To wonder how many of your children sleep with day clothes on?

I’ll admit sometimes DD 3 will be put to bed in her day clothes if she’s had a new set on not long before bed and we’ve gone out, I’ll leave her asleep rather than wake her. Is it really that terrible? If they’re clean and comfy then surely it’s ok? I know it’s not “proper” just wondered how many of you do the same sometimes ?

Never done this. But I'd just wiggle them out of their clothes and Ieave them in vest and pants when they were young, so not that different. No way was I wrestling them into pyjamas if they were already sleeping!

I'd feel yuk wearing clothes to bed so I think I just assumed my DC would too. But I bet they wouldn't have cared or even noticed!

Strokethefurrywall · 13/09/2018 22:59

Last week DS1 (nearly 7) started getting changed back into a new set of school uniform (presumably he was excited about starting school again), one night I left him in it.

Woke up the next morning et voila! He was ready to go! It's just clothes, I don't see a problem with it.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/09/2018 22:59

Don’t they have baths?

AnnieAnoniMoose · 13/09/2018 23:00

Grim? Why?

If the clothes are comfortable it makes no difference whether they’re ‘day clothes’ or ‘night clothes’ .

Sweetcherryblossom · 13/09/2018 23:00

18 month old gets changed for bed because she's a toddler and gets filthy during the day. My 3 month old gets put to bed in her day clothes. Wouldn't have done that with my first but had more time then and I was more particular about everything.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/09/2018 23:00

He wore them to school, Stroke?! That’s minging.

Growingboys · 13/09/2018 23:00

Never done it.

Creeper8 · 13/09/2018 23:01

was a thread on nm years ago about going to bed in school uniform so could sleep in longer. I remember that, very tempting, mine are a pita to dress in the mornings!

ToeToToe · 13/09/2018 23:01

No, I've never done this, even when dc has gone to sleep in the car on the way home at bedtime - we would always (v carefully) put them in their pyjamas and put them to bed.

I just have this feeling that day clothes are uncomfortable for bed. Mine often change into pjs when they back back from school though - if they know they're going out again.

Strokethefurrywall · 13/09/2018 23:04

Pffft, why is it minging? What an overly dramatic response. He was clean when he put them on, slept for 9 hours, then woke up and wore them to school.

Of all the things I need to worry about with my kids, the wearing of a clean school uniform the night before, is the absolute least of them. In fact I was grateful it saved time in the morning

PurpleCrowbar · 13/09/2018 23:04

2/3 last night.

I went to bed early, leaving ds (14) to wait up for dd2 (10) to get in from football practice.

He was supposed to nag her about pjs & teeth, & sort himself out.

I woke up at 6am to discover one kid sprawled on bed in full uniform, the other in football strip.

Dd1 had changed into tshirt & leggings after school, then at least removed them & slept in knickers.

Everyone into shower, clothes in wash, fresh stuff on, no one died.

I routinely at weekends swim in the afternoon then shower, & spend the evening & overnight mooching around the house in tshirt & scruffy leggings or shorts, just removing the bottoms to sleep in tshirt & pants - kids do likewise.

I'd draw a line at carrying on next day in whatever you slept in. Well, at least if leaving the house.

LanaorAna2 · 13/09/2018 23:04

Night clothes get you into the snuggly sleep vibe, so no, but only for that reason - if DC and clothes are clean, why not.

Sleep trumps prissy every time.

Fucksgiven · 13/09/2018 23:06

Might as well sort clothes whilst cleaning teeth. I assume you don't let your child go to bed without cleaning teeth

powerwalk · 13/09/2018 23:06

No I have never done this, and I couldn’t unless it was an emergency. Nothing wrong with it, just a personal thing.

A friend of mine puts both children to be in their school uniform every night to shave 5 mins off the morning routine. I really can’t thInk how they can possibly relax but it works for her

dinosaurkisses · 13/09/2018 23:07

The school uniform thing is a bit grim.

If anyone started a thread on here about sharing a desk with someone who came into work wearing crumpled clothes and they admitted that they slept in them, there would be immediate responses telling the OP to report to hr or management etc, or the usual mn mental health diagnoses.

MarthasGinYard · 13/09/2018 23:08

Always reminds me of reading about the Philpott fire. Most of those kids had uniform on Sad

powerwalk · 13/09/2018 23:11

Thinking about it little Dd has been through stages though after bath and in her pjs she has crept out of bed and put in full on princess dresses, Tutus, Halloween outfits and gymnastic leotards, not to mention bobble hats, mittens and a light up dress.

So the honest answer is not intentionally but with varying success ❤️

bluesky45 · 13/09/2018 23:13

My 1 year old usually sleeps in just a vest. If he's managed to keep it clean then I will put him to bed in the vest he wore during the day. But it was under his clothes in the day time. He has his nappy changed and teeth brushed but if it's clean I would literally be changing one vest for another. He has a drawer full of them and I pick any random one to go either under day clothes when it's cool or as his night clothes (under a sleeping bag). When it gets cold then I will change him into a babygrow at night and when it was hot he didn't have a vest on anyway in the day so had a clean one for bed then. Just depends on what he's been wearing, needs to be wearing and how clean he has managed to stay! Will reassess when he wears proper pjs though!

ToeToToe · 13/09/2018 23:18

No, I can't get my head around the going to bed in tomorrow's uniform thing at all.

You sleep in comfortable night clothes, you sweat a lot at night - even children - I can't imagine just getting up in the clothes you've slept in, and going to school. Just no.

victoriaspongecake · 13/09/2018 23:21

No. Its skanky.
My children always had a bath every night and clean night clothes.

GuavaPalava · 13/09/2018 23:23

Never. It's horrible. It's very basic parenting to put your child in pyjamas after a bath. I'd feel totally weird if I knew my kids were in clothes that either wore that day or would be wearing the following day. Just no

Fatted · 13/09/2018 23:23

When they were babies and spent all day in baby grows and Pj's any way then yes we did.

Now they always get changed into Pj's before bed. Although we've been known to still be in same Pj's until well into the afternoon of the following day if a lazy weekend or school holiday!

hobblesma · 13/09/2018 23:26

think getting changed into bedtime clothes is pretty basic parenting rather than perfect parenting actually.

With 2 autistic children you 'basic parenting' takes on a different level. Going to bed in clothes is nothing. Literally nothing.

hobblesma · 13/09/2018 23:28

It's very basic parenting to put your child in pyjamas after a bath

Indeed. But we don't all bath at night, do we?

ToeToToe · 13/09/2018 23:30

Autistic children is something else Thanks Most of us know what you go through.

For everyone else - just no.
