Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

Op - please think before you post as you’re coming across as very ignorant and frankly quite silly. You posted without even watching the video, you didn’t know the full facts and yet you were quick to judge the police. You sound like someone waiting to jump on the ‘racist’ bandwagon at every opportunity you get. Ridiculous.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2018 18:28

Who on earth buys water online? Amazon sell enough of it!

SausageOnAFork · 27/09/2018 18:31

Offers generally have a maximum purchase amount.
Pure and simple.
The shop have every right to ask them not to buy that amount and in fact to refuse service without any reason.

Atlantea · 27/09/2018 18:32

Hussain is an online retailer.
So many people have jumped to the conclusion that he was going to sell it on. Who on earth buyswateronline?

So people accusing him of reselling assume he has a convenience store. Racist much

Oh op, you're just digging yourself a bigger hole...

MsHopey · 27/09/2018 18:36

I read on a different website link to the same article that Tesco said they were allowed 10 bottles each as that was the maximum.
So they were trying to buy at least more than 20. In the same article Mr Hussain said he'd managed to buy more more than that amount from other Tescos without any problems.
How many did he want?!?
He must have alot more kitchen storage than me!

MaryandMichael · 27/09/2018 18:36

If there's a limit of purchases per customer, display it where the goods and prices are displayed.

If I shopped for a month, I could easily buy that much water for myself. Not flavoured though. Yuk.

MadMum101 · 27/09/2018 18:45

If you watch from point 2.32 in the video to 2.45, it's obvious the policeman lost control of the situation and it got out of hand.

Very badly handled. There is nothing to show that the customer was posing a risk to anyone at that point.

FFS as if Tesco give that much of a shit about their customers that they want everyone to be able to get cut price flavoured water.

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 18:47

There is nothing to show that the customer was posing a risk to anyone at that point.

Because that is not the entire footage. It’s been edited by the man and his wife.

SoupDragon · 27/09/2018 18:49

Nothing is obvious from the footage at all. Other than the fact that the couple are the cause of the entire situation.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/09/2018 18:51

Why was she yelling at the policeman to stop hitting her - when he was just holding her arms

Perhaps because it might sound good on the video they weren't supposed to be making?

Let's just hope someone's got the whole thing on CCTV, bodycam or whatever ... preferably unedited

HusseyGussey · 27/09/2018 18:56

The whole thing lasted a lot longer than shown on the video.
She was wailing at the top of her voice, screaming “stop punching me, I’m tired, I haven’t done anything”, all the while clinging to the till and then the wall, really obstructing the police.

He was roaring at the top of his voice, saying “you’re a dead man, I know your face, you’re a dead man” over and over, to the police man.

They caused all the trouble that happened and were struggling and resisting arrest the entire time, it was all on them.

(I was there).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2018 18:59

That sounds like it was a lot more aggressive and scary than that video shows!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/09/2018 19:00

He was roaring at the top of his voice, saying “you’re a dead man, I know your face, you’re a dead man” over and over, to the police man

Oh dear Hmm

If you were there and saw it, would you say it's safe to assume that was one of the bits edited out?

Thatstheendofmytether · 27/09/2018 19:00

@HusseyGussey

You were there!
Even from the short clip it all seemed very over the top and set up.
No matter what race these people are doesn't take away from the fact they were causing the situation and being utterly ridiculous!

HusseyGussey · 27/09/2018 19:06

Definitely Puzzledandpissedoff, he ended up being carted out by 4 officers (there were 3 vans and two cars outside the store, lights flashing).

He absolutely bellowed it many times, it was pretty frightening.

What I will also say is there were lots of customers in (coming up to 7pm), plenty of Muslims were present and watching, and none of them were claiming what was occurring was racist, everyone was gobsmacked at how loud the couple were and struggling with the police.

yesyesyess · 27/09/2018 19:08

Oh fucking hell. The couple were obnoxious as hell and she was resisting arrest and screaming like a fucking drama queen. Guy was so arrogant, I'd be tempted to slap him too. And stop playing the racist card for fuck sake.

coolmule · 27/09/2018 19:19

Every single time i see someone filling their trolley with one particular item i always think, business person, hotelier, cafe owner etc. The colour of their skin has no bearing on me thinking that, even though half the time i could be wrong. It isn't racist at all to have thought the couple had a business. Most people wouldn’t want all that for themselves. Just because they are a muslim couple shouldn’t make us think any different, it’s irrelevent.

tillytrotter1 · 27/09/2018 19:46

Most of the Asian shops near where we used to live regularly stocked up in supermarkets then added 50-75% to the prices in their corner shops. We once saw three trolley loads of Easter eggs going through, there must have been 80-100, were they all for personal use or for selling at a huge mark-up?

perroy · 27/09/2018 19:50

you’re a dead man, I know your face, you’re a dead man” over and over, to the police man.

This is extremely disturbing.

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 20:14

MadMum Care to comment now that an eyewitness has posted about it?

Ginorchoc · 27/09/2018 20:24

well there you go, wonder if the op will come back.

Re the retail looks like he sells cushion covers on eBay.

I read this and I'm completely baffled by Tesco's policy! I have often bought large quantities of items and I could totally imagine buying 10 bottles of sparkling water to store in my pantry - I drink a lot of water and could easily go through that in a week. What a bizarre place the UK seems to me these days! If they were buying them to sell on at higher prices then 1) wouldn't they be better buying bulk from a large warehouse type place like Costco where it's cheaper and 2) if they were going to sell them on the future potential customers have the ability to get the water from Tesco at the lower price as well.

As for their behaviour I do feel sorry for the police who seemed to be trying to do their jobs.

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2018 20:40

FFS as if Tesco give that much of a shit about their customers that they want everyone to be able to get cut price flavoured water.

Think about that for a second.

Of course Tesco wants its customers to take advantage of cut price offers, or why would they bother with them in the first place?

Imagine the complaints if every time they put something on offer, retailers came and bought it all up before other customers?

They'd be accused to operating like a cash and carry, rather than passing on savings to everyone.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/09/2018 20:42

@HusseyGussey looking at the edited video again, at about 3.03, there seems to be quite a large red smear on the floor

Of course it could be sauce, etc, which someone spilled, but I wondered if you saw anyone in the group with an injury which might have caused this?
