Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

Resisting arrest is a criminal offence. What are police officers supposed to do when idiots are resisting, give them a cup of tea?

They have to use necessary force to restrain suspects and yes that will involve force. What is it with generation anarchy who believe police suspects should just be allowed to walk away if you shout enough abuse at them?

KlutzyDraconequus · 28/09/2018 23:23

The police themselves have forwarded the case to an independent police watchdog to investigate.

So I'd guess it's up to them now.

Its been referred after a complaint, that’s normal. It doesn’t mean the force think there is any excessive force used.

CSIblonde · 29/09/2018 01:01

Why can't they buy a trolley full of water. There are loads of students & working professionals house shares & hasidic Jewish families with 7 or 8 children where I live, so 2 or 3 people buying water & other stuff in bulk is just normal: no-one bat's an eyelid. And that's in both our rather small Asda & the mega huge Tesco.

5Yearplan4000 · 29/09/2018 01:03

Shops can sell what they like to who they like. This couple were in the wrong and total drama queens. They deserved all they got.

MilkyTea20 · 29/09/2018 01:33

It's really no surprise that mixing power hungry police officers with acting as enforcement agents for multi billion pound companies like Tesco and their silly policies will create issues.

I've already signed the petition and written to my MP concerning this issue, and I'd encourage others to do so.

5Yearplan4000 · 29/09/2018 02:00

What a load of rubbish. You’re bandwagon jumping. They were committing a breach of the peace, and refused to leave and assaulted the officers.

Seniorschoolmum · 29/09/2018 02:06

Couple trying to bully shop assistant & shop security by filming them. Store staff stand firm. Police are called over by couple. Police agree that they aren’t allowed to film, that they have to respect restrictions on purchase imposed by the shop, that couple is in the wrong. They refuse to accept that, try to bully police by filming as well, won’t stop and then resist arrest.
Unsurprisingly they get put on the floor and then arrested.

Not racism, the store security man was Asian too, just an arrogant, bullying man, not getting his own way.

Does living in a house share mean you can’t drink tap water?

Anyway, yes bulk buying stuff is fine but sometimes there are restrictions on the amount when it’s on offer. The shop is fully entitled to refuse service to anyone without explanation. You’ll find most supermarkets have a sign to this effect.

Oh good, can you ask your mp if they can arrange for the release of the rest of the video?

Lethaldrizzle · 29/09/2018 07:53

What's wrong with tap water

Do you watch Fox news a lot too?
Did you know the earth is flat?

If you believe edited videos without question then I think you'd enjoy Fox news and being part of the FlatEarth movement.

BrownPaperTeddy · 29/09/2018 08:00

Why can't they buy a trolley full of water.

Because Tesco isn't a cash and carry.
Because any shop has the right to refuse a sale.
Because if they don't enforce bulk buying policy it means no stock left for other customers. I suppose you would be fine if you went in to buy a product to find none on the shelves but another customer with 70 in their trolley?

SnuggyBuggy · 29/09/2018 08:12

I hope they get the book thrown at them. Bloody love that expression

Perfect summing up of the incident! I noticed the main gap in the video was between the police trying to reason with man and attempting to arrest him. I wonder how much time was he spent trying to talk to the couple in a reasonable manner before the arrest decision.

And do they live on bottled water alone and no other groceries?

CecilyP · 29/09/2018 08:46

...for multi billion pound companies like Tesco and their silly policies will create issues.

It is presumably their ‘silly’ policies at enabled hem to become a multi million pound company! If Tesco was selling this water at half price they are probably taking a loss on each bottle but it is worth it to them if customers buy as part of a shop which contains other full priced items. It is also to encourage customers to try the product. Neither work if this couple clear the shelves.

CecilyP · 29/09/2018 08:49

What's wrong with tap water?

You can’t sell it on at twice the price! Well not unless you go to the trouble of bottling it first

Hoppinggreen · 29/09/2018 09:02

Fucks sake
How much water they were attempting to buy and for what purpose is irrelevant.
I’m sure they aren’t the first people who (allegedly) have tried to buy in bulk from a supermarket to sell on.
Any reasonable person who wasn’t a publicity seeking arrogant arsehole would say “oh well, I tried” and leave
They were arrested for being aggressive, filming when asked not to and assaulting a police officer

coolmule · 29/09/2018 09:05

What was all that ridiculous screaming for, and the filming too. it was almost as if the pair of them deliberately set out to cause trouble. Ahh wait......

If you listen to the tape they say that they have done the same thing in loads of other Tesco stores. They’re clearly buying it to sell on, Tesco have twigged and are using their right to limit sales. Nobody has a right to be served, sales in shops she an agreement between a seller and a buyer, not something the seller is required to do.

SnuggyBuggy · 29/09/2018 09:11

I'm guessing the staff must recognise them if they do it all the time

coolmule · 29/09/2018 09:17

If i’d have have gone in a tesco purposely to buy that particular bottled water because it was on offer but i was unable to because some greedy entitled sod had filled their fucking trolley with it i’d be very pissed off. If i complained to Tesco and they acted like they couldn't care less i’d be even more pissed off.

Absolutely Tesco was right to have a limit on what people can buy. Why would they want to lose valued customers because of the actions of one pair of twats. What a loathsome pair, and anyone crying “racist” is pathetic and minimising their disgusting behaviour. Race has fuck all to do with it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/09/2018 09:29

Nasir says on FB that someone (his sister? It's not very clear ...) has had a kidney transplant, presumably to underline the need for all this water

Apparently he wants to "let the truth prevail", but then again he says a lot of things, including "I'm not a retailer" which was contradicted in his own account in the Metro
