to think our children will not forgive us if we don't sort Brexit out

DFiL voted Leave. He's not thick and he had his reasons but, to be frank, he's 80 and not going to have to live with the consequences long term. Especially, if the NHS don't manage to stockpile his multiple medications in the event of a No Deal.

AIBU to think we all need to kick up an almighty stink to ensure that our Government makes a deal that will protect our children's futures - even if that means remaining. Jacob Rees Mogg and his ERG buddies predict it could be 50 years for the UK to see the benefits of leaving the EU. That's too late for my DD.

Austerity has damaged enough lives, we can't let Brexit do more harm. It's no good shrugging and saying "Leave won". If this isn't sorted out there will be no winners.

Ignore 10 - the shifts have changed.

The shifts have changed!?

Oh really and tell me - how is Brussels this time of year? One suspects the pot is calling the kettle black...

I still find 10 degrees endearing. Like a crack in the ceiling that you get used to and when you finally get round to getting fixed you sort of miss it.

I need to sober up don't I? ...

More like a stopped clock ...

10 works in the favour of remainers, surely lurkers must read the posts and despair of Brexit supporters.

Poloshot · 21/09/2018 17:54

Do fuck off you patronising prick

But a stopped clock is right twice a day.

DGRossetti · 21/09/2018 18:15

But a stopped clock is right twice a day.

And once in a while, there might be a nugget of truth in what they say. Hard to find, I grant.

One of the conceits of Brexiteers is they think they are somehow an everyperson for Brexit. However there have always been cogent and thought through arguments for Leaving the EU. Personally I wasn't convinced, but that's life. However it's not those arguments we ever hear on these forums. Just soundbites and vulgar abuse.

To be honest, I could do a better job of putting the argument for Leave forwards than any of the posters here, who claim to support it.

At the behest of a PP last night - I needed to Google rather than be provided with an easy link. This was in regards to the assumption/quoted as fact that no Aircraft would be able to take off or leave the UK post-Brexit.

As Google is indeed my friend and I am used to reading through Policy docs and legis, etc, etc - I read through the Select Committee CAA evidence and the EU Evidence also presented and it appears that there are many options available and that all parties involved are focused on ensuring that a feasible option is followed.

The apparent 'worst' scenario is that the UK reverts to operating all the EASA functions that it did prior to the formation of EASA.
EASA was only formed in 2002 and became fully-functioning in 2008 - so the full functions of the CAA are not yet covered in dust in the Archives.

Here's the links:

publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201719/cmselect/cmeuleg/301-xiv/30117.htm

ec.europa.eu/commission/sites/beta-political/files/aviation.pdf

So - at least this is one area (of the several hundred) that we shouldn't over-worry about.

DGRossetti · 21/09/2018 18:21

Just remembered a cringeworth drive to work a few years ago where BBC Radio WM and BBC Radio Manchester linked up for an on-air "whos best" between the cities.

One of the subjects chosen was "music" and the Radio WM presenter (who shall remain nameless) seemed to dry up. In the end, Terry Christian (who was the Manchester champion) took pity, and started telling everybody that Birmingham had a brilliant music scene, and started listing off band after band after band from Birmingham, before moving on to Manchesters line-up.

As a Londoner, you generally get to sit out such "battles". And surely Liverpool wins every time, with The Beatles ? And The Scaffold Grin ..

How about AylesburyDGR. John Otway and Marillion. Grin

Buteo · 21/09/2018 18:30

The EU bare bones deal has been posted about before (different thread though). It’s what Grayling is relying on to save his sorry arse, although that didn’t stop him writing to each EU27 country to drum up some support; he was referred back to Barnier every time.

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 19:05

Terry Christian is surprisingly smart. Nice guy. Defies the expectations his accent gives and The Word.

HateIsNotGood · 21/09/2018 19:12

A-ha - just heard the more conciliatory tone coming from the EU.

It appears that TM is doing her job rather well; really many and most would have properly messed-up by now, I know I would have lost my rag well before now. She is being 'steadfast' and this is what we need irrespective of party politics or individual referendum vote

I wish her well - and I'm sure once A Deal or No Deal is done, she has every intention of retiring.

Like her or not, like her politics or not, but as usual it takes a woman to clean up a man's mess. Many posts on MN refer to similar.

RedToothBrush · 21/09/2018 19:14

Parallel dimension.

woman11017 · 21/09/2018 19:16

Smart Manchunians. I'll start: Mark E Smith, Shaun Ryder, Anthony Burgess.......

Peregrina · 21/09/2018 19:20

Yes, TM was 'Strong and stable' with her last election c.f. 'steadfast'. And we pesky electorate made her lose a working majority. Thoughtless of us, wasn't it?

Buteo · 21/09/2018 19:28

Your conciliatory tone coming from the EU is my sod off with your lies, we you weeks ago Chequers wasn’t gonna fly, we even drew pictures and everything to explain it

Parallel universe indeed.

HateIsNotGood · 21/09/2018 19:47

Peregrine quite possibly, however as she was a Leader that hadn't been voted in as Leader in a General Election, in order to counter any 'accusations' that she didn't have the Electorate behind her. So, unfortunately she had to do a "not another one" GE.

Although she lost a firm majority, the Party that she was the Elected Leader of did win, albeit by forming an Alliance with the DUP.

It gives her credibility in negotiations, so just as well.

Ahhhh you are a Londoner! Your europhilic sausage loving verbiage makes much more sense now!

I live in the shires and London, as they say, is another country :)

HateIsNotGood · 21/09/2018 19:54

Buteo - whilst I'm not entirely sure what you are saying - I'll just say 'Chequers was an opening gambit, followed by instant dismissal, with bad behaviour, followed by TM stating "so what are you offering then and don't treat me or my country like shit, be respectful".

Followed by - ok, we must be a bit nicer and work towards a solution that is good for everybody.

Nerves of Steel.

Moussemoose · 21/09/2018 20:00

How can 'sausage loving' be an insult.

Surely we all love a sausage????

bellinisurge · 21/09/2018 20:01

Another vote for sausage
