... to ask how much money you had saved by age 30?

Just that really. Turned 30 last month and feeling a bit crap about the amount of money I have in savings (around £3k). Is this normal? I only started properly saving recently (when I had a sudden "I'm 30 soon and I have no savings!" panic). I'd had a big saved before but dipped into it regularly for treats! I don't know why this has suddenly struck me - I think because I'm no longer "in my 20s" I feel like I should suddenly act like a proper grown up! Curious to sort of gage my situation (as well as hoping for reassurance - or worst case scenario to find out I'm dramatically behind most people which will hopefully give me some motivation!) Thank you! Flowers

I'm 29 and have around 8k in savings. Also have a mortgage (joint with DP) and a car but I bought that outright.

We live in an exceptionally cheap area though!

I had none. Well...£200 of premium bonds.

@crazycatlady5 yes, I think this is right. Along with upbringing/attitude to saving because some people on here have shown that even with low salaries, savings are possible for some people. My mum was always in debt, I followed suit and spent a lot of my 20s in debt. I also had DS young (just turned 19) so that was the decade in which I had to save a deposit for a mortgage whilst paying for childcare simultaneously (thankfully the end is nearly in sight!).

Not sure how much savings I had but I had bought my first flat in London (with no help) and paid it off by then. I wasn't earning masses but just rented in a room in cheap areas to save for 5% deposit then bought cheap Victorian flat (in the days you could get a flat cheapily) rented a room of it out and paid off mortgage. But it was easier then you didn't pay for university and house prices were low. Though lots of friends ended up 30 with no savings as lived in expensive flats, house prices started rocketing and they couldn't get on the ladder.

Um.... none!
I’m 38 now, a homeowner through marriage, and I have..... none!

Can barely make our money stretch to each pay day, never mind saving anything.
