To wonder how many of your children sleep with day clothes on?

I’ll admit sometimes DD 3 will be put to bed in her day clothes if she’s had a new set on not long before bed and we’ve gone out, I’ll leave her asleep rather than wake her. Is it really that terrible? If they’re clean and comfy then surely it’s ok? I know it’s not “proper” just wondered how many of you do the same sometimes ?

Teeth cleaning is a separate issue in this house.

crumpet · 13/09/2018 22:38

Now this takes me back. Way way back in the early days there was a mnetter who used to put the children to bed in their school clothes ready for the next morning.

TheSheepofWallSt · 13/09/2018 22:38

When he was a tiny baby? If he’d had a fresh babygro in the afternoon and had managed to stay clean- often.

Since he was crawling? Never. He’s a grub.

He’s 2, and I DO still put him in a clean long sleeved vest after his bath at night, which he wears for nursery the next day. Saves about 3 precious minutes in the morning.

@crumpet

I wonder if I’m at the thin end of the wedge...

Cachailleacha · 13/09/2018 22:39

Mine used to go to bed in clean uniform in the winter (unheated house, single digits Celsius). Uniform was polo and trackpants, not formal uniform.

Clean and comfy is the only rule here.

I sometimes do what you described. Blush

CookPassBabtridge · 13/09/2018 22:40

Definitely, if they're clean and comfy then I don't both putting his pjs on.

DaisyChops · 13/09/2018 22:42

My DTs nearly always go to sleep in their clothes unless they've had a bath, if the clothes are clean and comfy I don't really see the issue and it saves me washing 2 more sets of pj's.

My singletons never did this and I must admit I'm trying to get DT's in a bedtime routine at the moment which involves pj's but some days it's just easier to let them fall asleep as they are 😴

Rebecca36 · 13/09/2018 22:43

When I'd been out somewhere and came back in the evening, if son was fast asleep I'd put him to bed in his t-shirt and pants but take trousers or shorts off. That's quite a normal thing to do in those circumstances, no point in waking for wash, teeth clean and pyjamas and having grizly tired child.

Other than that, no, I wouldn't.

I generally go to bed in nightie or pjs but if I've fallen asleep on sofa, half wake and stagger upstairs, I've slept in just my pants and top - again because going through the usual nightly ritual would wake me right up. It doesn't hurt to do that occasionally. Always have a wee of course but I can do that half asleep, son was the same.

SheepyFun · 13/09/2018 22:43

If DD is really tired, then changing is the stage we skip. She's fussy about clothes (will wear leggings or tights, but doesn't like the feel of jogging bottoms, let alone jeans) - pretty much all of them are stretchy cotton, so fine in bed. We do take her shoes off if we're transferring her from the car!

llangennith · 13/09/2018 22:46

As CrochetBelle said earlier.

Dangermouse80 · 13/09/2018 22:47

Yes, if they crash out I'm not going to wake them to change them.

My one year old naps during he day in regular clothes so can't see the harm in this.

AdoraBell · 13/09/2018 22:47

When they were small it would be if we got home very late or if they fell asleep while eating. So not very often.

Now they are late teens one of them quite frequently falls asleep in her clothes especially if she has loads of homework.

Littlechocola · 13/09/2018 22:48

None of mine ever.

formerbabe · 13/09/2018 22:49

I'm genuinely amazed so many people do this. I think it's pretty grim to be honest.

MarklahMarklah · 13/09/2018 22:49

Have done a few days in the summer (when it was too hot for PJ's & too cold for naked) where it was just wearing underwear to bed.
Unless DD was ill then I'd prefer her to change into nighclothes. Whenever she's fallen asleep dressed and I've tried to change her clothes she has woken up. That said, the last time that happened was about 3 years ago.

ExFury · 13/09/2018 22:52

DD1 id have changed as she wouldn’t stir.

DD2 didn’t sleep longer than 3 hours in one go until she was nearly 4 so if she fell asleep she stayed exactly as she was for fear of waking her. I once seriously contemplated sleeping in the car on the drive as she slept well in her car seat in clothes! X

Aww bless you. How perfect.

Moominfan · 13/09/2018 22:53

Nope he's 20months and usually filthy . Do put him in same pjs for a few days.

Beautifulsunshine · 13/09/2018 22:54

No issue at all. It’s just clothes. I can’t really tell the difference half the time between leggings and pjs. I would take of jeans or anything uncomfortable if I could but would not consider waking a sleeping child. If we come back late from somewhere I usually plan for pjs but they seem to think sleeping in day time clothes is a treat. It they go to sleep I don’t care what they wear!

MrsBungle · 13/09/2018 22:55

I’ve never done this, wouldn’t cross my mind! I’d get them in to pjs or, at least, get them down to their underwear to go to
Sleep for the night.

Why? Clothes are clothes, as long as they are clean and comfortable what is the problem?

GhostPerfume · 13/09/2018 22:57

was a thread on nm years ago about going to bed in school uniform so could sleep in longer.

I think getting changed into bedtime clothes is pretty basic parenting rather than perfect parenting actually.
