Mother and baby parking

Went to the supermarket today with my baby and really could’ve used the mother and baby space to get my car seat in and out etc (especially hard as I have a 2 door car). Just as I arrived a woman without a baby pulled into the mother and baby spot, without a baby. My mother asked her what she was doing and she said she was waiting for a child. 2 mins later a middle aged woman came out of the supermarket and got into the car and she started to drive off. So she had lied. I said thanks to her in a sarcastic way as i was struggling to get my baby out in a tight space (very passive aggressive of me I know but DS hates the car and had been screaming and I was so irritated by not having the space) and she started spouting off about being heavily pregnant and blah blah blah. Which was all completely irrevelant (if even true) because she didn’t get out of the bloody car anyway!

AIBU to think the mother and baby space isn’t somewhere to just wait for a mate to come and join you in the car? People genuinely need the extra space provided by them!

I don't think the OP was unreasonable to ask. It can be done politely rather than accusingly, mentioning you'll struggle to get the buggy out.

That said, I hate self-appointed vigilantes. One of the towns near me has a big row of disabled spaces (like a lay by) I had a bang on my window for quite obviously having pulled over to answer my phone - there were at least 4-5 other free spaces as not one car was parked there at the time. I initially gestured 'two moments' but he kept tapping on my window. I told him to fuck off in the end.

AllDayBreakfast · 12/09/2018 15:33

I imagine she was thinking that you were a bit mad to be asking her that.

You think I should fork out several hundred quid each time somebody bashes my door? It's no different from somebody taking off your wing mirror. It's not cheap to get the colour matched and dent removed.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/09/2018 15:44

See how you can say there's alexcepyions to the rule. Not sure how you can argue there is one. It's says so on the sign!!!

That's what you said Frazzle. Having a life or not.

I think asking a woman for her kids insurance details as if he was a car is pretty nuts, and I'm sure you know that.
Where are you parking it to get so much damage?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/09/2018 15:54

AllDayBreakfast you parked in a disabled bay to answer your phone then told someone to fuck off because he knocked on your window? Is that right?

Claw001 · 12/09/2018 16:02

According to alldaybreakfast People parked in P&C should be challenged.

However its not ok for someone to challenge you when parked in a disabled space without a BB and you should tell them to fuck off.

Hmm
AllDayBreakfast · 12/09/2018 16:13

Are you serious?

She let her kid damage my new car son I asked for her insurance details. Letting a toddler open a door next to somebody else's car was pretty stupid and I bet she's dented loads of other people's cars already - she wasn't about to leave me a note or anything, just a few hundred quids worth of damage.

AllDayBreakfast · 12/09/2018 16:16

And yes I'll pull into a disabled bay for 20 seconds with my engine running to say "I'm on my way home now, spare key's in the shed." I wouldn't do it if there weren't another 5-6 immediately adjacent and am not about to get worked up about a victimless crime.

Claw001 · 12/09/2018 16:40

maybe the clearly annoyed man took down your registration!

Why is the number of empty spaces going up each time you post and the amount of time spent going down, from 2 mins to 20 seconds!

Not important. My point was to do with the double standards,

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/09/2018 16:40

Can't you see how hypocritical you are AllDay?

TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2 · 12/09/2018 16:41

Yes, of course I'm serious. I don't believe you are though. You do understand that children are not insured in the way that cars are, yes?

She isn't hypocritical duck. See above

Claw001 · 12/09/2018 16:49

Frazzled you are back and missing the point again!

Why is ok to challenge people parked in P&C, but not people parked in a disabled bay without a badge?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/09/2018 16:50

Oh you're back. Of course it's hypocritical to be annoyed that someone asks why you're in a disabled space without a BB but thinks it's reasonable to challenge someone parked in a P and C space.

How on earth you can't see that is beyond me. Oh wait....

Frazzledkate · 12/09/2018 16:58

We just disagree I guess. Rather strongly!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/09/2018 17:02

Of course I disagree with you.

Sirzy · 12/09/2018 17:06

It’s simple. If you don’t have a blue badge you don’t put your car in a disabled parking space.

Not to answer your phone
Not to run to the cash point
Not to nip into a shop
Not to pick someone up

Not for any reason. You have to pretty hard of thinking to not get that!

HannahHut · 12/09/2018 17:11

parking further away is what we did but you were still close enough to keep an eye on her and for her to hear you give a sarcastic 'thanks' Hmm

Frazzledkate · 12/09/2018 17:16

Iyho sirzyWink

Sirzy · 12/09/2018 17:18

Nothing to do with opinions! The spaces are not for anyone who isn’t a blue badge holder. It really is that simple!

crispysausagerolls · 12/09/2018 17:20

hannahhut

It wasn’t a large car park so yes I could still see her and she drove past to leave anyway

... Meanwhile in real life, most parents I know get very annoyed when people without young children park in P&C spaces. It's only on Mumsnet that it gets turned into some ridiculous debate. I've challenged people without kids for parking there before, and will do again. I wish more supermarkets would bring in fines for people that violate the rules.

AllDayBreakfast · 12/09/2018 20:44

Well, there's a difference between taking the only space and inconveniencing somebody (a la OP) and between taking one of several spaces for a brief moment and not inconveniencing anyone - it wasn't in a car park, it was a lay by on a high street.

I appreciate I ultimately shouldn't but if it's not hurting anyone then I just don't really give a shit tbh. The guy was a jobworth like the one the other day who told me to turn off my truck engine as it was " bad for the environment". No fucks given. I'd never have done it should there have only been one space.

Thatstheendofmytether · 12/09/2018 22:36

Jeezo is this thread still going and the same people still fighting the battle!

Why is it unreasonable to ask for someone's insurance details when their child damages your car with their car and you have caught them doing it?

^Yup without fail, every single time😂
