When you get seaweed from the chinese...

It isn't seaweed.

It's CABBAGE!!!

Must have had it over 100 times from the chinese and I never knew.

I can't have been the only one?!

Oh wow. I didn't know that. Have always struggled to eat it as would imagine it mangled between someone's toes while paddling in Blackpool.

UpstartCrow · 05/09/2018 19:41

I knew that, seaweed is expensive and cabbage is cheap, and tastes of cabbage.

Edible seaweed is farmed in clean seawater, not just randomly picked up off the beach.

Randomusername01 · 05/09/2018 19:41

I too am shooketh. And feeling tricked. I love 'seaweed' but i hate cabbage🤢

serbska · 05/09/2018 19:41

I sounds out, age 17 at boarding school. My Chinese roomie asked me if I wanted some seaweed.

Oh yes, I love that.

BLEAIGH WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SALTY FISHY GROSS THING?

Turns out real seaweed isn’t as nice as deep fried sugar dusted cabbage.

Gardenpicnic · 05/09/2018 19:44

Mind. Blown.

Shock
Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/09/2018 19:46

Why do they call it seaweed then? It’s mid-selling

They sell "prawn balls" too at mine - and last time I looked prawns don't have any Confused

Basta · 05/09/2018 19:46

Because. It's. Cabbage. Do you think peas are dyed as well?

Frozen peas are dyed. As are mushy peas.

ALemonyPea · 05/09/2018 19:47

We had this at a Chinese restaurant a few weeks ago. DH wasn’t having it that it was cabbage, even asked the waitress.

Petalflowers · 05/09/2018 19:51

I thought it was seaweed also! Why do they call it seaweed then?

incywincybitofa · 05/09/2018 19:51

I've known since I bought my first Ken Hom cookbook as a teenager

MyCatIsBonkers · 05/09/2018 19:51

Icecream is made with seaweed.

MorningsEleven · 05/09/2018 19:52

They sell "prawn balls" too at mine - and last time I looked prawns don't have any 😂

I used to live with a bloke who believed prawns aren't animals because they don't have ears!

WrongKindOfFace · 05/09/2018 19:53

Frozen peas aren’t dyed.

KittyB52 · 05/09/2018 19:53

Lovely Savoy cabbage, fried and sprinkled with sugar and salt.

NashvilleQueen · 05/09/2018 19:55

I did think it was kale actually

WatchOutForTheCar · 05/09/2018 19:55

Peas are not dyed
😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2018 19:55

Lava bread is a sloppy seaweed dish in wales. Acquired taste.

Theimpossiblegirl · 05/09/2018 19:56

I always thought it was kale.

Shooketh is even worse than shook though. And don't get me started on woke...

EsmesBees · 05/09/2018 19:57

Didn't know this either. It's thinner than cabbage though?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/09/2018 19:57

Surely - that's illegal? they're selling a lie!

I'll bet the 100 year-old eggs are only about 57 as well . . . .

WindyWednesday · 05/09/2018 19:57

Now I want Chinese

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 05/09/2018 19:58

I didnt know that Shock seaweed on a menu would be seaweed to me not cabbage

Nanny0gg · 05/09/2018 19:59

i knew.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/09/2018 19:59

Hmm, lavabread is pretty nice. It's not bread though.

ThisIsTheNational · 05/09/2018 19:59

I think it is sometimes kale. It is at our local Chinese anyway. We’ve made it at home too baked in the oven not deep fried, and it is still great.
