What age do you think daughter should stop sharing bed with father?

What's the consensus? my ex still shares bed with our DD when she stays over, i do not have any concerns something irregular going on but I do think there is an age when this is no longer appropriate. What age do you think it should stop so I can get an idea on consensus?

As in she doesn't ever sleep on her own? Does she have a room/ bed of her own?

PurpleDaisies · 02/09/2018 20:21

I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules. It becomes inappropriate when she doesn’t want to share a bed with her parent any more.

LuckyDiamond · 02/09/2018 20:22

If the child is happy to then no issue. Does she sometimes share with you?

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 02/09/2018 20:22

It becomes inappropriate when your dd doesn’t want to anymore really. It’s one of thee things there isn’t a definitive age on.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/09/2018 20:22

I’m not entirely sure it’s appropriate for them to be sharing a bed at all tbh.
Surely dd has her own space/bed when she stays?
I’m certainly not suggesting anything untoward but kids need privacy as much as adults

BeefyCakes · 02/09/2018 20:22

There is no consensus, however it'll be the age she feels uncomfortable doing it.

user1493413286 · 02/09/2018 20:23

When she doesn’t want to really; the hard part is her being able to tell a parent as she may feel bad so maybe 11/12/13 the parent should take the initiative of stopping

H1dingInSight · 02/09/2018 20:24

I have three DSs, aged 10, 8 and 6. They all still fight over who has the privilege of sharing with me when we go on holiday.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/09/2018 20:24

11,12,13?!?! Are you joking here?!

JennyOnAPlate · 02/09/2018 20:25

It becomes inappropriate as soon as dd isn't happy about it.

Mrsmadevans · 02/09/2018 20:26

Totally up to the child.

Cath2907 · 02/09/2018 20:26

My DD is nearly 8 and would share the bed with me or her Dad every night if allowed. As it is she gets the big bed with Daddy on a Thursday and with Mummy on a Friday. When she stops requesting big bed night we’ll stop doing it.

Randomusername01 · 02/09/2018 20:26

Other way round here but my oldest ds still sometimes (very rarely now) crawls into my bed. Usually when he's ill/hungover and feeling sorry for himself. It's quite nice to know that my first born baby still needs cuddles from his mum.

Secretsquirrel101 · 02/09/2018 20:27

Whenever she feels uncomfortable to do so. I'd argue it's not really your place to police that at all tho, after all, he's her parent as much as you are.

refusetobeasheep · 02/09/2018 20:27

with me she has her own room, always goes to sleep there but often joins me in the night. with her father although there is an extra room he's never made it hers, they just share. she is perfectly happy to at present. i guess i think is ok until she wants differently too, but i do know i tend to react late to things so want to check!!

OP, would suggest you turn the question round and ask yourself, when is it right for your DD to stop sharing a bed with you?

Not trying to goad but if you honestly don’t think anything irregular is/would go on then the question is equal to both mothers and fathers, with either a DD or DS.

I don’t know the answer - I would share a bed with my mum and I’m 30!

happinessischocolate · 02/09/2018 20:29

My step daughter used to insist her dad slept with her when she stayed over and she was 10/11 when we split. My ds has shared with my ex when staying over but now prefers the sofa he's 14

Aa others have said whenever your dd wants to stop

Hayles88 · 02/09/2018 20:29

My youngest is 10 and often shares my bed. I think its up to the child, if they want to then fine whatever the age.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/09/2018 20:29

But is it up to the child if that is the arrangement ?
It’s one thing a child choosing to come in for cuddles when they want and another where they are expected to sleep with a parent and might find it hard to express why they wouldn’t or indeed have any understanding of what it’s like to have a room of their own

KitKat1985 · 02/09/2018 20:29

How old is she now?

Personally I think at around 8ish it gets a bit odd and inappropriate.

HelloToYou · 02/09/2018 20:30

At least he has a room for her when she wants it.

How old is she?

I used to climb in my parents bed (albeit on my mums side but my dad was never one for hugs and cuddles) as a teen.

It has to be up to her to decide - I guess it's probably a comfort thing if the split is fairly new?

crimsonlake · 02/09/2018 20:31

How on earth can people advise when you do not even post your child's age?

HollowTalk · 02/09/2018 20:31

I think it's inappropriate that he doesn't have a bed for her.

refusetobeasheep · 02/09/2018 20:32

she is seven and a half, i guess my main concern is she will find it very hard to tell him if she prefers her own space. but i think i am worrying about this too early.

When she no longer wants to share.
