. I believe gender and biological sex can - and occasionally do - diverge, and therefore transwomen are women. You'll never persuade me otherwise and I'll never persuade you otherwise. A what's the point in discussing it?

RudeZebra · 05/10/2018 12:12

I would hide FWR, but a lot of the time it's comedy gold. Less so these days with every topic going on and on about trans. But.....

If you hide the thread you miss out on the bi-weekly circle wank.

Poster 1. OMG we're like totes the smartest, most intelligent women to have ever walked the earth.

Poster 2. We're soooo lucky so many intelligent brilliant women post here.Flowers

Justbackfromnewwine · 05/10/2018 12:12

I’m just trying to work out what ‘camp’ I’m in really and I think the answer is somewhere in the middle, like quite a lot of people? So my original point was - regular posters on the feminism board, try not to alienate people in the middle who are just getting their head round the issues.

I think I would call a transwoman by their chosen pro noun, but if asked outright if I thought they were a woman, would say no - because, well, they’re just not. They’re a transwoman. I genuinely wonder if that means stonewall for example would consider me transphobic.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 12:12

Re the above vile comment - as someone completely brain and body wise matching up woman wise, I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to not be like that. If I had a male body, but brain says female.

Why is that women's problem? Lots of medical conditions are very difficult. Male feelings are not the only feelings that count for anything, funnily enough. And again, stop smearing other women, because we will respond. That won't make others in this cosy corner very happy. I assume it's my "vile" comment you're referring to?

Lichtie · 05/10/2018 12:13

Rudezebra 😂

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 12:16

I genuinely wonder if that means stonewall for example would consider me transphobic.

Yes they would.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 12:17

It wasn't a stupid question at all. I think Posie recognises that gender dysphoria is a thing, it is a medically recognised condition after all. Gender dysphoria does not mean a man can be born in the wrong body nor does it mean they are a woman. It is discomfort with your body alleviated with surgery, hormones and presenting to the worlds according to the stereotypes most associated with the opposite sex. Most people with gender dysphoria in the past have asked people to use certain pronouns and because that's all they were really asking, people were happy to do that. Most of the most prominent TRAs are demanding a hell of a lot more than pronouns.

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 12:18

Well, I disagree, as do thousands of experts.

What "experts" are you thinking of here who think you can be "born in the wrong body"?

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 12:21

As I say Just, happy to chat more on FWR and elaborate on these arguments. Any of the posters on this thread more than welcome to join, obviously.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 12:22

At the risk of sounding Shania Twain lol, I feel like a woman. I just am. If I had male parts, that'd be scary to me.

This argument is such baloney. If you had male parts, you would be a man. There is nothing to suggest that there would still be 'essence of woman' floating around you somewhere.

If I woke up tomorrow morning with a cock and balls then of course I would be a bit discombulated. But seeing as that is literally never going to happen it's a completely moot point.

SpannerInTheWorks · 05/10/2018 12:24

RudeZebra what a shame that you find the sight of women being supportive and positive about one another so risible.

Elephantinacravat · 05/10/2018 12:26

I know RudeZebra women getting ideas above their station eh?

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 12:27

I used to engage on there as was worried about self I'd after seeing concerns on here and wanted to learn more. It become more and more apparent that although some have genuine self id concerns, some are blatantly transphobic.
People bang on about "what peak transfer you?" I'm grateful for the poster I saw say no I have a problem with them all" - it shocked me at first, but it has stuck with me as it was my "peak radfemm" moment and made me slowly back out and away" Grin
Rudezebra - it's like the car crash telly version of MN, maybe why people watch Jezza you just can't tear yourself away from the horror lol

StormTreader · 05/10/2018 12:27

No, I refuse to be bullied into another aggressive JUSTIFY YOURSELF mn trans debate. I wont and I don't have to, to Erish or anyone. None of us do. Go demand your aggressive impossible "justifications" on "some other Feminism thread".
You are the reason we have all of us given up and checked out. You're a wonderful "example" of the "debate" on this site.

VerbeenaBeeks · 05/10/2018 12:31

peak trans not transfer, stupid autocorrect lol

Ereshkigal · 05/10/2018 12:32

Go demand your aggressive impossible "justifications" on "some other Feminism thread".

I'm not "demanding" anything. Just responding to questions from another poster and to indirect and direct smears and rudeness against me and other feminists on MN.

And if people say something untrue I am also going to respond.

AIBU to expect an friendly echo chamber in AIBU? Well yes, obviously you are. Perhaps Site Stuff is the better place to post "technical" questions?

Djnoun · 05/10/2018 12:34

@RudeZebra Grin Grin Grin

@Ereshkigal accusing me of not caring about women because I think it's important to be compassionate on this issue is exactly the kind of bollocks you're getting hidden for.

A possum is the same as an opossum. Cute little bin dwellers Smile
