That chocolate is better at room temp instead of cold from the fridge?

Having a debate at work (clearly all very busy today...) about whether chocolate should be kept in the fridge or not. I never put mine in the fridge and I don’t like it chilled. I seemed to be completely in the minority. AIBU?

YANBU. Never been able to fathom why anyone would refrigerate chocolate. It ruins the taste, makes it harder to sense the flavour, and gets rid of the nicest part which is feeling it melt in your mouth. Not to mention the weird white bits that appear.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 18/09/2018 14:17

Noooooooooo cold chocolate is the best.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 18/09/2018 14:18

YANBU. The whole point of chocolate is way that it melts as soon as you put it in your mouth. That doesn't happen with refrigerated chocolate as it takes too long to warm up to the correct temperature.

ilovechurros · 18/09/2018 14:18

YANBU
I went on a chocolate making course recently and they said NEVER refrigerate chocolate.

Talcott2007 · 18/09/2018 14:20

YABVVU. Cold chocolate that is allowed to slowly rise in temperature upon the tongue and melt is one of the most life's greatest indulgences...

Cattenberg · 18/09/2018 14:23

I think melted Belgian chocolate from a chocolate fountain has the best taste of all. I never put chocolate in the fridge.

WhatdoImean · 18/09/2018 14:30

OK - at the risk of being shot for being uncultured....

CDM from the fridge, a glass of ice cold milk and a good book on the sofa = heaven of an evening for me Smile

Norma27 · 18/09/2018 14:35

I much prefer chocolate from the fridge. My daughter prefers it room temp. Husband and other daughter couldn’t care as long as they are eating chocolate!

leghairdontcare · 18/09/2018 14:36

I think it depends. I wouldn't put fancy chocolates in the fridge but I love really cold giant buttons that snap when you eat them.

Kemer2018 · 18/09/2018 14:38

Yanbu.
I prefer it dipped into a hot drink though.

BelfastBloke · 18/09/2018 14:40

You mean freezer. Chocolate is best out of the freezer. With a hot black coffee.

Mummaluelae · 18/09/2018 14:41

Room temp is the best. If its hot and melts I'll melt it and dip banana slices into it! Yum

Haireverywhere · 18/09/2018 14:41

This year's heat wave was the first time I've ever chilled chocolate. Usually I never put it in the fridge. I didn't realise anyone did!

Poodles1980 · 18/09/2018 14:41

Never in the fridge, cold chocolate is rancid, it needs to be warm. CDM with a bag of ready salted crisps and a pot of tea would be a death row snack for me

PoxAlert · 18/09/2018 14:41

Totally agree.

Even in summer when it's melting I still hate fridge chocolate.

Slightly soft chocolate is the bessssst.

Hillarious · 18/09/2018 14:43

The Lindt Lindor truffles absolutely have to go in the fridge.

user1471523870 · 18/09/2018 14:43

I never even thought of putting chocolate in the fridge!

alwaysthepessimist · 18/09/2018 14:43

nononononononononononono

YABVVVVVU

Chocolate should always be eaten frozen!

I accept I am weird......my chocolate instantly gets put in the freezer, even milky ways, cannot eat chocolate even slightly warm.

TurtleCove · 18/09/2018 14:45

I prefer room temperature, but the snap from breaking cold chocolate is quite satisfying.

Boredboredboredboredbored · 18/09/2018 14:45

You are crazy!!!!

Frosty66611 · 18/09/2018 14:52

@hillarious I like the lindor balls room temp so the centres are almost liquid. Have you tried the new mint flavour? So good!

OP posts:
Hillarious · 18/09/2018 14:55

Frosty - but when they're liquid, the centre just sticks to your teeth and isn't nice at all. Current favourites are the coconut ones. Bought some mango ones in Berlin last week as a present for DS1, but he's not opened them yet!

showmeahero · 18/09/2018 14:57

Noooooo cold chocolate, it loses its taste! Room temperature for sure Wink

BrickByBrick · 18/09/2018 14:57

YANBU chocolate never goes in the fridge.

Frosty66611 · 18/09/2018 14:58

@hillarious I love that sort of texture. I made homemade truffles once that were basically just ganache that stuck to the roof my mouth. Delicious!
Mango ones sound incredible. I like the hazelnut ones that come out for Christmas. Not fussy though and would demolish a box of any flavour
