Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

RudeZebra seeing as you insist on members of the public explaining how they would restrain? I am an ex store detective and if I had swiped at someone's head I would have been sacked on the spot. The main objective was to diffuse the situation, not exacerbate. My adult DS has SN and lives in supported living. At times the staff need to restrain residents. If any of them took a swipe at the head, they would face disciplinary action. Is that explanation good enough for you and do I now have your permission to continue freely making my own observations and opinions?

MsHopey · 28/09/2018 08:03

It's like they want silent robotic customers going around putting things into thier trollies

I've worked in supermarkets for 7 years. There is nothing worse than seeing someone breaking a rule that you need to correct. Too much water, too much baby formula, the group of 15 year olds with a bottle of whiskey.
It's what makes the adrenaline spike in your system because at least 50% of the incidents where you have to tell a customer they can't have their items ends in you being shouted, sworn and spat at.
It's a regular thing and fills you with dread. The cashier was doing their job, do we want robots? No. Do we want shouting and screaming and hysterical customers because they can't buy 70 bottles of water because it's policy? No.
Staff don't want their job to be more difficult, but they can't risk being disciplined for breaking store policy.
It's not fair to act in such a manner in a public place where people are just trying to do their jobs. Tesco staff and police alike.
Retail is crappy and with shit pay, things like this used to make me scared and anxious to go to work for my NMW and it's just not on.
We can all keep going on about Tesco as a company, but tesco as a company were not affected in this scenario, just the staff who were probably scared and trying to diffuse a situation that they couldn't control.

And if diffusing the situation didnt work what then? Did you have to use restraint at All?(As you clearly have no knowledge of S3 CLA, common law or S117 PACE)

At times the staff need to restrain residents. If any of them took a swipe at the head, they would face disciplinary action.

Completely different type of restraint and you know it.

tillytop · 28/09/2018 08:25

Rude you can carry on trying to make posters explain things to your satisfaction or you can accept that people can voice their own opinions on how the cops behaved?

RudeZebra · 28/09/2018 08:46

Police are useless, untrained lumps nowadays! It's an embarrassment.

You have absolutely no idea on police training.
You have no idea around the laws on restraint/self defence.

And yet you have opined that they're "useless, untrained lumps" You aren't in anyway qualified to question their training.

I'm more than happy for people having opinions on how the police behaved but when they come from such an ignorant position then too right I'm going to challenge. Do you tell teachers how to do their jobs? Doctors? You were a store detective! Grin

Some posters have waited days for a visit when reporting burglaries.Useless! I once made complaints to the authorities about something. They called police and claimed harassment. Instead of checking what the alleged harassment was, they came straight round with harassment notices with "the power of arrest". We showed them copies of the complaints and they left red faced. Useless! Catching paedophile and groomers, Useless! In this video, taking a swipe. Useless! The public are sick and tired of the police being unable to do their jobs properly.

5Yearplan4000 · 28/09/2018 09:02

The police do a great job. Putting ignorant couples like this in their place. On the floor.

tillytop · 28/09/2018 09:14

As long as people keep making excuses for them, the police will continue to not do their jobs properly.

RudeZebra · 28/09/2018 09:27

Yep. Definitely useless. If there's 6 officers and 17 jobs then non urgent jobs will keep getting pushed to the back of the queue. Not quite sure how that makes them useless....

I once made complaints to the authorities about something. They called police and claimed harassment. Instead of checking what the alleged harassment was, they came straight round with harassment notices with "the power of arrest". We showed them copies of the complaints and they left red faced

They investigated a complaint of harassment. Upon seeing further evidence from yourself it was clear that wasn't the case. How is that useless? So you want them to investigate offences unless you're the one being accused? Riiiggghhtt Hmm

Catching paedophile and groomers

So again, how did those in prison on child sex offences get there?

tillytop · 28/09/2018 09:32

Charlie97 · 28/09/2018 09:34

@tillytop you speak for yourself you do not speak for the public!

I have every admiration for the police, I've not had the need to use them much but when I have they've been excellent!

So by all means have YOUR opinion but don't fucking tell me as one of the public what I'm meant to think.

And incidentally I think your post is useless as it just states nonsense.

RudeZebra · 28/09/2018 09:36

You really don't have a clue do you? If, heaven forbid your child goes missing, or you're the victim of a crime, call your local crackhead. I'm sure they'll sort it for you.

As an aside, I've always found it odd that those most vocally against the police are usually the quickest to call.

^^
This!! Especially the bit about first to call!

KlutzyDraconequus · 28/09/2018 09:59

The public are sick and tired of the police being unable to do their jobs properly.

The public shod be sick and tired of the people cutting the police budget.
How can the police do a decent job if the funds aren't there to do it?

tillytop · 28/09/2018 10:44

I had to call them every day when I caught shoplifters. They always came immediately. Whenever I, family or friends have called them for serious matters, they either haven't turned up at all or arrived far too late.

tillytop · 28/09/2018 10:46

Did receive an apology though, for coming to our home with harassment notices without checking the nature/evidence of alleged harassment first.

Charlie97 · 28/09/2018 10:47

@tillytop you seem to use the police a lot!!! Perhaps they know you too well, roll their eyes and move on to a worthy case??

tillytop · 28/09/2018 10:51

Rolled their eyes at a physical assault on a friend and someone trying to open doors in the neighbourhood in the middle of the night? You're right, they probably did!

Charlie97 · 28/09/2018 10:54

No rolled their eyes at you @tillytop!

AhYeahOkayThen · 28/09/2018 11:06

@Atlantea

Excellent clip.

It reminds of the time I was watching one news channel talking about possible police brutality against a disabled man and it really looked like that was the case. But I don't trust the news so I flipped to a different channel and it was the same story except it included the fact that the man was only pretending to be disabled and assaulted the police officer first. Journalism at its finest.

SoupDragon · 28/09/2018 11:12

If you'd actually listened to the video Soup, you'd know they didn't.

I have. He says “Oh, there’s police over there we. Forget security, just call the copper”

SoupDragon · 28/09/2018 11:13

Ignore the stray “we” in there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/09/2018 11:46

Catching paedophile and groomers. Useless

Bearing in mind the town where this happened, I can't help finding that a bit ironic

Back with the point, though, does anyone happen to know if it's likely the police would have been wearing bodycams? Only I don't know how it works and whether they're worn all the time or just when called to certain incidents ...

RudeZebra · 28/09/2018 11:48

Police are useless, untrained lumps nowadays

So why did you call them every day then? Surely with your knowledge of law, procedure and restraint you could have dealt with it yourself?

Rather than watching a thief steal, you could have stopped them and asked them to leave the shop (in your calm and persuasive manner which never involves a use of force!) No need for those "useless untrained lumps at all" Smile

Maybe if the police weren't dealing with calls from over zealous security guards daily, they'd have more time to deal with the groomers and paedophiles you're so desperate for them to catch? You're complaining about something you were directly responsible for
