Steve!

Shall we talk about something else now, then? Seeing as we're all here? We can talk about that thing where women topple the patriarchy and achieve equality and liberation. I used to call it "feminism" but apparently that's not what the word means anymore; not when it's people like me doing it, anyway.

Anyone wanna talk about "that thing"?

Or does anyone have anymore adorable animal pictures??

LEMtheoriginal · 04/10/2018 07:45

More adorable animals? My pleasure

There is nothing wrong with asking for a definition of "woman", Elephant. What there is something wrong with is the repeated tactic of issuing a demand for that definition as a way of derailing what is being said by another poster who dares not to agree with you.

BrownPaperTeddy · 04/10/2018 07:47

@LEMtheoriginal

Those pictures are adorable. Do you run an animal sanctuary?

Wolfiefan · 04/10/2018 07:47

Too cute. More animal pictures please. Shame a thread about hiding a topic has become a discussion of said topic!
So YYY to cute animals please.

LEMtheoriginal · 04/10/2018 07:48

It's not derailing, it's fundamental to the whole argument, that is why people ask for it repeatedly.

If, when talking about women's rights, you can't give a workable non circular definition of woman, that is isn't open to all sorts of interpretation, then you can't even get off the ground.

Gersemi · 04/10/2018 07:53

There's an interesting situation with the occasional thread abusing post surgical trans people, despite the fact that they can't be accused of the crime of having a penis. Because even MN draws the line at those, most get deleted. You'd have to be seriously amnesiac not to know that they happen, but if you dare to refer to them, you get the knee-jerk sneer that you can't produce a link to such a thread.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/10/2018 07:55

Wolfiefan - that's exactly why people want to hide said topic Grin OP didn't even say which board at first but people couldn't help themselves.

Elephantinacravat · 04/10/2018 07:55

We can talk about that thing where women topple the patriarchy and achieve equality and liberation.

Which kind of women are you talking about here? Are you talking about the 'anyone who identifies as a woman' kind of woman'?

Yay for (anyone who says they are) women toppling the patriarchy, yay for equality and liberation for (anyone who says they are) women!!!!!

Gersemi · 04/10/2018 07:57

Well, there you have it. The point that people on this thread are making, in a nutshell. Debate the way we demand, or keep quiet, women, and get back in your place.

LEMtheoriginal · 04/10/2018 08:00

Err yes you are derailing the thread elephant. And yep - its boring!

Define a woman? Define your criteria

Yawn

What, so you don't agree that when discussing women's rights a definition of women is just not needed?Okaaaaaaaayyyy........

I guess when discussing gay rights, no one really needs to know what 'gay' or 'homosexual' actually means, we will just call them 'people' and hope for the best?

If we are talking about the rights of disabled people, do we not actually need to bother defining 'disablity'?

Honestly.....

NotACleverName · 04/10/2018 08:03

Define definition.

It is NO exaggeration to say that ransgenderism if left unchecked, will destroy EVERY right women ever fought for

Catastrophising bullshit.

Elephantinacravat · 04/10/2018 08:03

OK, so people who claim to be feminists and claim to be for women's rights don't think that the word woman needs to be defined because its 'derailing'. 😂

I've seen it all now. I'm out.

butlerswharf · 04/10/2018 08:04

This whole thread has reminded me why I also would like to delete that topic!!

LEMtheoriginal · 04/10/2018 08:04

Could you miss the poibt any more spectacularly than you have.

I hid the topic (as others have) because I DON'T CARE!

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/10/2018 08:05

Beesandfrogs - it most absolutely does get conflated on there, I've seen it and reported several vile posts in the past. There was a whole thread as well that stood "being monitored" for far too long instead of being deleted. Think it went in the end though.

OrchidInTheSun · 04/10/2018 08:07

Dommina - you do know that conflating and benefitting from don't mean the same thing don't you?

Meh. You can all think it's bollocks, that's your right.

Personally I'm still going to be arguing for single sex sports, refuges, scholarships, and spaces, and hoping that someone predatory can't use the system of self-ID to do what they want with women.

That's probably more my thing because of my personal experiences and how my workplace is acting.

One day we'll see how it all turns out, and hand on heart, honestly I hope it's you lot. That'd be great.

At least we can all agree that baby animals are lovely?

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/10/2018 08:10

LEM - Grin but but but what about the sisters, stop throwing them under the bus, you have to want to see the feminism board, stop saying we don't want women to vote anymore! Grin

Blackoutblinds · 04/10/2018 08:16

Lem I hope you feel better soon x

And I agree with some of you re fwr.

RiverTam · 04/10/2018 08:19

I hope that you’re feeling OK, LEM.

Just one point - for all those complaining about feeling ‘attacked’ on FWR, it’s worth pointing out that those doing the actual physical attacking, doxxing, harassing and stalking in real life are TRAs and it’s women and children they are doing this to. Men who have a different point of view get a disappointed sigh. Women who do that have photos of their children posted online. Note that Graham Linehan himself wasn’t got at, they went for his wife.

RiverTam · 04/10/2018 08:19

And that has nothing to do with identity and everything to do with sex.
