...to call themselves a woman. Not when they've committed such an awful, usually male, crime. Why are sane people enabling this shit?
I think I'm ready to get off this planet, if it carries on like this.

That's really interesting, Genevieva, and GarlicGrace. I can see how that would make things difficult. It's like believing in God, isn't it? Only now we're the heretics waiting to be burnt at the stake.

@GarlicGrace Exactly! It is a modern version of pre-Enlightenment thinking in which all other understandings of the nature of reality are rejected. It makes it a crime to say we are our bodies.

It is also a rejection of Atheism and a rejection of monistic religions, such as Islam and the types of Christianity that teach resurrection.

Even the word missgender makes no sense to me. Wouldn’t it have to be misssexing? Can we even have a triple s??

VickyEadie · 01/10/2018 21:10

It's my belief that many would give a burly brick shit house centre forward a run for his money.

Jacinta's not what I'd call feminine, certainly...

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 01/10/2018 21:28

This says it all.
I must save this link for anyone who lives in la la land and doesn't understand what the umbrella term 'trans' actually covers and where self id would take us.

Genevieva · 01/10/2018 21:32

@ScienceIsTruth

In very simple terms mind-body identity theory is split into two broad camps - monistic and dualists.

Dualistic theories include those of Plato and Descartes, as well as religions like Hinduism. All refer to the physical body as one half of the identity, but she refer to the soul and others to the mind. This is the non-physical thinking part of you. Hinduism teach that there is a soul or atman that survives death. Descartes believed that the mind is separate from the body and interacts with it - cogito ergo sum (I think therefore I am). He dissected brains to try to work out how the mind and body interact and came up with the pineal gland, which is right in the middle between the two halves of the brain. We now know a bit about its function - it produces melatonin. There is no evidence that it connects the body to a separate non-physical identity.

Monistic theories include most types of Atheism - there is no life after death because we are our bodies. But also Islam and the types of Christianity that espouse resurrection of the body.

There are obviously arguments for and against all theories about human identity, but at the moment none of them have more legal protection than others. Self-ID will change that.

OlennasWimple · 01/10/2018 21:41

But this never happens!

That's what we're told - we are told that transwomen just want to get on with their lives. And of course the majority do. But there's a sizable chunk (at least the same sized chunk as in the male population) who are a danger to women and girls. And we have spaces where men are not allowed, in order to help keep women and girls safe. Transwomen should not have access to those spaces either.

noeffingidea · 01/10/2018 22:04

Well I think you're all being really mean, you transphobic bigots. Misgendering this stunning brave lady who just wants to get on with her life in peace and live her truth.
Nah, just kidding. He's an arsehole.

MammaSchwifty · 01/10/2018 22:11

I am going to respond to the consultation through the guidance that GarlicGrace posted at 20:47.

anyone who is concerned about the repercussions this absurd self ID proposal will have on them, their daughters, their mothers and their sisters must do the same

Our daughters will not thank us if we had the opportunity to say something, do something, and we quietly passed it by.

Unfortunately that is a very stereotypically feminine trait, one not shared by the vocal lobbies who press for this action. It's time to stand up and shout too, to demand our rights not be eroded, to be heard.

Ikeasucks · 01/10/2018 22:26

Let’s face it, even if they aren’t a danger - women that look like Jacinta accessing female loos, changing rooms, refugees, wards, dorms etc - are going to upset and even intimidate and scare a lot of women, girls and children. I know this will be met with “what about masculine looking women 😡” - “you are being so sexist enforcing your narrow view of how women should look” - from dishonest and manipulative arses.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 01/10/2018 22:35

This is why we all need to fill in the Govt consultation NOW (it closes on 19th), while we still have a chance to stand up to this (lady)bollocks.

(Are we allowed to post the link? Else you can find it on the Fair Play for Women site).

CurbsideProphet · 01/10/2018 22:35

I now believe Margaret Atwood has the ability to see into the future. Men are taking all of the power and we're just sleep walking into it. Soon we'll all be at the Red Centre being schooled in what it means to be a woman. By men.

Fromage · 01/10/2018 22:37

That thing isn't even human. How dare it call itself a woman. It should stay in prison until it dies because it's clearly never not going to be a danger to children.

Genevieva · 01/10/2018 22:59

@ahagwearsapointybonnet please do post it and, if you can't, please PM it to me.

Italiangreyhound · 01/10/2018 23:01

CurbsideProphet "Soon we'll all be at the Red Centre being schooled in what it means to be a woman. By men."

It's already happening. Males are telling us we are doing feminism wrong, we are doing femininity wrong.

This case is shocking and horrible. But there have been lots of other cases of males who identify as women and commit horrible crimes.

The naive trans supporters need to realise that, even if the trans rights movement started with good intentions,

it has now been taken over by TRAs who hate women
and who want to make it easier for paedophiles and other sexual predators to access victims.

newtlover · 01/10/2018 23:23

please everyone, if you have read this, don't just roll your eyes, this is a glimpse into the future---- fill in the government consultation on self ID that is linked to above and/or email your MP- and talk to your friends, neighbours and colleagues

EvePolastri · 01/10/2018 23:24

I opened the link....which bit do we need to submit though?

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 01/10/2018 23:25

www.gov.uk/government/consultations/reform-of-the-gender-recognition-act-2004
Here's the direct link Genevieva, but you can also go via Italian's link posted just above which includes guidance for completing it, so you may find it better!

There's also a different set of guidance here womansplaceuk.org/wpuk-guidance-on-gra-consultation/ which is also good - I had a look at both, added some of my own thoughts and wrote them a load of essays Grin

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 01/10/2018 23:29

Eve - from the link I posted above (gov.uk) you can scroll to the bottom and click "Respond online". Or if you go via Italian's link, click "Consultation Guidance" on the menu at the top and then it should be obvious - there are different buttons for the guidance and for "Do the consultation".

When filling it in, you need to go through all the questions even if you don't answer them all, just keep clicking "Next" till you get to the end, and then you need to Submit it on the last page. You can also save it to come back to later, then they send you an email with a link to reopen it and you can start from where you left off, it's quite easy - just don't forget to submit it eventually. And pass it on!

Genevieva · 01/10/2018 23:38

Thank you! I have put it on my to do list for tomorrow.

Jux · 01/10/2018 23:49

I have filled in the consultation document and sent Garlic's link to a few people with a plea to read the FPFW guidance and to fill it in. Not sure if they will - pretty sure my brother will at least.

I dread the future if this comes into force. I have had no reply from my MP and he's usually pretty good, but not on this issue. My dd has become a product of a generation on this issue Sad, mostly she goes her own way but on this she's woke.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/10/2018 23:52

@Sarahjconnor I'm horrified to hear about you being reported and investigated for hate crime. Was it, by any chance, West Yorks Police that were involved in this?

I understand completely if you'd rather not say Flowers
