Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

I think this is now the third time I've said this but:

These bottles are on special offer in Tesco at the moment. They are half price (50p each as opposed to £1). That is probably why there was a limit in place and why the couple were going from store to store buying so many of them. It's quite common for special offers to have limits to how much you can buy at once. The only issue is that it seems to be an individual store policy (or at least not applied uniformly).

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2018 20:43

Rainbunny the limit is 10. The couple tried to buy more, they were told it was against policy and kicked off.

There's nothing bizarre about it. I think you'll find most supermarkets have similar policies.

With regards to re-selling, I'm assuming they'll sit on the stock for a while until the offer ends.

Rainbunny · 27/09/2018 20:46

Alrighty then, happy to be corrected! It's just not something I have ever encountered in my part of the world (California).

MadMum101 · 27/09/2018 20:51

Yes, Nick, in the video the customer is making the threats after he was shoved over the checkout and the officer pushed him up against a wall then smacked him over the head. I think many people would have lost it at that point. Maybe the eye witness heard him making threats or screaming and swearing at the officer before that?

I don't agree it was a racist incident BTW. Just an officer frustrated at having to interrupt whatever he was doing beforehand to deal with it and it was disproportionate IMO.

WelcomeToShootingStars · 27/09/2018 20:55

Lord alive.

The couple had a trolley full to the brim with this water, easily 70 bottles. The cashier explained they could only buy a maximum of 10 each. They got aggressive with the cashier, shouting and being abusive.

Cashier got store security involved. He asked them to stop filming. Couple went on to say they bought 50 bottles from the Oldham store the day before.

Tesco employee asked them to stop filming. The guy saw a police officer, who was in there buying something to eat, and called him over. Police officer duly responded.

Police officer explained that they couldn't film and that they needed to leave. All remained relatively calm until they were being escorted out of the store and the guy attempted to shake free and formed a fist towards the police officer.

Police officer then attempted to grab and restrain, which is what people are wrongly saying was a punch.

Woman got involved and was behaving hysterically.

Man was successfully restrained after the police officer was struck to the face. He was pushed to the ground and restrained that way.

Meanwhile they attempted to restrain the woman who was kicking and screaming, claiming she was punched but she wasn't.

The whole thing was a disgrace and caused entirely by the behaviour of the couple, nobody else, and the police were entirely right.

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 20:57

MadMum You have watched a heavily edited video which doesn’t show you what happened when the officer pushed him against the wall, And you have a mumsnetter who watched the events but you still think that video is the more accurate version of events?

The officer maybe is frustrated not getting his dinner but how he deals with the incident has nowt to do with that!

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2018 21:00

Couple went on to say they bought 50 bottles from the Oldham store the day before.

Bloody hell they must be thirsty!

Either that or they have their own swimming pool.

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 21:23

there is a big gap before the bit where the officer pushes him against the wall - looks like total 'compo' to me (i'm no expert, but even i understand that film can be cut to make things look different - remember this advert? totally showing my age now!! www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=SMKScopMnKI )

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 21:26

and the officer pushed him up against a wall then smacked him over the head

Except he didn’t smack him over the head.

tillytop · 27/09/2018 21:31

Some people feel rebellious and film a lot, simply because they are against the fact that we are all filmed every single day without our permission, almost everywhere we go. I don't blame the rebels for that, but personally I couldn't be bothered. The cops pushing, swinging punches and man handling the couple were committing common physical assault. They are trained to diffuse, and use restraint techniques. They didn't do their jobs correctly.

MilkyTea20 · 27/09/2018 21:33

What I'd say to anyone like me who is angered at this blatant abuse of state resources by a profit-making organisation is to make sure you don't give them your money.

I certainly won't be back at Tesco unless they apologise for this incident.

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 21:35

tilly You are talking rubbish. The police officer assaulted no one.

And police officers can actually punch, kick, kill as long as it can be justified........

BrownPaperTeddy · 27/09/2018 21:35

At my local Tesco the bulk buying is varied according to how much stock they have in store which I think is fair enough. They won't let you clear the shelf of an item on promotion and leave none for other customers.

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2018 21:38

What I'd say to anyone like me who is angered at this blatant abuse of state resources by a profit-making organisation is to make sure you don't give them your money.

Yeah, except again you haven't read it properly.

The customer called the police over, not the Tesco staff.

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 21:40

Milky So are you angered that the customer wasted police time?

I hated going into supermarkets in uniform to get my dinner. You prayed that you would get in and leave without a shoplifter.

tillytop · 27/09/2018 21:50

Very poor police training, that's evident.

RainbowsArePretty · 27/09/2018 21:51

Such an escalation!

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 21:54

tilly You don’t have a clue about Officer safety training.

neverbelong · 27/09/2018 21:54

op you have posted something and sided with brown Muslims. don't expect the majority of MNers to agree with you. it's a sad fact that this thread will go off on a tangent ranting about religion and culture

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 21:57

Some people feel rebellious and film a lot, simply because they are against the fact that we are all filmed every single day without our permission
Or maybe they're just arse hole trying to get compensation for something that didn't really happen? We will not know unless someone posts an uncut video

donquixotedelamancha · 27/09/2018 21:57

A lot of coppers' wives on MN today

What a bizarre statement. These oddballs had clearly been there some time, refusing the security guard's instructions and then the police officer's instruction. How do you expect the police to arrest someone who is resisting?

Even if there was nothing else in the missing portions (unlikely) they police behaved fine.

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 21:58

op you have posted something and sided with brown Muslims. don't expect the majority of MNers to agree with you. it's a sad fact that this thread will go off on a tangent ranting about religion and culture

No one is ranting about race or culture- it's the behaviour of the individuals that people just aren't buying, got fuck all to do with their religion

BuntyII · 27/09/2018 22:00

Don't be a fanny @neverbelong. The couple acted aggressively and were making an exhibition of themselves. I'm glad the majority of MNers aren't afraid to point this out despite the fact that people like you will cry racism Angry

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 22:00

I'm sure Tescos are quaking in their (very bug) boots @MilkyTea20

They have not done anything wrong, they said they didn't want to sell all their water, completely within their rights, and this couple kicked off

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 22:01
