When you get seaweed from the chinese...

It isn't seaweed.

It's CABBAGE!!!

Must have had it over 100 times from the chinese and I never knew.

I can't have been the only one?!

Confusedbeetle · 08/09/2018 17:57

Busy Barbara, yes peas have green colour, Fresh peas are more grey green

Wauden · 08/09/2018 20:22

Try Japanese foods which have real seaweed in them

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 08/09/2018 23:51

My dad said shooketh when I was young. That definitely predates YouTube.

Also, rarebit is just a version of rabbit. It probably was called rabbit originally.

MarcieBluebell · 08/09/2018 23:58

No wayyyyyy.

I am going to have to tell my family tomorrow.

AviatorShades · 09/09/2018 00:45

In our chinese years ago my boyfriend told me that pork balls were, well, pork balls. And I believed himGrin
Never knew that chinese seaweed was cabbage either.
BUT they really did dye peas in america years ago.. Swear, they were damned near luminous. Scary.

MarcieBluebell · 09/09/2018 00:53

*Avaitor I'm a celeb is missing a trick.

But what about prawn balls.

gluteustothemaximus · 09/09/2018 00:57

What???? Nooooooooo!!!!

Brand. New. Information.

DH and I thought it was seaweed.

I too am shooketh.

m0therofdragons · 09/09/2018 01:00

All the Chinese seaweed I've ever had has been Kale. My dc loves it so then happily tried kale steamed and 2 out of 3 love that.

DontDeadOpenInside · 09/09/2018 01:02

What! I did not know this either! But then I only found out in the last month that pickled gherkins were in fact cucumbers. I felt like a real dunce aswell as it blatantly says what they are in the jar. My brain must have been ignoring it. Shooketh. Grin

DontDeadOpenInside · 09/09/2018 01:04

on the jar not in the jar

Italiangreyhound · 09/09/2018 01:40

I knew, but it is lovely. On a recent trip abroad I got seaweed from a restaurant and it was real seaweed! And I prefer the cabbage/spring greens they usually use.

TheDarkPassenger · 09/09/2018 01:54

We use dulse at work- it’s verrrry different to ‘crispy seaweed’ it’s actually kind of minging, be greatful for the cabbage!

Birdsgottafly · 09/09/2018 02:00

I found this out when I ordered 'seaweed' and it was sugar coated cabbage.

I wouldn't mind cabbage, but I hate it coated in sugar.

WashedUpCelebrity · 09/09/2018 02:08

I'm confused. What's wrong with actual seaweed? I LOVE real seaweed.

Murine · 09/09/2018 06:40

I had no idea!

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 09/09/2018 07:05

I buy the packets of crispy kale and bake them with a touch of oil, sugar, salt and balsamic. You do need to turn them but is very popular here except with dh, but then he doesn't like seaweed either. Hadn't thought to put it in lunch boxes though. The dc will be happy though I would need to cook two batches so there is one to eat fresh.

Destinysdaughter · 09/09/2018 07:19

I’ve cooked kale in oven with chilli flakes, garlic salt and oil and it tastes just like seaweed, yum!

strawberrisc · 09/09/2018 07:25

I make it all the time at home. Curly Kale in chilli oil, salt and a tiny bit of sugar.

Soontobe60 · 09/09/2018 07:49

I've got a tube of wasabi in the fridge, I'm going to check the ingredients list RIgHt NOW!

ifcatscouldtalk · 09/09/2018 07:51

I didn't know either Blush.
I just turned to dh in bed and told him the seaweed is cabbage news , and he replied "You're dreaming again." Grin.

DameSquashalot · 09/09/2018 08:22

I also thought it was kale. I prefer Krispy kale without the sugar.
