Visiting my nephew and want to buy him a gift. Anything around £50. He loves football but has tonnes of football memorabilia, obsessed with fortnite, loves maths, super brainy etc.

What is a safe bet for a gift for an 11 year old lad? Haven't seen him in a while as we live so far away so not sure what to get him! Help Confused

My 11 year old boy asked me last night if he can have some hexbugs for christmas (theres actual habitats and things for about 40-50) as they have some as school and "they're so cool!"

WeeklyWarrior · 27/09/2018 14:09

Thanks pretend - googling now!

If he loves fortnite then v-bucks would probably go down really well.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 27/09/2018 14:12

Not £50, but I have you thought about Rubix type cubes? My 11year old who is also super bright and loves maths, loves these. Actually there's a set on amazon for about £30 which has several different types/shapes. I haven't got a clue about them but solving them is based on algorithms.

MintChocAddict · 27/09/2018 14:12

How about some money towards an actual present and the rest as a money gift for vbucks (Fortnite currency).
Most of the 11 year olds I know save pocket money for vbucks so that would be well received I think.

FishesThatFly · 27/09/2018 14:13

I was going to say v-bucks too. Or the gift card relating to his games console so he can use it on other games too.

WeeklyWarrior · 27/09/2018 14:14

V bucks? Googling now... I feel so old!

Fortnight merch or sportswear? That's all my 11yo is interested in

He had Hexbugs about 5 years ago so if maybe run that past his mum or dad

WeeklyWarrior · 27/09/2018 14:16

I was thinking some long range walkie talkies but no idea if that's cool enough for an 11 year old!

OP posts:
Shiner · 27/09/2018 14:20

Walkie talkies, or Laser-X, or any book by Derek Landy?

WasabiSpring · 27/09/2018 14:25

Have you considered asking him or his parents what he would like?

It might be worth checking regarding anything like V-Bucks as some parents might not like them getting a large amount of them. Fortnite can be a touch addictive and some parents do spend a lot of time trying to limit the amount their child uses it.

FishesThatFly · 27/09/2018 14:25

My 11 yr old wouldn't bother with walky talky.... he has a phone....

WeeklyWarrior · 27/09/2018 14:26

He doesn't have a phone. He's not allowed until he's 13.

WeeklyWarrior · 27/09/2018 14:27

Don't think I'll be getting v bucks. Would rather give him money.

I asked his mum and she said 'oh don't be silly you don't have to buy them anything' in the nonchalant way she always does Smile we have already bought their daughter a tonne of stationary so can't come empty handed re nephew!

Mine would want clothing.... but it would need to be the "right" clothing and money for his ps4.

He certainly wouldn't want any toys i.e lego, action figures etc.

My 15yr old however would love books, lego etc

PedunculatedPolp · 27/09/2018 14:28

Board game "Settlers of Catan.

JuicyLucy72 · 27/09/2018 14:30

Fifa 19 would be good if he has a games console and loves football it's out tomorrow and cost around £45.

Whatsthisbear · 27/09/2018 14:32

Does he like Lego? Mine was Lego mad

TheKitchenWitch · 27/09/2018 14:33

Guiness Book of World Records always goes down well here. And yes, Rubik’s cube too.

PiggeryPorcombe · 27/09/2018 14:33

For £50 my ds (11) would want Robux, V bucks, sportswear, trainers, maybe a Technic Lego set. He had hex bugs years ago so wouldn’t be too thrilled with those. Ditto walkie talkies.

I’ve seen Fortnite Monopoly advertised? Might be worth a look.

ArbitersCarbiters · 27/09/2018 14:35

Why not give him the cash in a card, and he can then spend it however he wants (which his parents can always weigh in on)? I always do this for birthdays/gifts for children, and haven’t had a single complaint so far (though accept it may not necessarily be the ‘done’ thing in English/British culture ...) 😁

BigusBumus · 27/09/2018 14:45

Fifa19 for absolute definite on Xbox or PS4 or whatever console he has. You will be considered the best aunt EVER.

PiggeryPorcombe · 27/09/2018 14:56

Yy to Fifa19.

GoldenBuns · 27/09/2018 15:01

I would probably give the cash as an Amazon voucher. For £50, you can one in a nice presentation box. There is always something my ds wants that is fecking extortionate out of his reach financially. You can pretty much buy everything on Amazon these days.

intuition · 27/09/2018 15:03

A decent football always goes down well with my boys. £20-30 from a sports shop
