To call the police about creepy car on street

Hi all,

Hoping there's someone up who can make me feel a little better. Basically for the last few nights a black Mercedes has been pulling up on the street with a direct view into my upstairs window (full length, curtains always open). Always after midnight. It sits there for around an hour sometimes more, sidelights on and no interior lights (occupants not even having phone screens on which light their faces...) but definitely people inside.

When this happened a few nights ago I saw the reflection of something pointed at my house as a car drove past - looks like a camera lens or similar. I called the police, they sent someone to drive by but they left without speaking to the car. 20 minutes ish later someone left the car, walked across the car park behind my house to another street. The car pulled off a little later.

I assumed it was a couples liaison or something and that I was imagining the lens reflection. It's been here for the last couple nights but I ignored it. Tonight I saw the reflection of something again and watched the drivers side occupant scratch their face clearly holding something and body positioned towards my house. Called police again and shut my curtains. Around 5 minutes later the car pulled away.

Am I being paranoid, or am I being watched?! Sitting here telling myself both things alternately. I live alone with my 3 year old daughter for context.

Hope you are ok rather unnerving for you.

Great diagram.

Do any of the nearby houses have teenage DC? When one of our teen neighbours was "courting" , her BF dad used to come to pick him up but would sometimes be sat for up to an hour waiting on him appearing, used to drive me demented as they would park further up the street but not put their lights off and they'd shine directly into my l'room and study. I was glad when she finally moved out. Her younger brother then started the same and his GF's parent would turn up and do the same fecking routine! Thankfully they seem to have broken up.

Hope all is well and there is an innocent explanation.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2018 00:31

The thing with the device raised to their face, could they have facial recognition on their phone and therefore putting it up to their face to open it? or maybe it's light reflected off their glasses?

sianais · 22/09/2018 00:37

WaxOn, no teenage DCs and never anyone getting in only out. Device wise- not a phone as no 'phone glow' at all but could be glasses! Hoping it's something like that

fingers crossed for an innocent explanation OP, I take it there is no sign of anything tonight?

sianais · 22/09/2018 00:44

Not yet, I'll be up for an hour or so but then going to sleep, I'm not waiting up to be spooked out. I'll call tomorrow if they show then but not tonight.

I'd just go and get your head down, I must do the same really but I dropped off for about a minute earlier and that's my sleep fucked for the night. I'm not working tomorrow but DS has an early morning driving lesson so I'll wake to make sure he is up.

Dairymilkmuncher · 22/09/2018 00:51

Just read this, so creepy!

Keep calling the police like you have been but I know I've pulled over when I was a smoker in random places to have a sneaky smoke so I wouldn't be seen smoking also other times just to close my eyes and rest not properly sleep and I wouldn't have thought that I was worrying any locals I would have done it without thinking. And the glare could have been from glasses....

I'm just really hoping there is happy explanation

overnightangel · 22/09/2018 00:53

Hope you get it sorted it must terrible having to be worried about bring in your own home

sexnotgender · 22/09/2018 00:55

That’s very odd! Glad the police are taking it seriously. Hope you get a peaceful nights sleep tonight.

Thankewe · 22/09/2018 01:03

anitagreen · 22/09/2018 01:19

Hope they have gone Shock

GlitteryFluff · 22/09/2018 01:52

Next time they show up wander out the room (Incase they're watching) call police and then go back to where you was and act normal. Don't close curtains etc and hopefully they'll stay and get caught when police show?

Showpony2 · 22/09/2018 02:12

Why don’t the police actually approach the car and speak with who ever is inside?

TheMaddHugger · 22/09/2018 02:56

sianais Sat 22-Sep-18 00:14:36 the direct view is into my computer room and sitting room - luckily not my room.

Ohh, I thought they were seeing into your bedroom.

A nice bright hand held spot light would be what i would do. Aim and turn it on. See what they do next.
If they are looking at breaking in, they[should] move onto to an easier target.

TheMaddHugger · 22/09/2018 02:58

How long have you lived there ? Could they be mistakenly looking for prior occupants ?

LEMtheoriginal · 22/09/2018 06:32

Blatant place marking. Im going for the shift workers lunch break theory.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/09/2018 07:25

@sianais your diagram was one of the best I've seen on Mumsnet Grinespecially liked Crazy Cat Lady.

Hoping the car didn't turn up in the early hours this morning.

Catspyjamazzzz · 22/09/2018 07:54

Great diagram. Hope you had a good night.

BlueJava · 22/09/2018 08:00

If you have no weird connections maybe they are looking for something - but perhaps to the side, or even behind, your house.Years ago we had a car in our street, it would turn up in the late evening and two guys would stay in the car and just sit there. I was a bit worried - I had to come home late from work. My OH at the time just went over and asked them, they said they were police but watching something and not to worry. I felt a lot better after that and just ignored them. If you are on your own usually, but have friends tonight perhaps you could ask them.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 22/09/2018 08:00

You don’t sound paranoid.

Definitely report.
