to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out

DFiL voted Leave. He's not thick and he had his reasons but, to be frank, he's 80 and not going to have to live with the consequences long term. Especially, if the NHS don't manage to stockpile his multiple medications in the event of a No Deal.

AIBU to think we all need to kick up an almighty stink to ensure that our Government makes a deal that will protect our children's futures - even if that means remaining. Jacob Rees Mogg and his ERG buddies predict it could be 50 years for the UK to see the benefits of leaving the EU. That's too late for my DD.

Austerity has damaged enough lives, we can't let Brexit do more harm. It's no good shrugging and saying "Leave won". If this isn't sorted out there will be no winners.

Sorry I've read 20 pages out of 28 pages and read every post as still trying to get my head around what is going on.

Apologise if anyone just answered on the missing 10 pages I've not yet read, but the question that irks me the most too is what happens between March 30th and when all these wonderful deals fall into our open arms? Deals with Africa?? Better than current deals with Europe?? Good luck with that one.

I too feel sad and embarrassed to be British now and consider myself definitely to be both British and European. I love Europe, love all the different people and cultures. I love the Americans too but for very different reasons. For those saying just go and live in Europe if you like it so much, I really love my own country too but cannot imagine what is is going to be reduced to over the coming years if this dreadful Brexshit goes ahead.

I will be at the march on Oct 20th - Wolfie Smith eat your heart out.

Did anyone just see Alistair Campbell and Cathy Newman head to head on ch4 news?!

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 20:14

Oh I know this

sausage lover is an insult from a Muslim to a non-Muslim, or say a Muslim was dating a non-Muslim and another Muslim disapproved they call them a sausage lover

Sort of means your dirty I think.

At least it does round my way.

Buteo · 21/09/2018 20:34

Hate I take it you didn’t read the Tusk statement?

May said: Yesterday Donald Tusk said our proposals would undermine the single market. He didn’t explain how in any detail or make any counter-proposal. So we are at an impasse.

Tusk response: We studied the Chequers proposals in all seriousness. The results of our analysis have been known to the British side in every detail for many weeks.

I’d say that was a careful rebuttal to May’s claims.

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 20:38

Ahhhh you are a Londoner! Your europhilic sausage loving verbiage makes much more sense now!

I live in the shires and London, as they say, is another country

God 'the shires'.

Is that like where Hot Fuzz is set and they all run around madly talking about the greater good? Whilst killing people for no apparent reason whilst worshipping some weird cult?

See I'm educated via stereotypes, over what it's like in the Shires. I knows what you people are like.

I live in the North. We are 'ard here. You don't wanna mess with us.

We all have dodgy thick accents that need subtitles for US TV audiences. We call bread rolls funny names. We live in cardboard boxes or terrace houses. Depending on whether you are working class or really working class. It's permanently Corrie on the tv on repeat. Or Peter Kaye on Bank Holidays. Every middle aged woman is a Maxine Peake clone.

Where I live is also a pizza delivery free area. So we are REALLY backward.

But sausages? They are pretty great. I'm none discrimatory. Locally produced ones or furreign ones are both damn fine.

Yep, them furreign ones have made it to such exotic places as 'Tesco', 'Sainsburys' or check this out 'Morrisons' this far out.

They even sell them in St Helens. Yes St Helens! Not sure about Wigan though. I think they are still obsessed with pies and are a bit weird there.

Isn't it fucking A-M-A-Z-I-N-G?

Dear Lord.

Moussemoose · 21/09/2018 20:46

Pie eaters in Wigan.

What do you call 4 pies on a stick in Wigan.
A kebab.

I love sausage - have I mentioned that before?

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 20:58

Nothing wrong with Wigan. Much.

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 21:01

@RTB
Is Pilkingtons (NSG) looking like leaving St Helens (assuming you are somewhere near there)?

Moussemoose · 21/09/2018 21:03

Best pies I ever had came from Wigan.

I still like a sausage though.

HurricaneFloss · 21/09/2018 21:06

Did anyone just see Alistair Campbell and Cathy Newman head to head on ch4 news?

👍 oh yes - that is what I meant in my OP about kicking up a stink!

Don't know. Wouldn't surprise me. They might need a site in the EU now...

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 21:57

Hope every is paying attention. This tiny article is worth making sure you notice cos Labour clearly were asleep at the wheel on this one.

Sajid Javid talking about suspension of environmental regulations, workers rights and auto enrolment in workplace pensions in the event of no deal.

Those of you in The Shires might want to think about what removing environmental regulations might include, even if you are quite happy for children to be sent back down the mines so they can afford to retire.

to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out
1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 22:03

@RTB
They are Japanese owned (Nippon State Glass) and have plants all over the world so I was just curious as you seem to be 'that neck of the woods'.

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 22:12

Boo I was trying to engage with leavers despite suggestions I shouldn't.

Then they all disappeared.

Buteo · 21/09/2018 22:45

End of shift.

Or a pause for (yet another) name change.

vandrew4 · 21/09/2018 22:47

*Boo I was trying to engage with leavers despite suggestions I shouldn't.

we got bored with the ridiculous hysteria. see you in 12 months when everything's fine

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 22:58

@vandrew4 could your read this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3370225-I-know-Im-annoying-but and tell us again how everything is going to be fine?

Unless you think it's going to be fine because brexit will be canceled.

vandrew4 · 21/09/2018 22:59

cancelled, not canceled ( but what do i know as a thick leaver, eh?)

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 23:01

vandrew4 i never called you thick.

JacquesHammer · 22/09/2018 08:15

cancelled, not canceled ( but what do i know as a thick leaver, eh?)

Actually both are correct. Whilst the former is more usual in British English and the latter in American English, neither spelling is incorrect.

frumpety · 22/09/2018 08:47

Imagine you have decided that you don't like something about your body, physically it doesn't effect your day to day life, it doesn't cause pain or discomfort, but you simply do not like it. You find a surgeon who will operate. At the initial consultation they tell you that they can fix it for you , that the surgery is practically risk free and your recovery will be a few days. You decide to go ahead with the surgery as now you have been given a solution to what you think is a problem.
The day of surgery arrives, the consultant visits you and explains that actually the surgery carries a much greater % of risk than initially explained, there is a potential for life changing disfigurement and the recovery time will be months.
What do you do? carry on with the surgery on that day ? or ask for more time to think about it and explore other options ?
^ Brexit^ as it is now Smile

vandrew4 · 22/09/2018 10:22

frumpety that analogy makes no sense; people voted to leave because they felt it was affecting them negatively being in the EU.
they didn't vote leave for no reason

jasjas1973 · 22/09/2018 10:44

@vandrew4

...and if these reasons are wrong? what then? did you read the newspaper article? how do feel about a cash bonus (bearing in mind we can't afford to recruit enough nurses or repair the roads) removal of employment rights, environmental protection?
Let them eat cake!

This is from leave members of the government, not hysterical warnings from Gina Millar.

To the OP, the first thing my daughter is doing after getting her health related degree is to take her Aussie citizenship and get the heck out of this embarrassment of a country.
I'll be taking my Irish citizenship via my Nan and buying a nice place nr Figeac.
Two 40% payers lost to the UK, plus a much needed health worker.

1tisILeClerc · 22/09/2018 10:47

{they didn't vote leave for no reason}
The majority voted leave without having seriously considered the implications of leaving. Had it been explained that to leave will incur at least 10% increase in cost of all goods, sharp rise in unemployment and many EU based employers relocating to the EU to maintain economic viability.
IF you took all these into account and still voted leave then, fine, leave then.

frumpety · 22/09/2018 11:51

Vandrew4 people voted to leave the EU because they considered it to be a cause of a variety of problems. That's fair enough, that's what they believed then. What wasn't fully explained were the consequences of leaving. Now the consequences are becoming clearer , shouldn't people be given time to consider their original decision and have the option of deciding which is the best course of action to take next?

HurricaneFloss · 22/09/2018 11:59

Well, that's great for your DD. And my DD who can get an Irish passport. But DD and I love our country and don't want to leave. That's why I think we should all fight for the best deal for all our children.
