I picked DD's middle name, said he can have DS's, but I assumed it would be a name he just liked not after a film/book character.

I think that’s totally fine. Liking a name because of a connection to it is still liking it.

kaytee87 · 15/09/2018 21:33

Is it just for the middle name? Or first name?

Ronald isn't a very nice name but not completely obvious as HP connection.

BikeRunSki · 15/09/2018 21:33

I’m named after a literary character.

What does your DH have in mind? Hulk?

BikeRunSki · 15/09/2018 21:34

Got distracted and thread moved on..,,

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 21:35

Ron Weasley, Ronnie Biggs, Ron Kray, Ronald Reagan.............
None of which would inspire me to name a baby after them

Slimtimeagain · 15/09/2018 21:35

I really don't think people will make the connection. I had to read the comments to see the connection! I forgot about Ronald Weasley..

KingBobra · 15/09/2018 21:36

I don't think it will stand out in the current context of all the Alfies, Stanleys and Archies. My main association with Ronald is Reagan, but that dates me.

PawneeParksDept · 15/09/2018 21:39

Let him do it, it's a middle name and I didn't automatically make the Weasley connection. It's at least a normal trad name

A friends ex was TEDIOUS about this insisting that the name or the middle be some niche character from a variety of geek things he was into but awful or yooneek names not proper ones.

And yes, I judged.

Ronald isn't even in a league with some of the names his kids got saddled with

liquidrevolution · 15/09/2018 21:40

YABU I think it's sweet and he has given a valid reason.

Tbh middle names are not used much and most people will assume it's used because it's a family name.

Petalflowers · 15/09/2018 21:41

I know a teenage Ronald. Perfectly fine name.

Growing up, I also considered Charlotte (after Charlottes Web), but then it became too popular. There’s lots of people in their 40s named Heidi after a tv series, and Archie’s after Monarch of the Glen, and Evie’s after House of Elliott.

I quite like your dh’s reasoning behind the name.

CatWizard · 15/09/2018 21:42

How often is he going to his middle name anyway?

icannotthinkofauser · 15/09/2018 21:44

I think it's really sweet as it's something your DP liked growing up and I think YABU

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 15/09/2018 21:57

Our middle daughter is named after a cartoon character. She's a secondary character but gets the better of the main character when she is involved.

Basecamp65 · 15/09/2018 21:58

My middle name is after an actress - it's not something I ever give a second thought to

It's a middle name - few people will ever even here it after the first few months.

Pebblespony · 15/09/2018 22:00

I know none of my friends' middle names. They don't really matter except to close family.

Jessbow · 15/09/2018 22:01

Peter Eeyore Would not be good
Peter Ronald is fine

AspieHere · 15/09/2018 22:02

"Just call him 'Dobby' and have done with it." 😂😂😂😂😂

What about Bilius then? Ron's middle name 😁.

ShowOfHands · 15/09/2018 22:02

I know 3 little Ronalds.

My DD is named after the eponymous heroine of my favourite childhood book and my DS is named after a Ninja Turtle so I am exempt from having a sensible opinion.

Valanice1989 · 15/09/2018 22:07

I think that's sweet. And Ronald is a nice middle name.

Lilicat1013 · 15/09/2018 22:09

I named my son after a TV character but it's a very normal name and a reference only fans notice.

Ronald is a normal name and it's nice it means something to your husband. If you look at it as just a name rather than a character name how do you feel about it?

Watto1 · 15/09/2018 22:12

Our DD is Mia, named after Uma Thurman's character in Pulp Fiction. It was DH's favourite film at the time. I can't imagine her being called anything else. I think a middle name especially can give you scope for a bit of artistic license!

Clarissa111 · 15/09/2018 22:21

I think Ronald is fine. My niece is leia after princess Leia, but no one has picked up on it. If a bit, his middle name would have been Chewbacca, which is a totally different ball game!
Ronald is a normal name, and as a big harry potter fan, I still wouldn't make the connection.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2018 22:35

My DC have no middle names so I just insert some at random. At the moment DS has Tim (short for Optimus Prime) as his middle name Grin

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 22:38

Taking it all back after some contemplation.
Ron is a nice name

kierenthecommunity · 15/09/2018 22:43

I’ve actually got a colleague called Ronald who’s only in his thirties so must have been a bit unusual at school in the 90s. Unsurprisingly he goes by Ronnie and as he’s a decent guy I actually don’t mind the name now as it has positive connections

As a middle name I wouldn’t be able especially bothered personally. Does he like your DD’s middle name?
