Thank you everyone who's been posting in the last few days.

I haven't felt up to following any of this live; I'm just peeking through my fingers at most of it.

cozietoesie · 28/09/2018 20:36

I was going to mock you for 'peeking', Perking, but I haven't got the heart for it.

Kennedy, exiting McConnell’s office meeting on Kavanaugh, says an accord has been reached; statement to be issued

ohmymimi · 28/09/2018 20:38

Guessing SmugConnell has been persuaded he doesn't have the votes, Across ?

PerkingFaintly · 28/09/2018 20:42

Aha, as a pun touché, cozie. Grin

But yeah, it's hard to see the light side just now, isn't it?

I read this declaration from Judge, which AP reported as a general agreement to cooperate w/ law enforcement, as only referring to investigations of Julie Swetnick’s allegations.

Maybe those "just like my dad's" calendars he's so proud of will be his undoing.

My questions for Judge Kavanaugh from his HS yearbook:
-What is "boofed?"
-What is "The Devil's Triangle?"
-What is "FFFFF?"
-Who is "Renate" to you?
-Who is Anne Daugherty to you?
-Who is Wendy Whitney to you?
-What happened at Beach Week?

A classmate of Kavanaugh’s who knew him in high school says that “Wendy Whitney Fan Club” refers to another classmate’s breast size.

PLAYBOOK SCOOP: house gop leadership has agreed to allow a private group of republicans to grill Rod Rosenstein in the coming weeks.
If he doesn’t show up, they’ll subpoena him.

Grill him on .......what??

AcrossthePond55 · 28/09/2018 21:21

It's certainly a thought mimi. There's got to be something going on since he was so definite about ramming the vote through tomorrow.

Whether it's not having the definite 'yea' votes or because congressional phone lines are being lit up by angry constituents, who knows? The midterms are nigh and the talking heads are starting to indicate that the Senate might well be flipped if the Kavanaugh issue isn't handled correctly. They just don't know or agree on exactly what 'correctly' means.

All I know is that in the 'normal course of things' Kavanaugh would have withdrawn his name long ago 'for the good of the country', either voluntarily or on the advice (demand) of the POTUS. This is just another example of how far from 'normal' we've come.

Saw that earlier, my Pulp Fiction fanboy DS was very impressed!

Judiciary Cmte: The supplemental FBI background investigation would be limited to current credible allegations against the nominee and must be completed no later than one week from today.

At this point, I really have nothing to add. I’m just watching all of this unfold like the rest of you. And yes, I've never seen anything like this before.

I'm wondering why Trump is so very relaxed about it too. Maybe his medication is still working.

ohmymimi · 28/09/2018 21:59

This is just another example of how far from 'normal' we've come.
I heard a discussion earlier (on 'The Majority Report') about how insidious the Stinker's pathological lying is. It has become so normalised it has inured many to lying by others. Kav.'s spray of lies hardly raised an eyebrow in some quarters, and certainly not by the Repuglies on the ctee. In the past, discovering just one inconsistency in such testimony would have been notable.

cozietoesie · 28/09/2018 22:06

I think he sees a 'way out' for himself, Gump. That's why......

ohmymimi · 28/09/2018 22:07

So, who defines 'credible'? If the Feds come across other allegations during their investigations, they just ignore them? If several more women come forward to the ctee during the week, what will they do?

Quantumblue · 28/09/2018 22:11

Surely the FBI will set the scope once the are allowed to do their job?
