To call the police about creepy car on street

Hi all,

Hoping there's someone up who can make me feel a little better. Basically for the last few nights a black Mercedes has been pulling up on the street with a direct view into my upstairs window (full length, curtains always open). Always after midnight. It sits there for around an hour sometimes more, sidelights on and no interior lights (occupants not even having phone screens on which light their faces...) but definitely people inside.

When this happened a few nights ago I saw the reflection of something pointed at my house as a car drove past - looks like a camera lens or similar. I called the police, they sent someone to drive by but they left without speaking to the car. 20 minutes ish later someone left the car, walked across the car park behind my house to another street. The car pulled off a little later.

I assumed it was a couples liaison or something and that I was imagining the lens reflection. It's been here for the last couple nights but I ignored it. Tonight I saw the reflection of something again and watched the drivers side occupant scratch their face clearly holding something and body positioned towards my house. Called police again and shut my curtains. Around 5 minutes later the car pulled away.

Am I being paranoid, or am I being watched?! Sitting here telling myself both things alternately. I live alone with my 3 year old daughter for context.

I know several people who tell colleagues they are going for a walk during their lunch break and instead sit in their cars eating their lunch and occasionally having a nap!

Cardiganandcuppa · 21/09/2018 13:43

Read for meaning Half. He wasnt in a car park.

caroloro · 21/09/2018 14:11

I had a similar regular event for a while. It turned out it was a neighbour being dropped back after a late shift by a colleague and they liked to stop and have a natter!

Yours could be more sinister than this, but just so you've got an alternate explanation!

tessiegirl · 21/09/2018 17:06

Hope tonight goes ok op

bobstersmum · 21/09/2018 20:05

Haha no, I noted the car registration down and tried to watch which direction it headed off in a few times without looking like I was following, then one day my pure coincidence noticed the car parking up in the factory car park at similar time, noticed after that it was there every day. My elderly neighbour had also said she had noticed the car but her dh had said the man looked like he was reading the paper each day. So conclusion drawn.

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 21/09/2018 20:08

Is it there yet OP?

Ohb0llocks · 21/09/2018 20:44

Is there somewhere you could position yourself to watch them without them seeing you?

WellThisIsShit · 21/09/2018 20:44

@JLG19 sorry! I should have read more carefully you are right Blush.

In my (somewhat limited!) defence, is just come from an utterly bonkers thread where the suggestions were really, um, surprising, so when I read yours it just felt in tune with the general feel of ‘wow, today on mumsnet...’. Also as other posters had already said that the OP should go up to the car and ask etc at the beginning of the thread, it didn’t feel like too big a stretch. Buuuut... you didn’t mean that and I misread a perfectly innocent post as a hair raising ‘let’s kill the op’ type of suggestion! Sorry Sorry Sorry. Blush

OP, I hope you are laughing at me and not scared tonight Wink

sianais · 21/09/2018 20:45

Redglitter, that's reassuring - hopefully this is able to happen :)

Caroloro I feel like that could be what is happening - last night has made me doubt that slightly due to where they stopped (Why block a car park entrance when there are other spaces v near to where you usually stop?) but we'll see. Gonna keep curtains open tonight if they turn up and call police as requested.

Just want to be able to sleep well and unfortunately this is really affecting my stress levels, don't feel like I can relax in the evening and when you have a chronic health condition like me that is pretty hellish. Even if they just park somewhere else, don't care what they're doing.

Have left my car in the same spot tonight - hopefully they won't obstruct the car park again, because that will be more evidence they are trying to see in my window. If they do I'll have a word with my neighbour (I don't like him but he is big and burly and will probably go and start his car just to make them stop blocking the car park entrance).

ohb0llocks you should have seen my friend the other day- the window takes up most of the back wall of the room so he was lying on the sofa trying to see what they were up to without being spotted and I was creasing with laughter.

Thanks WellThisIsShit, I need a good chuckle - I will not be doing ANYTHING that has a remote chance of death as I am not quite ready to die. Plus I haven't written a will leaving my rented house and debt mountains to anyone yet ;)

Cant. Wait.for.update.but.keep.yourself.safe

liverbird79 · 21/09/2018 21:32

I would so be out at the end of the street hiding then filming them as they pulled up.

Then tapping on the window when asking what they are doing.

But I am quite upfront and dont have much common sense!

spugzbunny · 21/09/2018 21:42

Crikey! This has scared me too! I'm a right fraidy pants about the dark but I also like to have curtains open. I'm sure the neighbours think I'm an exhibitionist!

RebootYourEngine · 21/09/2018 22:15

This is scary. There is no way I would be going anywhere near the car.i would however be phoning the police every time I saw the car.

Imustbemad00 · 21/09/2018 22:23

Did it turn up again?

sianais · 21/09/2018 22:33

Imustbemad, it doesn't come til midnight earliest usually so got a while to wait yet.

Glad you called the police again OP and lots of people are looking out for you.

DiveBombingSeagull · 21/09/2018 22:37

Glad the police are taking it seriously. Can you get CCTV? We got some cheap cameras for about £30 from Amazon - motion activated, night vision and can see it on an app.
Might give you more peace of mind.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/09/2018 22:59

This sounds really worrying OP. Hopefully it'll be something innocent though.

How many people are in the car? If you can manage to see in to tell.

sianais · 21/09/2018 23:01

Coveting, I think it's the driver and 1 passenger - I've only ever seen 1 person leave the car.

Singingitoverandoverandover · 21/09/2018 23:03

This made me shut my curtains 😂

Notmethistimehonest · 21/09/2018 23:07

Sorry to detail but divebombingseagull could you possibly link to the cameras you got please?

Good luck tonight OP Flowers

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/09/2018 23:08

If you need to fill the time between now & midnight you can always draw us a diagram of the car park entrance situation Wink

Seriously though, hope you're ok OP. I agree with others to try keep curtains open so hopefully they'll still be there for the police.

Keel · 21/09/2018 23:12

Hope you're ok OP. I think I'd be acquiring a big guard dog.
