To encourage Ocado shoppers to read this

If you are an Ocado customer, you should be aware that they consider defining ‘woman’ as an adult human female to be hate speech and not ‘in line with their values’.

They threatened to pull advertising from Primesite unless Primesite took down a billboard with the OED definition of woman on it.

They have received hundreds of complaints from women since, but have refused to apologise.

Just in case you might want to consider not giving your money to a company who consider the word woman to not be in line with their values.

And if you do decide to boycott, tell them why.

Perhaps it is because I used the colloquial terms - I trained as a nurse so consider myself pretty knowledgeable on human biology, and I can confirm women don’t have dangly bits, and have biological differences which impacts on delivery of various medical interventions.

To have a post deleted for stating the bleeding obvious is, as Posie would say, absurd! Confused

PhilMitchellsBeard · 29/09/2018 16:30

I’ve read the talk guidelines and can’t see which ones I have broken - have asked MNHQ to enlighten me as I am baffled.

Earlywalker · 29/09/2018 16:35

This is all a bit strange.

So you have no problem with ‘genuine’ trans people, only the ‘fake’ trans people, and have the upmost sympathy for those suffering with gender dysphoria, yet you can’t see how the very message this thread is about - May be disrespectful to genuine trans people? And want to boycott a shop because they didn’t agree with it?

I’m against Self ID wholeheartadly but MN just doesn’t seem to be that way anymore, in my eyes it has now become (Barr a few members/posts) bigotry as opposed to genuine concern for those in delicate positions and I’ve lurked on these boards for a long time.

This whole ‘trans women aren’t women’ business is not what we should be fighting for. We should be fighting for regulations around who can search girls, who can go in prisons etc... not erecting billboards to let trans people know they’re not welcome here.

I’m out now.

Lazypoolday · 29/09/2018 16:37

If trans-women say they are females, then I don't understand how saying woman= adult human female would be offensive as it wouldn't exclude them.

If trans women are now females then what word do we have to describe xx chromosome people? Why do other people get to define what we are allowed call ourselves whilst appropriating any definition which refers to only us.

Words have to mean something. Biological sex is still relevant in many circumstances. Why should are certain people so intent on erasing biological females? I don't see the same push going on when it comes to men. I wonder why?

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 29/09/2018 16:39

Facts are neither respectful or disrespectful, they just are

Whizbang · 29/09/2018 16:59

I don’t have an Ocado account to cancel or I would. They’ve lost a potential customer for life though.

My mum was a loyal customer. Not any more... that’s another account and smart pass cancelled.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Lots of love

A pissed off Adult Human Female

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 29/09/2018 17:03

I'm an avid Ocado customer and really fucked off at having to switch back to Tesco's but I am not prepared to let this lie and I'll be letting them know why I'm cancelling my SmartPass.

ScarlettPimpernell123 · 29/09/2018 17:06

It amazes me why some women get so hung up - don't you think you have read too much into this?

nicenewdusters · 29/09/2018 17:08

Earlywalker The poster was about the dictionary definition of a biological female being appropriated by men who now self ID as female. I think that's a fight worth having, to protect your natal sex.

And there are regulations around who can search girls and who can go into prisons. When they are broken, as in the case of Karen White, women suffer. So that's another fight worth having.

I don't want to fight about the statement trans women aren't women. To me it's a statement of biological fact, so no need to fight over it. If a man wants to self ID as a woman that's ok as a gender identity, but he's not a woman.

nicenewdusters · 29/09/2018 17:11

ScarlettPimpernell Read too much into this ? Really ? I hope you have a plate ready.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 29/09/2018 17:13

Actually this is one of the two hills I'm prepared to die on. The authoritarianism around this subject is actually more chilling to me than the fact a bunch of misogynists think they can erase women as a class.

ScarlettPimpernell123 · 29/09/2018 17:14

I have lots of plates

BiggerBoat1 · 29/09/2018 17:16

I couldn't care less about their definition of women. They're only delivering my shopping! I will continue to use them happily.

Molokonono · 29/09/2018 17:19

This whole ‘trans women aren’t women’ business is not what we should be fighting for. We should be fighting for regulations around who can search girls, who can go in prisons etc... not erecting billboards to let trans people know they’re not welcome here.

Lol.

These ARE the regulations that get obliterated by the belief that Trans women ARE women.

nicenewdusters · 29/09/2018 17:20

Many people stopped shopping at Primark when one of their factories collapsed killing men, women and children. This event exposed their use of cheap exploited labour. By hey, they do t-shirts for a £1, happy days.

GladAllOver · 29/09/2018 17:20

They took it down because it implies that trans women aren't women

But they aren't women.
There's nothing wrong at all with being trans. Each to his or her own, get on with it and be proud.
But a man with makeup, and a skirt over his penis is not a woman and never can be.

ToPlanZ · 29/09/2018 17:33

It's not difficult. A woman has xx chromosomes and is born with them.

A transgender woman is someone who is born a man with XY chromosomes but decides for whatever reason to identify as a woman and undergo surgery to have their male genitalia removed.

Intersex people are people with chromosome disorders.

All of the above groups deserve their own rights and protections and not at the expense of the others.

Someone who self IDs as a woman but is genetically a man and who has their genitalia intact is a transvestite.

Given the clear issues around safeguarding, people who self identify but retain their penises should not be allowed in women only spaces, because they are not in any physical or genetic sense a woman. They simply believe they 'feel' like a woman. They have neither the experience of existing in a patriarchy nor the difficulties involved in the true transitioning. They have merely donned the most superficial paraphernalia of feminity.

Ocado have gone out of their way to assist womenphobic men eroding the rights of women by trying to remove our very identity and our language. I've been a customer for years but will cancel my smart pass today. Not only that but I'm sure most post surgery transwomen are sick to death of these militants hijacking their experience to promote misogyny against the sex they've chosen to join.

IFeelSorryForMillie · 29/09/2018 18:05

Why don't you listen to what Transsexuals have to say?
Transsexual voices matter.

RiverTam · 29/09/2018 19:07

Toplan but a transwoman, even one with a GRC, doesn’t have to have their male genitals removed. Which is why I am now of the belief that the entire GRA needs to be repealed.

Chesterwife · 29/09/2018 19:28

Thanks OP. I now love Ocado even more.

Excellent work standing up to the small minority of transphobic idiots.

TerfedOff · 29/09/2018 19:36

@Chesterwife you seem unusual amongst the wives I know in being fully supportive of a man dressing up in an adult nappy if it makes him happy.

Most women I know would advise their friends to run for the hills.

Estellesylvia · 29/09/2018 19:40

Chesterwife, there's a typo in your name, I think you meant Stepfordwife? Cause you'd have to be that brainwashed to actually love an organisation who have made their contempt for women this clear.

Hi ChesterWife

Did you get a chance to watch the link I posted?

ShovingLeopard · 29/09/2018 20:00

Chesterwife so you love a company that colludes in the removal of women's rights?
