to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out

DFiL voted Leave. He's not thick and he had his reasons but, to be frank, he's 80 and not going to have to live with the consequences long term. Especially, if the NHS don't manage to stockpile his multiple medications in the event of a No Deal.

AIBU to think we all need to kick up an almighty stink to ensure that our Government makes a deal that will protect our children's futures - even if that means remaining. Jacob Rees Mogg and his ERG buddies predict it could be 50 years for the UK to see the benefits of leaving the EU. That's too late for my DD.

Austerity has damaged enough lives, we can't let Brexit do more harm. It's no good shrugging and saying "Leave won". If this isn't sorted out there will be no winners.

If we walk away with no deal, then there will have to be a hard border in Ireland - there can be no other choice.

Doesn't that breach the Belfast Agreement ? What would happen then ?

Latest news appears to be they are holding the door open

And this is what I cannot understand about a lot of remainers, you are more than happy to stay in place that so obviously and in your own words don’t want the U.K. to stay

10degreestostarboard · 20/09/2018 16:48

These threads always go the same way - repeated attempts at ‘one up womanship’ of trying to outdo each other as to just how bad things will be. It’s hysterical nonsense and unless you have a crystal ball you are talking tripe.

Recession? I raise you riots in the streets. Riots on the streets? I raise you poor little Timothy not get free mobile roaming in the south of France during his gap yah.

We had a vote - you failed to convince. So how about you get onboard with the rest of the country?

Well there is really a q. And after the above there are no plans for anymore ie we can't just run squealing back elbowing our way to the plum position we already have.

Helmetbymidnight · 20/09/2018 16:52

I would love to hear just one thing that Leavers think will be better after we leave

I think they think we’re getting a super trade deal with Australia and America. Much better than with the Eu, apparently, because er because yeah. We’re suddenly going to start manufacturing things the world wants. We couldn’t do that in the Eu apparently. We are going to lose financial services and foreign companies but they don’t care.

Have I got that right brexiteers?

No - none of the pro-Remain posters who are trying to have a serious debate on this thread have used this language, about the EU or about leave voters

NameChanger22 Thu 20-Sep-18 14:24:51

It was mostly old, stupid, ignorant, racist, nasty, right wing types that voted leave. Generally speaking. There are always exceptions.

And this is why any attempts to engage are usually met with a "stoney silence."

P3onyPenny · 20/09/2018 16:53

So explain why it's hysterical nonsense and tripe.

DGRossetti · 20/09/2018 16:55

They do what the UK to stay. Just not "at any price". The whole point of an organisation like the EU is the "U" bit. No single member - not even the UK - is bigger than the whole.

A lot of Brexiters have imagined the EU as some sort of USA with a beret and accent. It's not. Member states are sovereign countries and quite free to leave if they want.

The UK could have left anytime, if it was prepared to lose all the perks of EU membership. The fact it wasn't, and is trying to hang onto them with an agreement should have alerted some Leavers that all was not as it had been sold. Even now, some fail to grasp that it's the UKs place to put forward a proposal - not the EUs.

That's not a queue, it's a list of countries who would like to join but don't yet meet the criteria.

‘Soveriegn country...Free to leave if they want...’

Pull the other one it’s got bells on.

10degreestostarboard · 20/09/2018 16:58

P3ony

It’s hysterical tripe because you don’t a crystal ball.

Do you?

LittleLionMansMummy · 20/09/2018 16:59

Yes, but 'get on board' what exactly? Not even the ruling Tories can agree on that. Which is rather the point of the op. What is it that we're all supposed to get on board with 'the rest of the country' about? It's disingenuous to suggest that Remainers are a small, insignificant bunch of moaners who are out of step with the rest of the country. Everyone is shouting, loud and clear "What the fuck are your plans if you, the government, cannot agree terms, among yourselves, let alone 27 other countries?"

HateIsNotGood · 20/09/2018 17:02

I would be happy to discuss why I am against FOM if any Remainers would be able to do so without accusing me of being racist, anti-Immigration, right wing and/or 'thick and stupid'.

Because I am none of those things.

DGRossetti · 20/09/2018 17:02

Dgrossetti ‘Soveriegn country...Free to leave if they want...’ Pull the other one it’s got bells on.

But. We. Are. Leaving. As some on this thread have politely reminded us.

So what was wrong in what I wrote ?

So looking ahead and seeing the very realistic risks which are based on facts and being worried is gazing into a crystal ball.

If you are sure none of the very realistic negatives will happen explain why. I really don't enjoy the -worry- crystal ball gazing.

CiderBrains · 20/09/2018 17:04

Genuine question; can someone please list the benefits of being in the EU?

10degreestostarboard · 20/09/2018 17:04

Because - if you took off your eu loving bias for just 2 minutes - you would understand that they are making it as politically difficult as they can for us. To show an example to the others.

Hazardswan · 20/09/2018 17:05

Your children won't forgive if you don't....

Stop Brexit if supplies of vital medication can't be guaranteed.

chillpizza · 20/09/2018 17:06

What most seem concerned about is data roaming, not needing visas to travel, studying aboard with no restrictions etc for their children.

None of that actually bothers me.

Then it’s nhs staff, which we should already be training but we are not which is completely stupid.

P3onyPenny · 20/09/2018 17:06

Um no they're not. We're making it difficult because we want the benefits we had in the EU without being in it. You don't get to have your cake and eat it.

LittleLionMansMummy · 20/09/2018 17:07

All leavers can't want the same thing because the thing was never explained

It was. They either just didn't listen/ hear it or else they wilfully ignored the experts, who warned of the various permutations and their ramifications.

ilovemylurcher · 20/09/2018 17:08

Was it not always going to be the case that the EU would make it difficult.? Didn't leavers consider this?
Although I am not parrticularly fond of the EU as an institution (it does seem undemocratic and probably does interfere with sovereignty) I would rather be part of it if it ensures our future economic stability.

LucyMorningStar · 20/09/2018 17:08

Omg, are people still going on about it? Like it or not, it's happening, just get over it already. Adapt to change or something.... Honestly it's like listening to a broken record!
