Mother and baby parking

Went to the supermarket today with my baby and really could’ve used the mother and baby space to get my car seat in and out etc (especially hard as I have a 2 door car). Just as I arrived a woman without a baby pulled into the mother and baby spot, without a baby. My mother asked her what she was doing and she said she was waiting for a child. 2 mins later a middle aged woman came out of the supermarket and got into the car and she started to drive off. So she had lied. I said thanks to her in a sarcastic way as i was struggling to get my baby out in a tight space (very passive aggressive of me I know but DS hates the car and had been screaming and I was so irritated by not having the space) and she started spouting off about being heavily pregnant and blah blah blah. Which was all completely irrevelant (if even true) because she didn’t get out of the bloody car anyway!

AIBU to think the mother and baby space isn’t somewhere to just wait for a mate to come and join you in the car? People genuinely need the extra space provided by them!

There seem to so many on mumsnet that claim to work with people with disabilities but want to make their lives and those of their carers, more difficult.

Sirzy · 11/09/2018 17:34

To be fair spikey some of the so called professionals I have met that doesn’t surprise me!

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 17:35

@sorry

What makes you think most people with a disability don't have a bb?

EwItsAHooman · 11/09/2018 17:39

11 million in uk with disabilities. 2.8 million with blue badges.

The facts show that MOST people with disabilities do NOT have a blue badge.

Claw001 · 11/09/2018 17:41

Sirzy and Claw - have you never had a situation where one of the disabled spaces you needed to use was being utilised by someone who didn’t need it?

My son doesn’t have a blue badge. I have never questioned anyone parking in a disabled bay. I know that some misuse does happen. 2.8 million have a badge. Approx 1,000 were prosecuted for misuse, usually stolen.

Personally with such a small minority, I’ve rather not question and leave it to the professionals!

itsalldyingout · 11/09/2018 17:42

Ballseditupforever Totally agree with you.

P&C spaces mostly can't be enforced, but disabled spaces can. What's the problem with showing a badge belongs to you to someone that asks? They're not asking you what your disability is.

I'd be a huge fan of this as it would stop a certain type of man who prides his car above all else and takes any kind of wider space in case his precious toy gets scratched.

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 17:43

@Sirzy

The woman didn't need it she didn't get out the car and the person that came to the car didn't have a child or a disability that ment they struggled to get in a car in a regular sized space.

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 17:47

Do you know what all of those disabilities are. As I'm aware you have to go through certain texmsts to see if you are entitled to a bb, why do you think so many people with disabilities don't have one?

Claw001 · 11/09/2018 17:47

The public are not the police! Are you seriously suggesting the public should be allowed to police blue badges?!

How would you know if the blue badge belonged to that person?

There is a criteria Time

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 17:50

Every thread I have ever read about people using P&C spaces turns into most people shouting that it's only ever people with disabilities that use those spaces when they don't have a bb or there's no disabled spaces free. Sorry to burst your bubble but that's not always the case.

Spikeyball · 11/09/2018 17:51

"What's the problem with showing a badge belongs to you to someone that asks?"

How about we can ask everyone we see out with a child to prove that the child is allowed to be with them. It would help prevent child abduction.

MsHopey · 11/09/2018 17:51

There is a thread about this every month and most people don't give a shit about P&C spaces which is probably why there is so much misuse.
I had someone use one next to me the other day (thankfully I had my spot) no kids and then walked in the opposite direction of the shop and wandered off somewhere other than the asda we was parked at, that was bizarre.

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 17:54

@Claw001

So what type of disability do you think wouldn't meet the criteria for a bb?

OrdinaryGirl · 11/09/2018 17:54

Bit surprised at all the responses telling you off. Hugely grinds my gears people using the P&C spaces who have no kid.

I tend to look alarmed and say to them 'OMG, you've forgotten your child!'

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 17:55

Bb are to be displayed anyway so in displaying them you are showing them to everyone.

Spikeyball · 11/09/2018 17:58

Most people with autism don't qualify for a blue badge. If you live an area where the council insisted on 8 points for moving around you wouldn't get one however severe it was.

Spikeyball · 11/09/2018 18:00

The rules are changing because someone in this situation has spent several years challenging it through the courts.

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 18:01

Really because everyone my partner worked with that had autism had a bb. He worked in all different council areas.

Timeisslippingaway · 11/09/2018 18:05

Anymore? Because I doubt that the 8 million who don't have a bb are all people with autism.

crispysausagerolls · 11/09/2018 18:06

I tend to look alarmed and say to them 'OMG, you've forgotten your child!'

Ha!!!

Autism does not give a right to a blue badge. It is on the list of disabilities that do not have automatic right. A few children get one automatically with hrm but for adults it is always discretionary which depends on where you live.

Spikeyball · 11/09/2018 18:08

Learning disability.

Claw001 · 11/09/2018 18:11

Displaying a badge is one thing, being questioned about it is quite another!
