I'm in bed. Feel wide awake, alternatively hot then cold. I've got leg cramps, greasy hair (wtaf), I feel really grumpy. Can't relax. I know ill wake up again in about 3 hours, drenched in sweat with restless legs. It's totally shit.

Be careful with amyltriptaline.
It really does help you sleep, I have to take it sometimes to get rid of chronic headaches but you will find after a couple of weeks you won’t sleep unless you take it.
It also gives you a sleep hangover the next day.

SkiGirl007 · 28/09/2018 21:00

Ooh I hated amyltriptaline had it for pain issue which stopped me sleeping hated the dopey hangover feeling couldn’t function at work till noon. Had to stop taking it after a few days.

Miladymilord · 29/09/2018 07:56

I took my hrt pill in the morning yesterday instead of early evening which I had been doing. Interestingly I had awful calf and foot cramps this early morning. I'd forgotten that I hadn't had those all week.

Interesting... Just had a hot flush while washing up, went upstairs to take my pill and realised I'd missed one somehow! So they are clearly working!!

OP posts:
Snog · 29/09/2018 14:01

If I miss one my sleep is always affected so they definitely make a difference to me.
Haven't had any hot flushes for a year now, so my wardrobe is quite different!

MichelleC69 · 30/09/2018 13:39

I know what you mean about the sleep hangover with Amiltryptiline but I'd rather have that than being half knackered all the time.

For those of you on HRT, does that make you all sleep better?

MichelleC69 · 03/10/2018 09:50

My bloods are back and they confirmed what I suspected. Did anyone else feel stupidly emotional about it? Am at on a train to London trying to come to terms with the fact that I'm ancient!

PeridotCricket · 03/10/2018 11:30

HI Michelle - sorry you are feeling a bit rubbish about it. Personally I can't wait (though I've been going through the longest perimenopause in history - I'm 50 and this has been dragging on since I was late 30s.

I think I'll get new vigour and start doing yoga and ommy-type stuff. It's the next stage - I'm going to embrace it.

Miladymilord · 03/10/2018 19:19

Bloody hot flushes are back Angry today and yesterday

For me it is the extreme, absolute tiredness and not feeling like I am coping. (By that I mean, missing appointments, not thinking straight).
I am on HRT.
Prior to HRT I felt like an 80-year-old woman walking up the stairs, bones cracking and an effort to get up there. Now I can get up the stairs ok but generally am so, so tired. I can't do anything that uses my brain past 7 pm.

Miladymilord · 03/10/2018 19:41

I felt absolutely knackered today. Worse than without hrt!

BestIsWest · 03/10/2018 20:04

Yes, the tiredness is overwhelming. I am sleeping better, in fact I went to bed at 8pm on Monday and slept all night. This was after a nap from 4pm to 6pm.

That said, I had my Mirena removed today (it had been in there for 9 years so wasn’t doing anything), came home, had a bath and then felt a bit rejuvenated and took the dogs for a walk. I even ran (once, very slowly) round the football pitch. Dogs were a bit startled, don’t think they’d ever seen anything like it.

ihatethecold · 04/10/2018 08:07

Got an awful migraine last night. I was driving my dd to a friends and I was yawning every 10 seconds. By the time I got home I couldn’t string a sentence together.
Had a triptan tablet and went to bed. Slept badly and look 10 years older today.
I’ve got college in 2 hours. Dunno what to do. Hate missing a session but I’m done in and it’s a counselling course so lots of interaction 😩

blueangel1 · 04/10/2018 11:01

@MichelleC69 my sleep is definitely better with HRT. I don't sleep through the night as I will invariably need the loo at some point, but before HRT I was utterly exhausted.

MichelleC69 · 04/10/2018 11:04

@blueangel1 thanks - I now have a prescription in my hands! How long does it take to kick in?

Miladymilord · 04/10/2018 11:43

I am taking elleste duo. Felt great the first week but feel tired and hot again this week.

OP posts:
blueangel1 · 04/10/2018 11:58

@MichelleC69 if I remember rightly, it started to improve after a few days. The main thing for me was stopping the hot flushes as that was the thing really buggering up my sleep. It was such a blessed relief to be shot of them. Hope it works for you!

Miladymilord · 06/10/2018 11:21

Week 3 on elleste. My mood is definitely better. I'm more emotional, in a good way. Laughing more. Libido seems to have picked up slightly. Still having the odd hot flush but nowhere near as bad.

The first lot of.pills are just oestrogen - I start the ones with progesterone in on Monday and am nervous as a lot of reports say they negatively affect mood

Thank you so much for starting this thread OP and to everyone who contributed to it. It really helps. I think I'm slipping into peri menopause have been getting brain fog and periods are changing after being like clockwork all my life. I'm madly taking notes on all the remedies!

And Flowers for people plunged into menopause so suddenly, especially younger women.

HalloumiGus · 06/10/2018 12:00

I actually put flowers into last post not gin but fuck it, gin all round too!

dahliaaa · 06/10/2018 12:12

Hi everyone - I’ve just got my period on day 15. Anyone else had them every two weeks (I’m 48.) ?Envy
Already taking iron supplements because of heavy periods.

MichelleC69 · 06/10/2018 18:39

Yes - I had that, and it's what prompted me to go to the doctor's. Go and get a blood test.

dahliaaa · 06/10/2018 23:17

Thanks Michelle - I recently had scans etc because of very long and heavy periods and all was fine (I bled for 9 weeks at the start of the year!) . Guess this just be another stage of perimenopause.

MichelleC69 · 07/10/2018 19:41

I seem to have skipped peri and gone straight into full menopause. 18mnths ago I had blood tests and all was normal. Last week I was told I was well into menopause! Don't know if this is unusual

dahliaaa · 07/10/2018 19:49

Michelle I think the blood tests are now classed as unreliable so that is probably quite common.
