I picked DD's middle name, said he can have DS's, but I assumed it would be a name he just liked not after a film/book character.

I think that's really sweet.

DH has taken to calling our unborn baby Bruce, before we even knew the sex (it's a boy) because he loves batman, I keep telling him I don't mind as a bump nickname but we are not calling our baby Bruce. He was coming up with other random names, that I later found out were largely from comic book characters 🙄

I have drawn a line about my uterus being referred to as the batcave

"Tim" being short for Optimus Prime is the best thing I've heard all day Grin

DD is named after a song I love. It's as a good a reason as any to choose a name.

If I heard Ronald as a middle name, I’d assume it was after a family member or something. I wouldn’t make the Weasley connection unprompted, even as a HP fan, so I think YABU.

The first thing that sprung to my mind was Ronald McDonald. The Harry Potter fandom/characters didn't even enter my head.

As an aside, I went to school with a boy named Ronald McDonald.Sad (His siblings all had normal names that didn't rhyme with the surname, so not sure why poor Ronald copped it).

The connection isn't obvious and I like the name Ronald

I like the name Ronald - it can be cute for a kid (Ronnie) but is a proper man's name as well and it's underused these days so there won't be a ton of them in school.

I wouldn't think Weasley straight away and I'm quite a big Potter fan.

It's sweet your DH wants to call him something that he feels such a connection to.
