I did think he was a hanger on when Take That reformed.

He left them high and dry back in the mid/90s shortly before they split up. He then went in to have a few solo hits during the late 90s/early 00s then the hits dried up (think RudeBox Hmm)

I remember watching the reunion between the other 4 take that members on tv and they hadn't seen each other for years. They had all been through tough times since their split and never managed to revive any real sort of career. Robbie was so arrogant he didn't show up despite being invited because it was almost as though he thought he was way above these 4 desperate ex pop stars.

Then the foursome released their greatest hits and went on to release a new album to great success. They revived themselves without Robbie and became successful again, then all of a sudden Robbie (who hadn't had a hit for years) jumped on their success bandwagon and it all became about "Robbie " and how great it was he came back for an album. Confused

Now Robbie is sat on the X factor panel when it should be Gary again because Robbie had done nothing but jump on other people's success and songs!

Sadly RW was only RW when he was working with Guy Chambers.

Ever since, he's just been a PITA.

CoughLaughFart · 09/09/2018 10:42

He and the duck-billed platypus are turning The X-Factor into one long ‘isn’t Robbie amazing?’ show. I cringed when he asked a transgender singer his birth name last night - who does that to someone on TV in front of an audience of thousands?

GunpowderGelatine · 09/09/2018 10:44

YANBU. His comments about his wife giving birth and his snap chats of him dancing while she had contractions were pegged as 'hilarious' when actually he's just a total smug wanker. He also told a 'hilarious' story on Graham Norton about a cleaner giving him a hand job and everyone thought she as lying about it. If he was a woman he'd have been put out to pasture long ago.

What I don't understand is his wife's credentials are that she has steered every part of his career for the last 12 years ( just read two separate magazine articles where she says this) and mentions the 5 albums involved. He used to be everywhere Angels etc but I haven't heard of any of these literally and I read Heat magazine !

nokidshere · 09/09/2018 10:46

His question was probably inappropriate but to be fair why did we even need to know that he was transgender at all? It was completely unnecessary, just another sob story.

CiderBrains · 09/09/2018 10:49

Who is that lady sat next to Robbie?

Fraying · 09/09/2018 10:50

I like Robbie.I think there's an honesty about him that's lacking in some of the other pop stars with 'perfect' images. I'd much rather watch him than Mark cheated on his wife Owens.

It's funny the hand sanitiser story is still going around. They mentioned in his biography that he actually did an elaborate joke with the hand sanitiser (ie taking the piss out of himself for being precious) but the camera cuts meant the joke was missed. He was bemused that it was discussed as though he wasn't aware of the camera. He's been aware of the cameras since he was 16 Grin

PollyFlinderz · 09/09/2018 10:58

He is deffo gay so not sure whats going on with him having a wife.

Bisexual?

Galvantula · 09/09/2018 10:59

YANBU. Complete tool.

Never could stand him. Or understand the attraction!

explodingid · 09/09/2018 11:04

Norman Wisdom crossed with Freddie Star. An odd bloke.

Grin 100% true!

pictish · 09/09/2018 11:06

‘Angels’ is the most annoying song of the last 30 years and God knows there have been some honkers.
As soon as the opening strains start, off it goes. Fuck sake, shut up.

CoughLaughFart · 09/09/2018 11:08

isn’t that what at least 50% of the threads in AIBU do?

Yes - but some people love to be pious about it.

MorningsEleven · 09/09/2018 11:12

He's a knobhead. And last night was just more proof.

50Running50 · 09/09/2018 11:25

pictish

Who is your preferred entertainer?

ArsenalsPlayingAtHome · 09/09/2018 11:31

pictish yes!

It's all the more annoying because he takes himself so seriously when he's singing it!

At least "The Cheeky Girls" knew their song was shit, and had the good grace not to take themselves seriously.

There was a big old kerfuffle a few years ago about Angels - some bloke claimed that RW had basically knicked it off him. Wonder how that panned out?

TSSDNCOP · 09/09/2018 11:31

I’ve written this before I think.

I saw him with older TT at the Wembley concert following the release of Progress.

That’s what 80k people?

We were all having a very nice, predictable, dance-along time as TT opened the show.

Then Rob came on, and the place went completely, utterly, absolutely ballistic. He blew the doors off.

“Minor pop star”? To you, maybe. Not to his millions of fans that might agree he’s OTT, but will always forgive him just for Angels.

And, seriously are we approving of any utterance from our kid Gallagher on anyone else’s behaviour? Even his own brother and kids think he’s a cock.

pictish · 09/09/2018 11:34

I don’t have a preferred entertainer. My taste in music/entertainment varies widely, is totally eclectic and depends on mood and purpose. It couldn’t possibly be pinned down to a single genre, artist, band or even a handful of any of those...so it’s impossible to say.

pictish · 09/09/2018 11:45

I mean, the amount of artists and bands I have purchased the music of, at the age of 43, runs into the hundreds by now...and they come in and out of favour with the tides.
Why do you ask?

treaclesoda · 09/09/2018 11:52

@pictish I am in total agreement about Angels, I hate it too.

Do you by any chance also hate John Lennon's Imagine? Because I do, and I always think they are quite similar songs in the sense of being labelled as songs everyone loves.

LondonElle · 09/09/2018 11:56

Ive never liked him since watching him on a new year show a couple ago and he was anti- baccing his hands after touching the general public... he didn’t even try to hide it.... went right off him after that!!

PinkSquash · 09/09/2018 11:56

I liked RW on the 'My Culture' track by one giant leap

pictish · 09/09/2018 11:59

I quite like Imagine...but I can see what you mean. It’s that overblown and over-rated element of its popularity that turns you off.
I think it’s a nostalgic ‘like’ for me, rather than rating it as a triumph of song writing prowess, as I remember my mum (who has since died) being a John Lennon fan when I was a little one. If it came on the radio I’d hum along to it, as opposed to bloody Angels which gets cut off before it even starts.
