Friend who has twins the same age as my DS (2) suggested the other day that we go to a soft play area on Monday to catch up/so the boys can tire each other a bit. I said yes, and suggested that afterwards she and the twins come to my house for lunch afterwards. All is agreed, looking forward to it etc etc.

She has now messaged me saying this 'Hi Lexi727, looking forward to seeing you at softplay on Monday. Since you have suggested that the boys and I come over to yours afterwards anyway, would it be okay if I just dropped them at yours afterwards and then got all my housework/shopping done and then picked them up later in the day?' Then went on to send a second message about 10 mins later just saying how hard it is to cope with twins and get everything done round the house.

I haven't replied yet, but am I right in saying wtf? I also have a 6 week old DD, and I'm not sure if I can control 3 rowdy two year olds?!?! I invited them under the assumption she would be there too, and it was very clear when I suggested it that she was to come as well. I even said I would get in some tetley tea bags for her! (She only likes tetley tea, weird but whatever)

AIBU to say fuck no, or should I just be a good friend and allow her to get her cleaning done whilst I try and entertain three 2 year olds as well as look after DD?

I don't like her tone in that message, the implication being your husband does his bit so you need to help her. Up to now I would've given the benefit of the doubt. Tell to take the boys to the park and hire a cleaner with the money she would've spent on soft play

Pumpkintopf · 22/09/2018 15:56

That sounds v passive aggressive to me!

SparkyBlue · 22/09/2018 15:56

She has actually done you a favour. You now know exactly what she is like. I'd steer clear of her from now on to be honest.

TwoOddSocks · 22/09/2018 15:56

At first I thought she was struggling rather than cheeky but the reply was cheeky as F*. A six week old still needs feeding and changing and rocking etc etc and her implying you have it easy is rude. It's also much easier to manage your own 2 year olds than someone else's. YADNBU.

MrsFezziwig · 22/09/2018 15:56

No BobLemon, the correct thing to do would have been for the friend to turn up for the soft play and lunch, and then bring up the idea of them taking turns to reciprocate childcare on a SEPARATE occasion, not to try and change the original arrangement to something only beneficial to herself.

Surely you can see the difference between a sociable lunch for a catch-up with your friend & kids, as opposed to looking after 4 kids, two of whom are not your own?

GlitteryFluff · 22/09/2018 15:56

Well done for saying no. I know it can be hard to stand up for yourself sometimes but good for you. Complete CF she is.

BewareOfDragons · 22/09/2018 15:57

She's a CF.

She'll be soft play that same day with another parent victim... she's fishing for someone else to watch her children and then take them home with her. You'd have been sorting out the 3 at soft play by yourself, no doubt, while she offered to hold your baby when they needed sorting.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 22/09/2018 15:57

I really can’t believe the cheek on her! I don’t comment much on things anymore but her response has just floored me! I bet if you had said yes, you wouldn’t have seen her for hours!!!

Pumpkintopf · 22/09/2018 15:58

If anything she should be offering to take your older dc off your hands so you can get some rest - you have a six week old ffs!!!

FarrahMoan · 22/09/2018 15:58

Unbelievable CFery

Surely she's got more chances of getting her housework done if she's worn the twins out at soft play

lexi727 · 22/09/2018 15:58

I'm just not going to engage any further! She's always been quirky but I just accepted it as she has been a good friend to me but I think she's lost the plot 😂 bless her.

Annoying though as she's a SAHM too and is nearly always available for a play date, and DS always ends up knackered after we've been out together. I now have a vacancy for a friend with wild twins who will tire my DS out (he will return the favour) any takers?

Ha. Where do you live??

InstagramPork · 22/09/2018 16:00

WHATTT Shock I was thinking at first she was just struggling a bit but that reply is so fucking cheeky!
No. No. And no again!

Gemini69 · 22/09/2018 16:01

Good for you OP.. stand your ground Flowers

Butterflycookie · 22/09/2018 16:01

I wouldn’t be friends with this person. Although when you said she’s been a good friend to you, maybe she thinks you owe her? Confused

lexi727 · 22/09/2018 16:02

@coffeeneeded Essex way!

Just read the text exchange. I believe the expression is ROFL?

MissEliza · 22/09/2018 16:03

Well done Op!

MrsFezziwig · 22/09/2018 16:03

And she is BVU for calling you “hun”

another20 · 22/09/2018 16:03

Yep - selfish and exploitative - she has no boundaries - wont take 'No" for an answer - but has to still put a dig in. Bin her!

sonjadog · 22/09/2018 16:03

Now you know what she's like, you will be prepared for future requests.

Prometheus · 22/09/2018 16:03

Totally missing the point but....42 unread messages!!!!! Respect.

lexi727 · 22/09/2018 16:04

@Butterflycookie I have returned the good friend favour tbh! I do think this might be a DH problem as he cheated on her whilst she was pregnant (!!!) but she took him back. He's now as much of an arse as before, but she thinks because he isn't cheating on her that it's okay.

I'm wondering if she's asking because before DD came along, I took another friends DS for the day a couple of times when she needed it (but that was always reciprocated)

BasicUsername · 22/09/2018 16:07

"You want 3 kids so this would be good practice"

My god, she is beyond cheeky! Cheekiest of CFers.

lexi727 · 22/09/2018 16:07

@Prometheus haha - it's the curse of the pointless group chats! Am I the only person in the world who despises them?
