Mine wants to get a pet snake. I'm really not keen on the idea, but they don't see a problem as it'll be in their room. Thoughts please.

Why is everyone saying NO! to a pet?

Because pets generally affect the entire household. Furry animals can cause problems with folk who have allergies, for example. Snakes and other reptiles need vivariums, which use up a fair bit of electricity. Dogs need walking and letting out to the toilet...

If an adult wants a pet, they can get their own place and have as many pets as they'd like!

I would not allow any new pets. The day the rabbits left was a red letter day for me. If I die they can get a dog but not otherwise. As I always say work hard, get a high paid job and you will be able to afford your place with any animals you like.

No, and I wouldn't allow any pets for that matter. I don't want to share my home with any animals, reptiles or birds. If that makes me an animal hater so be it Grin. My DH & DS have said they would quite like a dog but I know I would be expected to get involved in caring for it and that is just not fair for me or the dog.

And I just don't get this 'they are an adult at 18 and can do what they want', any reasonable young person would be prepared to accept 'house rules', if they don't like the rules, move out.
