Obviously don’t know the full facts, but the photos
Show the police being pretty heavy handed.

They look Muslim, so presume don’t drink alcohol, they have regularly buy the water from other branches of Tesco.
This behaviour by the police looks like the sort of treatment meted out by racist officers towards African Americans in the US.

I am disgusted by the thuggish behaviour of the police and I hope Mr. Hussain succeeds in his complaint to the PCC.

They think they're above the law because they're Muslim said one ignorant poster........wow is all I can say to that. Given the way that Muslims are generally treated by some police officers i would say they probably were afraid they'd get treated UNFAIRLY due to the fact that they're Muslim rather than thinking theure above the law.

KatesMott · 27/09/2018 23:43

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I only drink bottled water and I always buy it online as it’s cheaper and I don’t drive so can’t carry it, so here’s one person who buys water online...

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 27/09/2018 23:46

@puzzled. It seems like he will say whatever it takes to point the whole blame on the police. IMO they are both to blame. More so the cops, for how it ended. Dragging the woman around and pressing that mans head on the floor! Just doesn't sit right!

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 27/09/2018 23:47

Im not comfortable with the fact that whenever anyone who is a minority behaves like a dick in public it's immediately flagged as racism when police or whatever give them a response they arent happy with.

My white OH has 'one of those faces '. He looks like a thug (( he isnt. But there it is ))

Over the years he's been arrested for acting suspiciously in the street (( id sent him to tesco at 2am when dd had the wildshites and was burning through all her nappies ))

Accused of trying to break into his own house (( was a bit tipsy and fumbling for his keys on the doorstep )) the police still wouldnt fuck off when I and his sobbing dcs informed them that he did indeed live there. Im 99% sure that would have escalated had I not been there. They had him bent over our gate with his hands behind his back.))

He's frequently stopped and searched, he doesnt drive but does own very expensive bikes which he saves up for over the years. Theyre his only interest in all honesty. He has no criminal record. He's 41 now and isnt likely to get one either.........he does however have a face like a squashed potato and a skinhead (( bald by his early 20s. Needs must. ))

If he was black or Asian he could scream racism. Hell. He could probably sue. 🤷‍♀️

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 23:48

sunset So how would you deal single handedly with a resisting woman?

Madein1995 · 27/09/2018 23:49

Complete non story. My guess is water was on offer, and to stop customer s from buying stupid amounts and to give everyone else a turn, shop limited sale. Happened in my old store with chocolate oranges. Everyone whinged

No one whinged enough to warrant a passing policeman to intervene. I'm sure the police would have been quite content just buying their tea and carrying on with their day, so the customers must have been kicking off

No store HAS to sell a customer anything. No store or employees should put up with customers mouthing off and filming them. Customers should not be so determined that they are right and that the shop should sell them because others do, that the police intervene. People should not continue filming when managers, security and police have asked them not to. People should not assault police.

Ok so it seems like the manager could have used some discretion. At the same time I've seen plenty of customers revert to child like strops and attitude when they can't get their own way for whatever reason. The blame in this case seems to be entirely the couple in question

RudeZebra · 27/09/2018 23:50

It's like they want silent robotic customers going around putting things into thier trollies, swipe your clubcard so they have ALL your details of what u bought, when and how. But in return do not question a thing!!

You can question them all you want, there's no problem with that.

What you can't do is;

Refuse to leave
Assault police officers
Attack staff and throw bottles of water at them.

This isn't particularly tricky. Ive managed to avoid assaulting police officers and members of staff and generally being a dick head in shops all my life. If you can't do that and are "scared" of shopping at Tesco following this incident, perhaps it's for the best if you shop online (for everyone's safety)

By the way, a Clubcard isn't compulsory.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 27/09/2018 23:51

@Nicky. Not like that I can tell you that much. Chased from the till to wall, she didn't even do anything FFS! Apart from video. Oh hang on, that's a crime! She should be lethally injected!!!!!

Madein1995 · 27/09/2018 23:52

Scared of Tesco 🙄 no one makes you go for one. Also they don't want silent customers. It's just there are rules in place, and there are times customers can't get their own way, and in those cases it is not acceptable to kick off. Stores do not have to sell anybody anything. They can refuse any sale

RudeZebra · 27/09/2018 23:53

Given the way that Muslims are generally treated by some police officers i would say they probably were afraid they'd get treated UNFAIRLY due to the fact that they're Muslim rather than thinking theure above the law.

So afraid they elected to get the police involved in a petty argument themselves? Must have been utterly terrified.

MadMum101 · 27/09/2018 23:54

Madein1995 The customer called the policeman over himself to get his take on it. Another one who comments without knowing what they're talking about Hmm.

Nicknacky · 27/09/2018 23:55

sunset You dont have a clue how to restrain people and one person isn't enough to do it safely.

Madein1995 · 27/09/2018 23:56

It's amazing how people think they know the facts. We don't, unless we were in the shop. All any of us know us what's been posted, and that has probably been conveniently edited. We don't know how the female acted, what she says etc. And also as a cashier I would find someone filming me quite intimidating. Who knows what could be put on social media alongside my name. Before anyone knows it could be a big story about how this staff member was racist and let's all shout and swear names etc. Filming people can be intimidating

RudeZebra · 27/09/2018 23:57

@Nicky. Not like that I can tell you that much.

Nope, that's a cop-out. Don't tell us what you wouldn't do, tell us how you would deal single handed with a resisting woman.

Chased from the till to wall, she didn't even do anything FFS! Apart from video. Oh hang on, that's a crime! She should be lethally injected!!!!!

She didn't do anything that you saw,in the heavily edited video. That doesn't mean she didn't do anything.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 27/09/2018 23:59

@rude All of the points you mentioned are not documented. It is what has been said by others. I am going by the video footage. I did not see anyone throwing bottles. If that was the case wouldn't they have evacuated the store. Innocent bystanders being attacked and all that.

Don't tell me that this was the only outcome possible from this situation? Because it wasn't!!! People do not have to be treated like this for being a 'bit of a dick'

Btw! Tesco clubcard has sent me some online vouchers. Perhaps I will let them record my purchases online for now..

tillytop · 28/09/2018 00:00

Filming can be intimidating Grin You're being filmed every day, without your permission. CCTV.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/09/2018 00:06

Its black and white, they were breaking the law. Why is this news!
... oh wait.

EarlyModernParent · 28/09/2018 00:08

They can't have been genuinely surprised, can they? Putting a per transaction limit on special offer items is standard practice. It applies all the time to formula baby milk. So the situation seems artificial. And there is a crucial bit missing from the footage of the man being grappled with and arrested.

RudeZebra · 28/09/2018 00:09

I am going by the video footage. I did not see anyone throwing bottles

Heavily edited footage. Are you not asking why they aren't showing the full clip?

If that was the case wouldn't they have evacuated the store. Innocent bystanders being attacked and all that

You know, I was prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt for just being a run of the mill police hater, but you really don't have a clue do you? Evacuate the store? That's probably one of the stupidest comments I've ever read on mumsnet. Bravo! Flowers

Don't tell me that this was the only outcome possible from this situation? Because it wasn't!!!

You're right. The male could have stopped
recording when asked. He could have left the store when asked. He did neither of these things. The pair were both arrested (and charged I believe) for assaulting officers. How would you have dealt with It?

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 28/09/2018 00:12

Trust me. They have been evacuating my local Tesco for the most (imo) small reasons!!!

How bout the dopey cop threaten to arrest him for a Public Behaviour disorder thingy. No mention of arrest. No let's just force this guy out the shop and save me the paperwork!!! Nonce.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2018 00:12

So who was filming?

That’s pretty heavily edited isn’t it. I think nobody covers themselves in glory. It it seems that the victims are very aware of the cameras and seem to be acting up to them.

RudeZebra · 28/09/2018 00:14

Just in case you missed it Sunset

How would you deal with a woman resisting, single handed?

I'm glad Tilly is back to update us with her qualifications/experience in this field, and hopefully explain her assault claims.

KeiTeNgeNge · 28/09/2018 00:16

that heavily edited video is amazing - pure work of fiction. I’d be willing to bet the cctv and the officers bodycam show a very different story.

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 28/09/2018 00:17

I aint a cop! So stop grilling me. The policeman in question has supposedly had hours of training. Months of courses to attend. That looked obtuse and very unprofessional of him. Was she a danger to the public? Oh yes... she was. She had WMD-flavoured Volvic water bottles!!!

Load of twaddle.

MadMum101 · 28/09/2018 00:20

Was it 'edited' and or did they just stop filming when talking to the police officer? The couple were obviously not filming when they were being held down so was someone else with them or was it a member of the public? If they edited it themselves, they would surely have removed the 'dead man' threats no?

The store should have the full cctv anyway.
