... to say that 'Lush' are an amazing shop?

This morning, my DP took my DDs shopping for my birthday gifts.
The smallest is 6, and LOVES Lush. She insisted that I needed something from there so she could play around with the bath bombs.
DP apparently found a few things, and DD trotted over to look at the pretty things. She picked up a bath bomb, and inadvertently knocked the entire display over. Bath bombs rolling all over the place!

DD burst into tears, and was mortified.
The lovely assistant brought her a tissue, laughed and said it was very funny, and not to worry.
She then asked DD which was her favorite. She picked out a bubble bar. The assistant gift wrapped it, and gave it to her for free!

That was such a kind gesture, and my DD was over the moon.
Thank you Lush! Smile

YABU unreasonable. Check out #flushlush and #boycottlush for all the issues with this less than ethical company

Havaina · 15/09/2018 23:05

Silver, i skimmed through the links admittedly, but how do they prove 'Most people - the public, not the police - interpreted it as an image of a uniformed copper on and off duty.'? The data is anecdotal, not quantifiable.

And it's ok, you can 🙄 all you want! Smile

anniehm · 15/09/2018 23:08

Not keen myself, just walking past makes me feel ill from the smell - and the bath bombs leave too much residue for me to clean (teenager don't clean baths, I don't take baths so it's never me)

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 23:15

70isaLimitNotaTarget
I've always found the staff very friendly and helpful. That plus the low plastics was why I used to buy quite a bit there.

I've since called out of love with how the company gets behind issues. There's no nuance, not much in the way of debate and too much trying to get clickbaity headlines (which is only added to by the impression that they pick their campaigns based on what is trending and will get them likes).
The undercover cop issue is huge and a really pressing issue. I don't think they were right to handle the campaign in the way they did.
There's massive debates to be had about gender and self ID, but lush hq devided a trans campaign with pink and blue bath bombs was the way forward.
That's 2 poorly considered campaigns in the last 6-9 months.

@WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue - you're not correct in suggesting that the products are for adults. Lush actually encourage kids to play with the products. A lot of them are recommended from birth onwards, and many are very good.
DD has been interested in the shower jelly, so an advisor brought over a bowl of water, and gave her a chunk to try out. We have experienced many similar incidents over many years.
My eldest has fond memories of being given chunks of bubble bars, and a tub of water - just to play with.

My youngest had Dream Cream and the honey soap from birth, because of her skin problems. It helped us no end at the time. The assistants would always spend ages answering questions, and providing samples.
I have no clue how she knocked the whole stack down. Then again, she's only just had a cast removed after shattering her arm at trampoline club. It's highly probable that her manual dexterity is not as good as she expects.
Telling her off would have achieved nothing. Poor kid was so embarrassed when she told me. It's highly unlikely that she will reenact it in another store for the 'lols'.

I used to love Lush, I spent a ton of money in there and I loved their products.

Then they decided to support hunt saboteurs (aka violent thugs) and attack the police. I haven't set foot in one of their shops since the hunt sabs campaign, and much as I miss their products, refuse to do so again on principle.

SwordToFlamethrower · 16/09/2018 00:06

Nah it's shit overpriced soap. And not cis. Boycotted them over that nonesense

SunnyintheSun · 16/09/2018 00:25

No, haven’t shopped there since they decided trans women are women.

XXcstatic · 16/09/2018 00:29

Even before the police campaign, I stopped using them after their US campaign about trans issues.

I don't have a problem with them being pro-trans rights. I do have a problem with any business shoving its views down my throat while trying to flog me over-priced soap. It's so sexist - no retailer aimed at men would ever do this, but it's fine to tell women what to think Hmm

I have been a loyal customer ever since I bought some Bath bombs, their card machine was down, I didn't have any cash & couldn't draw any as it was a credit card not a debit...and they gifted me both bath bombs (£8 approx). That really made an impression on me and they deserve to be supported. A company with ethics, not just out to make a profit.

AnythingButMagnolia · 16/09/2018 00:42

The so called police issue hasn't stopped me shopping there and I think they were attempting to highlight a valid issue. Corruption is wrong in any area and the police service should not be exempt from scrutiny. I have knowledge of this area and know that public trust can be abused and manipulated and lead to complacency and the feeling of being 'untouchable'. Not ok. That said, the majority of the police are honest and decent individuals IME.

GloGirl · 16/09/2018 00:55

A really similar experience happened to me in the summer holidays. I took my 2 young children in to Lush, whilst I was talking to the assistant asking for mild bath bombs my son quickly went to climb a small cupboard next to one of their sinks. It toppled, crashed and scared the shit out of everyone but no harm done.

Son crying, he then got a lecture from me about climbing, he cried for about 5 minutes whilst I finished up, checked out (assistant helping me opened a till for us to complete quickly)

And he got a free bath bomb on his way out to say that they hoped he was ok and would cheer up. It was really sweet considering he'd been so reckless.

And I don't work for lush but have written on here previously that I support their police campaign. I am always in defence of police officers and respectful of the law- but what the state sanctioned with the relationships, so far as fathering children is disgusting. Those women opened up their homes, and bodies just to be used for intelligence. It's horrendous.

roadrunner11 · 16/09/2018 00:57

I have to say I love the smell of lush whenever I walk past their shop Smile

luckycat007 · 16/09/2018 01:02

Staff always nice. Products always overpriced.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2018 01:16

I have to hold my breath when I walk past Lush, I'm not usually particularly sensitive to scents but something about it gets right up my nose.

Sounds like they have some absolutely lovely staff but crap publicity dept.

AllesAusLiebe · 16/09/2018 04:48

I must remember when my son is older to let him run around trendy stores, completely feral, knocking things over or grabbing things off shelves, in order to receive some free stuff. 🙄

picklepost · 16/09/2018 05:37

Lush is awful, their products are FULL of crap

Ditto re police campaign and connection to Mermaids Hmm

malificent7 · 16/09/2018 07:24

I love Lush simply because they use as little plastic as possible. Their shampoo bars are a great example and should be rolled out by other cosmwtic manufacturers.
We are trashing our planet with plastic and their stance should be applauded.
Their prices are prohibitive though.
As for the campaigns...the police one was odd but tbh many activists are crushed by the state.
As for hunt saboteurs...they are doing a good thing. What is not to like about people who try and stop foxes being torn apart by twats for 'fun .' Good on them for supporting hunt said and calling out this evil 'sport.'

malificent7 · 16/09/2018 07:24

I think you might be overthinking the mustache thing....surely?

malificent7 · 16/09/2018 07:25

Cosmetic sorry

malificent7 · 16/09/2018 07:26

Hunt sabs sorry...typos agggrrr!

BillywigSting · 16/09/2018 07:27

I was given some really heavy duty moisturiser from lush as a present a few years ago that eczema prone ds took a while shine to (lemony flutter, smells like sherbet lemons). It turned out to basically be the miracle cure for his skin, we had tried every trick in the gps book including steriods and nothing had worked. It was affecting his sleep and generally making the poor kid miserable.

His skin after using that went from so dry it had cracked and bled to the only trace being the scabs 24 hours later. We had waited for it to stop bleeding so it wouldn't sting because it had cleared up a patch on my hands and we were willing to try pretty much anything at that point.

I was telling one of the assistants the tale when I had gone in for more (it's the best thing for keeping it at bay and he's head to toe in it so we get through a fair bit). She gave me a huge tub of it for free (can usually only afford the little one).
Her colleague overheard us and gave him a free ceridwens cauldron to put in his bath (full of oats and stuff that is skin calming).

All the while he was playing with the play doh soap and having a great time.

So while I wasn't impressed with their campaign a few months ago, I'm still going there, partly for the sake of ds's skin, partly because the service is really good (free hand and arm massage last time I was in there) and partly because I really like their stuff

EmpressOfSpartacus · 16/09/2018 07:28

Lush have form. They had an horrific campaign where a naked young woman was tortured live in a shop window. They also had a campaign where staff were pressured into wearing t shirts and getting lip prints on them - only young female attractive staff ofc. I saw staff in tears being pawed by men trying to leave lip prints on breasts etc. Grim.

This - yes, animals shouldn't be tortured, but both Lush and PETA then torture attractive young women to get the message across. Why always women? Why not men too?

That plus Lush's support for Mermaids and their use of palm oil was enough to stop me going anywhere near them.
