I picked DD's middle name, said he can have DS's, but I assumed it would be a name he just liked not after a film/book character.

Depends on the name.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 15/09/2018 21:26

YABU if it's a proper name.

DDs name is a name ExH liked that he read in a book. I choose her middle name after a family member. Both proper names. Does it matter where it comes from?

Rockyroadmallow · 15/09/2018 21:27

Depends what name it is.
If it's something like Peter (Peter Parker) why not?
I named a couple of my kids after characters. Well, kind of. I fell in love with the names because I loved the characters and I don't regret that at all because I adore them!
As long as it's relatively normal and not something like 'Vader' after Darth Vader, I don't see the problem !

CupOfStars · 15/09/2018 21:28

Why does it matter where he heard it??

orangetr · 15/09/2018 21:28

I wouldn't mind if it wasn't obvious, but although it is a 'normal' name. I think most people would make the connection.

It's Ronald.

I would say no if it's something like Pinocchio Wink

ItsColdNow · 15/09/2018 21:29

If it’s Dumbo that might not be fair.
One of my children has a middle name I hate. My oh wanted to call him that as his name but I couldn’t, so it’s the middle name and I still hate it. The next child I chose the middle name (a flower) and he hates that. So that’s unfortunate:

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 21:29

I can’t see the book/film connection with Ronald🤨
Can’t say I like the name tho

LemonBreeland · 15/09/2018 21:30

Ronald doesn't bring up character to me other than Ronald McDonald

WutheringFrights · 15/09/2018 21:30

Rumpelstiltskin!

Lilllyy · 15/09/2018 21:30

I can't think of any characters called Ronald

Butterymuffin · 15/09/2018 21:30

After Weasley?

AlpineButterfly · 15/09/2018 21:30

Our boys names both came.from American comedy shows. Not my finest moment Grin

Girlsnightin · 15/09/2018 21:30

I'd say no, as it's an awful name to give a child. Never mind it's from a film!

CatWizard · 15/09/2018 21:30

I don't know what it's from either Confused

ItsColdNow · 15/09/2018 21:31

Ronald? What’s wrong with that? It was my grandfathers name and I know 2 small Ronnie’s.
What film is it from?

YouTheCat · 15/09/2018 21:31

Just call him 'Dobby' and have done with it. Grin

tiredtiredtiredtired · 15/09/2018 21:31

Ron Weasley obviously!

Rosered1235 · 15/09/2018 21:31

Ronald is terrible. Now Harry would be better.

ItsColdNow · 15/09/2018 21:31

Ron Weasley?

Disfordarkchocolate · 15/09/2018 21:31

Ronald only makes me think of McDonald and Regan and even those not that quickly.

orangetr · 15/09/2018 21:31

Yes after Weasley in Harry Potter. He admits he only likes it because he was so into the character growing up and felt like he related to him when he was a kid. He says he probably wouldn't love it if it wasn't that.

Our DD is named after a tv show character .... she was strong and sassy but now sadly she is annoying and whingey as the seasons have gone on (the character not DD .... although....)

Awrite · 15/09/2018 21:32

Kray?

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 15/09/2018 21:33

Is it after Ron Weasley?

If it is I wouldn't automatically think of that on hearing Ronald if I didn't know it was after a character. (I had to think for a moment for film/book Ronalds and only came up with Ron Weasley because I've just read a Harry Potter book to my DS.

Nothing wrong with Ronald if you both like the name.
