To think that actually Sporty Spice was pretty damn beautiful and to wonder why she was always overlooked

Just got a 90's music channel on in the background and they have played a couple of spice girl songs. I was a teenager when they were big and people often had a favourite and it was never her. But with my older eyes I can see how lovely she was and still is now. So why was she so overlooked? She had the best voice too Confused

She was definitely the least worst Spice and she can really sing.

TBF Emma Bunton seems nice too.

Emma's definitely improved with age, as has Melanie C and Geri. Victoria is still a miseable cow and Mel B is still, well, I don't know what I think about Mel B apart from her not looking like herself anymore. Think Mel c was the only singer in that band, the rest couldn't hold a tune

I think it was the stupid trackies they used to make her wear. If they had styled her like any one of the others she would not have been overlooked so much. There were some very large egos in that band though so I don't think she really had a choice.

The others were glam, but she was basically styled to be as asexual as possible.

In fairness she was probably comfortable with that at the time.

She's gorgeous these days. And some of her songs since have been great. I heard "I Turn To You" on the radio the other day and it was fantastic.

Sporty was definitely one of the most popular I remember among friends etc Maybe it depends where you grew up? Australia here

Sporty was always my favourite, i had a friend who also loves her and we used to argue over who was sporty and who would be stuck being Geri. I also had the tatoo transfers from TOTP magazine Grin

We all used to argue on who would be Sporty too.

It always came down to whoever had the best gymnastics in the group at the time.

No one wanted to be Mel C cos we didn’t have any leopard print clothes

I always thought she was pretty, but her contrived character was a tomboy, so she wasn't in the knicker skimming skirts and never became a sex symbol.. Her voice was one of the, if not the, best of the lot and she always seemed very grounded.

I am happy to hear she was favourite for some and big in Oz. I grew up in the home counties and the favourites were pretty evenly split between the other four.

I never thought she was particularly pretty as she had quite pointy, witchy features and a big jaw - but I suppose this is a personal taste thing.

She was definitely the best singer and had the worst styling though, poor her.

I warm to Geri every now and again then see she's done something that makes me think Hmm. Her wedding dress was absolutely beautiful.

The others were made to look and be sexy. She never was. Being "sporty" was a curse. Only so much you can do with kappa pants and box fresh Reebok.

Because she was stuck in tracky bottoms and a vest top when the others got leopard print, union flag mini dresses, big trainers or straight straight hair (this was V Important in the late 1990s)

She was always my DD's favourite. By far the best singer in the group by a mile. I presume she was styled that way to cover all bases of little girls interests and supposed role models (though not sure who Scary Spice was meant to appeal to)

My DD loved the Gladiator women too (another blast from the past !)

They were all styled pretty gruesomely, though, weren't they? I mean, I know the others were presented in a more feminine and overtly sexual way, but God, it was all very tacky. I do like Mel C, I saw her as Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar and she was great.

She's still my favourite but the phrase 'Sporty Spice' made me laugh.
They were styled as cartoon characters. Girl Power? Bleugh!

She has the strongest voice in the Spice Girls, but it's too dry and harsh for me.

She is quite nice looking I agree.

Even as a child I hated that and Sporty was my least favourite (I was obsessed with Spice Girls and watched them in everything!) and have never liked Sacha Baren Cohen since!

She is also the best singer from the group and whilst this couldn’t be described as world class I have always liked this duet from Mel C and Emma:

Is there anyone as grim as Mel B in the music world? apart from Lily Allen? Mel B is like a musical version of Vicki Pollard.

YANBU. I always thought she was 'cute' but not the prettiest - I thought Baby Spice was.

All the others are pretty too, but baby (Emma) Spice was the cutest IMO.

NOW though, Sporty (Mel C,) is the most attractive IMO. She has aged well, and has really blossomed.

They all look OK actually except Victoria. She looks sour faced all the time, and has had waaaaay too much stuff done to her face. And I know she dislikes her smile, but I wish she would try and crack a smile at least once a year!

(Geri is lovely too, and also Mel B is attractive.)

But yeah, you are right about Mel C.
