Am I the only middle aged woman on MN with lines and wrinkles?

I don't mean to sound arsey (honestly!) but if you are over 45 and have no lines or wrinkles, this thread is not for you.

I'm always reading posts on here where people say they are, say, 50 and have no wrinkles or are regularly taken for 5, 10 or more years younger.

Am I the only one who does have lines and wrinkles? My facial lines are similar to say, Naomi Watts in this photo - but without the beauty.

With Undercoverbanana, grey, scraggy neck, hair, fairly fit, can't abide makeup, chest is improving, rest going south!

Dungeondragon15 · 10/09/2018 13:34

I don't have many wrinkles but I don't think I look much younger. I take those comments with a pinch of salt as I have a couple of friends who think they look much younger than they are but they really don't!

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 10/09/2018 13:39

I have loads round my eyes. I feel I have earned them with 20+ years of drinking like a sailor and smoking like a chimney.
I am dreading the saggy face thing though and will start wearing a very tight pony tail when that happens.
Naomi Watts is Gorge isn't she? Wrinkles just make her look even more lovely. Cah.

59 here, with a face like a collapsed souffle. It still comes as a bit of a shock when I look in the mirror - but it's my face and I'm quite fond of it. I have no plans to alter it in any way, and it looks a lot better when I smile, so I try to do that a lot. Doesn't bother me if other people want to go for the Botox/cosmetic surgery options - their faces, their choices. It's just not something that interests me, really.

  1. Deep forehead wrinkles. Not opposed to Botox Grin
MorningsEleven · 10/09/2018 13:45

I've got wrinkles. They're character. Look at Judi Dench, most amazing and natural face

PlatypusPie · 10/09/2018 13:47

Luck and genetics - I put a basic moisturiser on in the morning because otherwise my skin feels as tight as a drum and , err, that’s it. Cannot take any credit for it. Also have never smoked and don’t like sunbathing but honestly, the reason for my less wrinkled than expected for my age skin is there to see in photos at all ages of my mum and grandmother, who never used anything more exotic than soap and water and that thick Nivea cream in the blue pots ( the smell of summer to me).

I don’t think I look younger than my age, though, and have no particular wish to do so. It’s not just skin that shows age - my lips are thinner and my mouth turns down to give a resting bitch face that wasn’t there before and though there are less wrinkles than most, the cheeks are less padded and the hollows deepened, the eyes becoming more hooded.

I have a friend , 55, who is convinced she is always being taken for a 35 year old- she’s attractive but she really doesn’t look two decades younger.

Rebecca36 · 10/09/2018 14:05

You definitely are the only one with lines and wrinkles. Everyone else on Mumsnet has smooth peachy skin, glossy hair with hardly any grey and a perfect figure.

Get real :-). I'm sure you're lovely, a few superficial lines are nothing.

Clionba · 10/09/2018 14:09

Even a couple of people on this thread, Rebecca claim not to look their age! Grin

Gottagetmoving · 10/09/2018 14:09

I didn't have many lines or wrinkles before menopause but after I stopped taking hrt.... they just appeared too quickly! Saggy too!
I have a friend who is 58.... she looks about 40. She is vegetarian so maybe that has something to do with it.

bangourvillagebesttimeever · 10/09/2018 14:18

Well after a friend sent a group message inviting us all to her salon to meet someone who can do fillers and Botox the message was clear 😂 At 48 I look like my skin is pulling away from the skeleton. I have lines and I am saggy at the corners of the mouth. Neck doesn’t have the big line yet but I am waiting. I won’t be having Botox as I just know I will be the one that ends up getting palsy. My OH thinks I look great but thinks I should get work done on my teeth.....my view is it is all part of ageing and it is what it is. I keep in shape and use creams and don’t feel that I look ancient or younger....

babswindsor · 10/09/2018 14:20

I'm over 60 and it's a fact that the worse my eyesight gets, the better I look in the mirror. So long as I never look at my reflection while wearing glasses, I look bloody gorgeous.

Boredisboring · 10/09/2018 14:29

46, stringy neck, cats-bum mouth and I still get acne. Where's the upside?

bluetongue · 10/09/2018 14:30

I’m 42 and thanks to oily skin and staying out of the sun my skin isn’t too bad. To my horror though I have pimples still. This wasn’t meant to still be a problem at my age and yes, I am going to do something about it soon.

My problems are the furrows between my eyebrows which I’ve had for years (I put it down to being a worrier) and a kind of double chin / mild droopy jowel combo. Delightful! If I’m being honest I wouldn’t mind doing something about the between eyebrow lines even though in general I’m not a fan of Botox and fillers.

VickyMcQueen · 10/09/2018 14:37

I’m 51 and look it apart from my forehead. It really doesn’t move. I can’t make it wrinkle however hard a frown/try to look shocked.

For this reason I have stopped wearing a fringe over the last year. I figure it’s madness to cover up the youngest looking bit of me!

Gottagetmoving · 10/09/2018 14:41

Me too! Never look in a mirror with your glasses on....

Fatted · 10/09/2018 14:42

I'm a bit younger. I don't really have wrinkles. They may well come with time. But I do still look like a bag of shite with no make up. I've got really bad dark circles and pale skin along with random red patches. So yeah, no wrinkles doesn't mean much.

Gottagetmoving · 10/09/2018 14:42

My mother used to tell me I would look miserable all the time when I got older if I didn't smile more....she was right. People often ask me if I'm annoyed! .....or tired...

Apileofballyhoo · 10/09/2018 14:43

I don't really mind looking my age but looking way older than my age is a bigger. My DSis is 6 years older than me and someone asked us recently who was older... We are in our 40s now but I was one of those people who looked 5 years younger up until my life got really shit I suppose! So I've added on 15 years to how I did look 5 years ago. I'm hoping it balances out eventually as I've started trying to take care of myself a bit better.

MirandaWest · 10/09/2018 14:44

I’m not sure whether I’m Middle Aged (according to my DC I am Grin) but am 43 and definitely have wrinkles. Is just what happens when you get older or that’s how I see it anyway.

desertmum · 10/09/2018 14:54

Bananafish I've had a touch of botox too and while my forehead tramlines are still noticeable they are smaller and I look less tired as it's lifted my brows and eyelids a bit. Get a few 'you look well' comments, rather than 'aren't you sleeping very well!'.

Always said I wouldn't do it and then I looked in the mirror and thought shit I look haggard and then I had to get hearing aids. Had a bit of botox to cheer me up Grin

CrossFlannelCherry · 10/09/2018 14:56

When people on here say they are 45+ and have no wrinkles I always assume they've had work done or they're overweight. I have lines on my forehead, laughter lines around my eyes and creases either side of my nose to my mouth yet I often get told I look much younger than my 55 years so I don't think lines necessarily make you look older. I quite like my ageing face. I was always quite baby faced, so I'm enjoying seeing a bit of character develop in my more senior years.

I stopped wearing contacts in my late 30s. One reason I won’t try them again is that I have no wish to know how old I really look!

enbh · 10/09/2018 15:08

I'm 34 and have had frown lines since I was in my early 20s due to squinting and not getting glasses when I needed them!! They have got progressively worse over the years but funnily enough I've just put quite a bit of weight on after having DD and they don't seem quite as noticeable.

As I once heard Eamonn Holmes say - there are no wrinkles on a balloon!

groundcontroltomontydon · 10/09/2018 15:16

I'm late 40s and my face looks like an angry poached egg. I only use mirrors to check my teeth for food.
