Shitty homemade Christmas Gifts

I’m really loving the homemade Christmas gifts thread, and am watching it for inspiration. Can we start one for ideas for things to avoid - ie glitter-encrusted his&hers champagne flutes.

But according to my daughter one teacher took a bite and then threw it away.

I bet she took a bite to be polite and then threw it away somewhere later. Maybe she's on a diet, has intolerances, hates cake etc? Maybe the daughter kept asking her to try it?

I suspect I have given some awful home made (not hand crafted) rubbish in the past. I think I sort of knew how awful it was but had spent so long making it, I overlooked that. 🤣

I apologise unreservedly! I'll try not to do it again.

However, I still maintain, a rubbish home made gift that is made with love, is much better than a rush around a pound shop*, grab whatever is left gift.

Hmm. I should put that on a sparkly bauble. I know someone who would love that...

*nothing wrong with pound shop gifts if they have bee carefully chosen.

Just read about toilet roll tube nativities. That's DS2 and 3 sorted for craft in the holidays

Where is the thread for good hand crafted gifts?

Sparkingfizzing · 04/11/2018 15:25

@PiperPublickOccurrences what wool are you using? I'm always concerned about proper wool being itchy or smelling a bit sleepy!

rainbowquack · 04/11/2018 15:45

@IggyAce how did you get them out of the baked bean tin? I love them!

IggyAce · 04/11/2018 16:36

@rainbowquack, I lined the tin with baking paper and just wiggled them out. It was a while ago that I did them but don’t remember having an issue getting them out.

Homemade gifts ill be doing this year are
Suede and faux fur slippers for my mother.
And the usual handmade food hamper which usually includes a bourbon and honey ham joint, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate truffles etc
Possibly a giant knitted throw for my sister, still debating this. And was also going to make my dcs some comfy pjs for xmas eve.
My inlaws are the sort of people who request expensive presents like estee lauder makeup etc so they dont really appreaciate handmade stuff.

sinclaire · 04/11/2018 17:00

It really depends on the personmaking it though does it not? I love my mums knitting, my aunts patchwork crafts and my friends homemade skin balms and jams. All so much nicer than shop bought but not so keen on glitter glasses, scrabble tile pictures, diy cake mixes etc.

I would say that if you have a skill and are able to make lovely truffles or chutneys or any other craft then go for it any decent person will appreciate your effort and enjoy them!

I am currently designing Raven accessories for a loved one after today's Argos trip.

Eatmycheese · 04/11/2018 18:35

@custardy people are putting these in their shopping carts 😱

MrsRespoDad · 04/11/2018 23:32

My DH once gave me the clap for Christmas.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/11/2018 23:39

To my shame, I once crocheted a shopping bag for my inlaws.

Genuinely thought they'd like it.

What was I thinking?

Onemorefireball · 04/11/2018 23:47

I'd love it if someone made me a bean can Christmas cake. I love Christmas cake!

Reaa · 05/11/2018 00:04

My mum can't cook so anything she makes is a waste.
