If you are an Ocado customer, you should be aware that they consider defining ‘woman’ as an adult human female to be hate speech and not ‘in line with their values’.

They threatened to pull advertising from Primesite unless Primesite took down a billboard with the OED definition of woman on it.

They have received hundreds of complaints from women since, but have refused to apologise.

Just in case you might want to consider not giving your money to a company who consider the word woman to not be in line with their values.

And if you do decide to boycott, tell them why.

The level of internalised misogyny by some on here is depressing. Surely no woman supports the erosion of hard won rights?

PositiveVibez · 29/09/2018 09:32

Great to see companies standing up to hysterical transphobia

Oh FFS 🙄.

How is saying a woman is an adult human female!!

This is beyond fucking ridiculous now.

It has not been scientifically proven that you can be born into the wrong body. That is absolute fucking bollocks.

You can suffer with body dysphoria, but you cannot be 'born into the wrong body'.

It IS NOT transphobic to say woman are adult female humans.

WE ARE!!!!! That is a fact.

Juells · 29/09/2018 09:33

It's the smug virtue-signalling - about the fact that the dictionary definition of woman doesn't align with their values - that's so annoying. They just had to rush in and take a swipe at women and especially at feminists.

Perhaps something to do with the previous accusations that the CEO is a big ole misogynist, do you think? 🤔 That they'll be taking swipes at feminists whenever the opportunity presents itself?

Feminists for the most part = adult human females who do the weekly shopping. Ocado's core market.

OhHolyJesus · 29/09/2018 09:33

I did as hoc orders but saw the other thread and will stop. Back to Amazon (who don't pay enough tax!) for some of the items Ocado previously delivered. Hope someone at Ocado is watching this and rethinks their customer base response.

NoProbLlama78 · 29/09/2018 09:34

I was considering signing up because of the years delivery pass but I won't bother.

It scares me that so many people think transmen are actually men so logically they would serve in a male prison if convicted of a crime.

dworky · 29/09/2018 09:35

"it's well documented that people can be born in the wrong body"
I'd like to see that, could you provide a link?

Molokonono · 29/09/2018 09:37

It scares me that so many people think transmen are actually men so logically they would serve in a male prison if convicted of a crime.

IF the prison service thought trans men were men, they would place them in male prisons. They KNOW they are not, and that they would be at risk, and so keep them in female prisons.

Whilst also letting trans women with penises totally into female prisons.

Utter hypocrisy and virtue signalling bullshit.

Juells · 29/09/2018 09:38

transmen are actually men so logically they would serve in a male prison if convicted of a crime.
Yes, the other side of the horrible coin is that natal women who become transmen will be put in prisons with violent men. Women lose out in every way in this shitty dickfest.

TurfClub · 29/09/2018 09:38

"There's a specific board for this kind of crap. Keep it there."

How would you know, when this appears to be your first post?

Estellesylvia · 29/09/2018 09:39

Bibijayne, instead of ‘TERF community’ it’s fine just to say ‘women standing up for their rights’.

I agree that the levels of internalised misogyny that some women display is quite staggering. The patriarchy has done an amazing number on any woman who actually believes the horrifying misogyny that dictates that defining ‘woman’ is hateful if it upsets a small number of men who wish they were women.

Wait, Ocado said they though ‘woman’ was hate speech??Quick, I must give them my money to show them what a good and obedient handmaiden I am and not like those nasty horrid feminists who won’t shut up and go as they’re told!

Serena Joy, eat your heart out.

eco1636 · 29/09/2018 09:40

A man can live ‘as a’ woman, can’t they? That’s a basic simile.
Poor Ocado, this is a Minefield

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 29/09/2018 09:45

Poor Ocado, my arse. They waded into this with their eyes open.

VillageCats · 29/09/2018 09:46

Only a man could think that defining a woman as an adult female makes you an extreme feminist. 😂

Ocado can do one. I'll save money and stand up for MY values. Women and men are not treated the same. Women are more vulnerable and experience sexual and domestic violence on scales men don't seem to be able to comprehend. It's utter bullshit that could only conceived by someone like, I dunno - a man, to say we are all the same. Tell it to all the women's aid workers. Fuck off Ocado.

babysharksmummy · 29/09/2018 09:48

Women are people who self-identify as women. We are more than our genetic make up.
Lots of GC feminists use language and semantics as smoke and mirrors for their prejudice.
Also prominent is the exaggeration for example a post upthread who said that obviously if you support trans women then you support sexual abuse in prisons. This is quite frankly bullshit and a very small amount of trans women are rapists and abusers. The prison issue is something else entirely and I agree measures need to be taken in the prison system to stop people with penises being able to take advantage of biological females.
As a previous poster said, Ocado did not pressure Primesight into taking it down, this is more exaggerated crap.
However, this billboard was just pure outdated bigotry.

ShovingLeopard · 29/09/2018 09:51

babysharksmummy do you think the concerns are just prejudice, then? That nobody has a legitimate concern about the safety of women and girls and their rights to equality with males?

Molokonono · 29/09/2018 09:53

Women are people who self-identify as women

What is a women though in order for them to self-identify as?

If men can self-identify as women, what is the word that you use for those people that used to be called 'women' before men started self-identifying as such?

How can a doctor tell which women needs a smear and which needs a prostate exam?

Uncreative · 29/09/2018 09:54

I’m pleased to see this on AIBU, one of the most popular boards. Spread the word!

For those who do to wish to see this, just don’t click on the thread or remove it from your view. Easy!

Earlywalker · 29/09/2018 09:54

Also annoyed this is another trans bashing thread Hmm

People cannot be born in the wrong body, they ARE their body.

This attitude is disrespectful imo. It’s like they were saying on this morning, birth defects happen all the time - babies are born with 9 fingers, or clubbed feet or cleft palate etc. The doctors do surgery to fix it and the person is accepted as no less of a person.

To completely dismiss that something may have gone wrong at birth IS bigotry.

Self ID and similar, yes I’ve always been onboard that is a disaster waiting to happen but now I feel the GC has used feminism to disguise that actually they are transphobic. To dismiss that there are real trans people out there suffering is appalling.

People took your debate more seriously when it was regarding prisons, rape centres etc but now it’s clear that the majority of ‘GC’ people just don’t accept that any trans people are real and that’s quite sad.

I’ve always shopped with Ocado and that won’t be changing, to claim that they got rid of a definition as opposed to the bigotry behind it is also ridiculous - how stupid do you think people are.

borntobequiet · 29/09/2018 09:54

Posting this again for those who missed it upthread
terfisaslur.com

ShovingLeopard · 29/09/2018 09:56

Earlywalker why is it 'transbashing* to use the dictionary definition of 'woman'?

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 29/09/2018 09:56

how stupid do you think people are.

Judging by some of the comments on this thread - the one I am quoting from, to take an example - pretty stupid.

CallingDannyBoy · 29/09/2018 09:56

Shovingleopard has already said my view on it. The only things I would add are not only were the rights of women hard fought for they are unfortunately still needed - just read the news. The other thing is that it seems to be an all or nothing approach which doesn’t reflect the nuances in the arguments.

Oh and TERF is an insult and said just to put down an argument without actually addressing it.

Molokonono · 29/09/2018 09:57

This attitude is disrespectful imo. It’s like they were saying on this morning, birth defects happen all the time - babies are born with 9 fingers, or clubbed feet or cleft palate etc. The doctors do surgery to fix it and the person is accepted as no less of a person

People born with no legs are still humans. Humans are still bipeds, even the ones with no legs.

Do you think Pips Bunce takes a 30% reduction in their wages when they 'present' as a woman at work? Lol.

StoorieHoose · 29/09/2018 09:58

I hate all the bullshit ‘born in the wrong body’. Surely if you truly thought that then you would be lining up to remove the one thing that defines your wrong body - not come out with lady dick nonsense

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 29/09/2018 09:58

Hah. Good old Bunce. I used him as an example to transpeak a colleague yesterday.
