I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

Well, a month in to HRT and I can report that my nails are no longer splitting - they used to be flaky but are now quite strong. Haven’t noticed anything else yet.

Miladymilord · 17/09/2018 20:31

Oh no! I want more than nice nails! I want sleep!!

My Aunt took HRT until she hit 86!
i've taken it for 11 years and it has stopped me from becming a grumpy, sweaty old crow.

strawberrysalsa · 17/09/2018 20:44

I'm just waiting for my periods to stop....I'm 56 in a few weeks and my periods are more regular than they have ever been!

I had a Mirena for years and no periods at all while using it but my GP felt it was time to stop so she could check if I was menopausal. My daughter reckons all the periods I missed over the years were just waiting and I won't stop ever!

Hate all this! I'm permanently tired, need to wee more often than I did when pregnant and I can't remember the last time I slept properly.

seventhgonickname · 17/09/2018 21:09

I'm enjoying HRT,took a while to get one that suited and the dose but things are immeasurably better.I intent to stay on as long as possible.

ILoveAllRainbows · 17/09/2018 21:20

I am 52 and have not had any perimenopausal symptoms. Is there anyone else my age or older who hasn't had any symptoms?

I'm obviously not complaining, but I am just concerned that there is something wrong with me as everything I have read says that most women start having symptoms in their late forties.

I started my period at around age 13 so around the normal age, but have never had children, so I wonder if that has any bearing.

I have been taking ground flaxseeds for the last 2 years, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

FlyingElbows · 17/09/2018 21:21

I'm 41 and having loads of peri symptoms. GP is thankfully not dismissive and I'm waiting on a raft of blood test results. She mentioned antidepressants being effective in treating symptoms but she didn't say much more. I'm back in 3 weeks to get all the test results and I'm wondering if I should mention hrt, or is that something for further down the road?

Miladymilord · 17/09/2018 21:29

I don't think all.women have symptoms. My mum didn't.

@ILoveAllRainbows

You posted earlier this afternoon and also mentioned flaxseeds

Serious question. Are you sure you’re not suffering symptoms? because brain fog / memory loss is classic menopause symptom

Miladymilord · 17/09/2018 21:41

I eat flaxseed. I eat lots of veg. I eat very little red meat. Fish three times a week. Very little alcohol. I run. I drink a lot of coffee (bad). My blood pressure is good. I'm a stone overweight.

Still have insomniac, hot flashes, aching joints. Less brain fog than a year ago. RAGE.

@Lostandfound81

Thanks for checking. Yes, I know I did but I don't expect people to remember (or even read) what I posted a few hours ago and so I thought it best to post again.

I assume that you aren't getting any symptoms as you have a very good memory!

Lostandfound81 · 17/09/2018 21:56

I did get lots of symptoms. Awful.

Then went on HRT, and all cleared up. I’m of the view it’s a miracle worker as I have reclaimed my life.

ILoveAllRainbows · 17/09/2018 21:58

Yes, my mother was on HRT for over 20 years I think and she said that it transformed her life.

ILoveAllRainbows · 17/09/2018 22:00

@ Miladymilord

I have the same diet as you but don't have coffee. I've read that coffee is very bad for symptoms.

ILoveAllRainbows · 17/09/2018 22:04

@ Miladymilord

Do you eat carbs? I have cut out all carbs (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc) for the last few years.

Lostandfound81 · 17/09/2018 22:11

Porridge is carbs

ILoveAllRainbows · 17/09/2018 22:24

Yes, I know, but it is good for you whereas rice, potatoes, and pasta aren't good for you.

Blogsshogs1 · 17/09/2018 22:26

I have read, and sympathised, with every one of these messages.

I've had an early menopause and while I've escaped flushes and sweats, the days of crushing low mood aren't fun. Nor is the anxiety. The tears. The irritability.

I'm on HRT - I'm hoping this latest switch will work. I'm optimistic. I've also started taking testosterone which intrigued me - could be the missing link for me.

I used to be driven, motivated, ambitious. Now I couldn't give a rats ass. I just want a night of unbroken sleep. And a day watching shit TV

Lostandfound81 · 17/09/2018 22:39

Yes, I know, but it is good for you whereas rice, potatoes, and pasta aren't good for you.

Confused
SarfE4sticated · 17/09/2018 22:52

There has been a lot of R4 about Menopause lately, see if you can find any of it on Iplayer. I also remember hearing on there that Iron deficiency can give a lot of the symptoms of Meno like brain fog, worth taking a multi vitamin just to be certain.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 18/09/2018 00:33

As far as I'm aware iron isn't routinely recommended for post-menopausal women. I believe this is one of the reasons not all multivitamins contain iron.

SarfE4sticated · 18/09/2018 08:02

That’s interesting mrsdw but maybe if we’re still bleeding erratically and heavily it’s worth taking anyway.

ILoveAllRainbows · 18/09/2018 08:22

*Yes, I know, but it is good for you whereas rice, potatoes, and pasta aren't good for you.

Yes, I shoud have said I have cut out refined carbs. Sorry, I forgot that not everyone knows the difference between refined and non-refined carbs.

HazelBite · 18/09/2018 08:33

I went on HRT aged 56 due to very heavy periods that were arriving closer and closer and I was feeling really drained. The HRT that I was on initially was a bit like the 'pill" and would get monthly bleeding.
I had to come off the HRT temporarily because I was having surgery in 2016 and I realised then that my periods had gone forever! After recovering from surgery I resumed HRT but with a different type.
While I was "off it' I was having up to 20 hot flushes a day, not pleasant.
HRT initially lifted my mood got rid of my brain fog and made me a happier more cheerful woman, why suffer when HRT is available.
I have a relative that felt she wasn't performing adequately at work (whilst menopausal) and was embarrassed about the sweats she was suffering whilst at work, she gave up work as she was too young to take early retirement and her GP never offered her HRT.

Miladymilord · 18/09/2018 08:54

The HRT that I was on initially was a bit like the 'pill" and would get monthly bleeding this is the one I am going to be on. I am going to start on Friday, I'm really nervous. I have a mammogram booked in October which is sort of reassuring
