Drive at the speed limit

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/09/2018 18:37

I am sick to bloody death of drivers who refuse to drive upto the speed limit.

Ffs if it's 60mph speed limit - drive at fucking 60 -NOT 30 🤬🤬

Three times I have been out driving since last night, EVERY fucking time on 3 different journeys I have been stuck behind some freaking twat who cannot drive upto the speed limit, or overtake a fucking cyclist (but that's another rant)

I am by no means a girl racer, but FFS get out of my fucking way.

Aaaaaand breathe.

Rules 160 & 161. But why let prejudice get in the way of facts.

Baumederose · 02/09/2018 18:04

Has anyone mentioned thinking of the children yet?

I think that's all I'm missing on my road safety bingo card for a full house

VeniVidiWeeWee · 02/09/2018 18:05

Previous post should read "facts get in the way of prejudice."

40mph is really not a safe speed through the small villages round here. Not with their sharp bends and high hedges, duckponds with their meandering ducks, invisible access driveways, gargantuan potholes, flocks of pigeons eating fallen grain, horses and riders, no footpaths so people and their dogs walk in the road, the occasional flock of sheep, farm tractors reversing out of gateways, humpback bridges, articulated lorries whose drivers have unwisely followed their satnav instructions, cyclists (proper ones - people going about their daily business of getting from A to B, not the lycra-clad weekenders who are in a league of their own), school buses, combine harvesters, gravel, mud and manure on the road... not to mention children out playing in the school holidays.
At night you also have locals weaving their way drunkenly back from the pub, deer jumping out at you, halfwits in huge 4x4's with laser beam headlights blinding you via your wing mirrors - and the local badger suicide squad.

No, I think I'll stay a tad under 40 if that's all right with you.

HOUSE!

Meckity1 · 02/09/2018 18:26

This thread is fascinating for a learner. I reckon that around 50% of the correct answers in the theory test involved 'slow down and leave plenty of space'. But if you drive too slow and cause frustration then you are a hazard or you get someone trying to overtake into the space you have just left for the erratic driver in front.

I nearly fell off my chair when I was practising for the theory test and came across the sign for 'end of minimum speed limit'. I had never come across that.

AlexaAmbidextra · 02/09/2018 18:27

Redcarbluecar. You like to ‘pootle’ so you can appreciate the scenery? You should be concentrating on your driving, not gazing around, wondering at the beauty of the countryside. Drivers like you are a bloody menace.

Onecutefox · 02/09/2018 18:42

*TittyGolightly

He didn't read the traffic well. I was fine. He overtook me - fine but what about the oncoming bus? The biker took chances.

Did you know he was behind you? When?*

You don't get it, no? He was endangering himselft first of all I he was smashed by an oncoming bus. What has this to do with me? How could I have stopped him?

And if you have more questions then save the energy and don't ask me anything anymore.

IndigoSpritz · 02/09/2018 19:06

I encountered a beauty today. Red hatchback doing about 35mph in the 50 zone with about six cars stuck behind. Move up to the 60 zone, the red hatchback accelerates to about 45. The fun really began on the dual carriageway, so 70mph limit. Dry, daylight, no roadworks, perfect. RH comes off the roundabout into the outside lane and maintains about 45mph, in the outside lane. I overtake on the inside (I know...) as do others and sneak a quick look at our heroine. Silly cow didn't have a clue. Just bad driving.

lexer · 02/09/2018 19:28

Classy @IndigoSpritz. You one day will be that woman (if you are lucky). The arrogance and ignorance of young girls (yes..that's what you are) is pathetic and dangerous.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 02/09/2018 19:41

lexer

Why is indigo dangerous?

TittyGolightly · 02/09/2018 19:43

Have uploaded dash cam footage to the police site of the absolute twat this afternoon who caused a queue of traffic to join a motorway at 35mph. A major incident was only avoided by everyone else taking action. They should be banned from driving for life.

TittyGolightly · 02/09/2018 19:45

Why is indigo dangerous?

The undertake, presumably.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 02/09/2018 19:50

But as we both know, not a specific offence.

IndigoSpritz · 02/09/2018 19:55

lexer. RH was not only holding up traffic by failing to make adequate progress but she was using the wrong lane on the dual carriageway according to her speed. Was I meant to match her speed and sit behind or alongside her, causing further consternation ? My manoeuvre, and that of the other drivers FWIW, was technically not permissible but it was safe and reasonable in the circumstances. What would you have done ?

By the way, I am neither female nor young. I was young, once.

shirleyschmidt · 02/09/2018 21:40

With you @IndigoSpritz. The arrogant and ignorant driver is the one who thinks it's OK to stick out in the right lane of a 70 road, overtaking nobody, while they do 45mph.

IndigoSpritz · 02/09/2018 22:06

Thankyou shirley. I wouldn't have been bothered if she had been in the inside lane at that speed. At least other motorists can then overtake legally, as it were. Plus, driving needlessly slowly on a single carriageway in ideal driving conditions really is not on.

redcarbluecar · 02/09/2018 23:35

Alexis Ambidextra. I think I said it's not against the law to 'pootle', not that I did it myself. God forbid I would do anything that held up YOUR important journey. Although you never know, given half a chance....Let me know when you're next in the Lakes or Scotland.

ItsScoob · 03/09/2018 04:49

I get pissed off by thoughtless morons who think you should always drive at the speed limit.

I'll drive at 30 in a 60 if I feel it's the safe speed (as I do every single day on my commute) although I do sometimes drive a bit quicker than 70mph on the dual carriageway or motorway if I feel it's safe.

Sisgal · 03/09/2018 05:13

@itsscoob driving at 30 on a 60 road is DANGEROUS. You might not feel safe or want to drive at 60..but what about those who do?? The road limit is 60mph that means you can LEGALLY drive at 60. If I am behind you it would cause me to have to slow down (which can be dangerous) and why should I either be A, forced to sit behind you at a slowed down speed or B forced in to over taking (which again can be dangerous depending on the type of road) a lot of roads near me are 60mph and I get so fucked off at idiot drivers going too slow on these roads! I fully accept that sometimes due to weather etc that road conditions can alter your driving style and yes obviously slow down or be bit more cautious if it's rainy/snowy/icy etc but if you can't drive at 50 or 60 (on a 60mph road) in good dry clear conditions then GET OFF THE FU*KING ROAD, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DRIVING!!

ItsScoob · 03/09/2018 05:31

If slowing down is dangerous then you're driving too quickly.

You are never forced to overtake - if you do so dangerously you are 100% to blame. You are never forced to drive beyond your abilities and I hope that when you go backwards into a tree you don't kill anyone else.

I have a Race National B Competition Licence and drive an M5, a Honda CBR 600 and commute by bicycle to work 3 times a week. I have a feeling I'm safer, more aware and could ride / drive more quickly than you. However, when I'm stuck behind a slower road user (horse, bike, car, whatever) it never feel "forced" to do anything dangerous.

" if you can't drive at 50 or 60 (on a 60mph road) in good dry clear conditions then GET OFF THE FU*KING ROAD, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DRIVING!!"

If my twin-turbo V8 can't get there safely then your car sure as hell can't.

Your impatience and anger and stupidity are frightening. Please tell me you aren't a parent and never drive with passengers... please?!?

Sisgal · 03/09/2018 05:34

@itsscoob ooh sounds like I have a much better car than you and im clearly a better driver hahahaha

ItsScoob · 03/09/2018 05:38

I think I have the best car in the world although I'm intrigued as to what you think is better. Anyway, that's a debate for a pub.

You clearly aren't a better driver as you think you can be forced to overtake. Your detestably better car sounds like it's going to get you higher into that tree when the back swings out.

It's really sad that you may well not simply be trolling and could actually be allowed to drive on the road with a child in the car with you.

Sisgal · 03/09/2018 05:39

And yes I have 4 Shock children. Seems really aggressive of you to say you hope I don't have kids just because I drive at 60 on a 60.... I hope you don't drive with such aggression and stupidity Hmm anyway don't need to believe me, Google it, ask a driving instructor or police if driving at 30 mph under the speed limit is dangerous (hint: they will tell you it is)
