Drive at the speed limit

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/09/2018 18:37

I am sick to bloody death of drivers who refuse to drive upto the speed limit.

Ffs if it's 60mph speed limit - drive at fucking 60 -NOT 30 🤬🤬

Three times I have been out driving since last night, EVERY fucking time on 3 different journeys I have been stuck behind some freaking twat who cannot drive upto the speed limit, or overtake a fucking cyclist (but that's another rant)

I am by no means a girl racer, but FFS get out of my fucking way.

Aaaaaand breathe.

Please do come & give our NSL roads a go. I can guarantee you if you hit 60 even at the first bend you will have an accident.

lexer · 02/09/2018 12:44

OP Country roads are the most dangerous roads. I suggest you try doing an advanced driving course because at the moment you are a danger with your attitude.

attentionspan · 02/09/2018 12:54

Going at the correct speed for the conditions is not hesitating, Santaclarita

Driving correctly does NOT mean driving AT the maximum speed limit every second of your journey, just because the fuckwit behind you has a death wish.

When I passed my test the examiner said if anything I'd been driving a fraction too fast, and that it wasn't necessary to push to the limit all the time.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/09/2018 13:02

I overtook a cyclists and then moments later I heard a sound of a biker overtaking me - between my car and an oncoming double decker bus. Distance wasn't great. He was just an impatient idiot who would have put in danger not only himself. We were also on the bridge.

What that says to me is you were not reading the traffic behind you well enough and didnt check your blind spot before pulling out tbh

blacksax · 02/09/2018 13:25

Just wow at some of the comments on this thread. Nobody is advocating driving at 30 in a 60 limit. All they are saying is that you don't have to drive at 60 all the time either.

Tittygolightly A pp suggested that driving at less than the speed limit was a safer option than driving flat out at the limit, irrespective of whether it was safe to do so or not. How did you get to thinking of driving at 5 miles an hour on a motorway from that?

If I am on a road with a 60 limit, why should I have to drive at 60 when I'm not in a tearing hurry? 55 is fine. If someone wants to overtake me on a blind bend at 80 mph because they are a self-important tosser with a temper then that's their perogative and nothing to do with me.

It's because I said "driving slowly is not dangerous" in a conversation about driving at 30 in a 60 zone, and she quoted me out of context in a bad attempt at making a point.

MereDintofPandiculation · 02/09/2018 13:52

If you are not capable enough to drive at the limit the road has been deemed safe Most NSL roads haven't been "deemed safe". They haven't been assessed. There's a big difference. On a NSL road it's up to you to decide what is a safe speed. And on a non-NSL road it's up to you to decide whether there are any conditions today which make the speed limit too high for driving today.

MustBeThin · 02/09/2018 13:57

Do you know what I hate, people that drive up my arse on a 30mph road when I'm doing bang on 30 according to my speedometer. It's like they try to bully you into going quicker which I will never do and I know for a fact that my speedometer isn't miles out because every time I drive at 30 past one of those signs that flashes your speed it says I'm doing 28-29 and my sat nav is the same. I dont give a shit about the leeway percentage either, if I'm on a 40mph road then I'm doing 40 according to my speedometer not 40+ because there's a leeway and to satisfy the people behind me.

Another thing I hate, people that can't use their indicators why are people too lazy to use them? It's really not that difficult is it? People constantly changing lanes without using them or making you wait at a roundabout because they haven't got their indicator on so you presume they are going straight on to the second exit but instead they take the first exit, leaving you waiting when you could have gone.

As for NSL roads. Straight roads good conditions I obviously do 60mph, there's loads of roads that I regularly travel on that are NSL but some of them are really bendy with blind bends and there is always a cyclist or 2 on them, for these I obviously slow down. I'm not taking blind bends doing 60, I don't want to kill myself or anyone else.

@oldspeckledhen

@overnightangel ok ... am I not allowed to vent? Have you never been angry?

Like I've said before, one journey yes... but three separate journeys all in a row to experience bad drivers?

We all have bad days... I'm obviously just having one!”

Have a good evening 😉

If you can’t not be aggressive entitled on an anonymous forum I dread to think what you’re like on the roads. Good look spending your life being angry and unhappy coz the world won’t conform to you. All the best with that 😂Clown

Angry drivers are a very entitled and dangerous part of society. Just chill the f**k out

Onecutefox · 02/09/2018 14:56

He didn't read the traffic well. I was fine. He overtook me - fine but what about the oncoming bus? The biker took chances.

Onecutefox · 02/09/2018 15:00

MustBeThin, totally agree with you.

yoghurtbinger · 02/09/2018 15:01

There are many unrestricted rural roads round here, many of which have bends in them. Most of the ancient oak and chestnut trees near the bends have the scars to prove that the roads are not safe at high speed.

TittyGolightly · 02/09/2018 15:49

Did you know he was behind you? When?

Munchyseeds · 02/09/2018 16:03

Just because the limit is 60 (or whatever) it does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed...what about walkers, horses/riders, bad weather? the list goes on
Your attitude stinks!

yoghurtbinger · 02/09/2018 16:17

Did you know he was behind you? When?
If it was anything like most motorbikes round here, it appeared out of nowhere at the speed of light.

LyndorCake · 02/09/2018 16:37

specialsubject you hope someone you don't know hits a tree and dies?? Did you really say that??... Fucking hell

VeniVidiWeeWee · 02/09/2018 16:37

yoghurt

Bikes only appear out of nowhere when you're not using your mirrors. This was the main reason I gave up my bike.

lljkk · 02/09/2018 16:47

Motorbikes doing 20mph above speed limit really do appear out of nowhere.

lexer · 02/09/2018 17:37

@Aprilshowersinaugust...your examiner was a tosser if this is true.

Meckity1 · 02/09/2018 17:39

@lljkk As previously mentioned to death, I am a learner. My experiences are all with a pretty laid back observer. He doesn't sugar coat, either, if I've got it wrong.

I was approaching a tough junction. I was being extra careful as I was crossing a dual carriageway with the road the other side slightly offset and a bend to the right. I checked, double checked and then went for it, and my instructor said I nailed it - then a motorbike really seemed to come out of nowhere from my right at speed, swerved around the back of me, overtook me on the left hand side as I was trying to move left to get the correct position on the road and sped away. Apparently that's not the usual rules of the road. I honestly believe there was a very, very small space between him speeding away and me having my first accident.

This was the same evening as the cyclist weaving in front of me while on the phone. Did I mention my instructor was trying to get me through the tough bends. I was creeping up a really steep, sharp bend to the junction, in first, to join a busy road and wondering what the adventurer in the hoodie was going to do next.

I guess I need to get used to it.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 02/09/2018 17:40

lljkk

No. They really don't.

20 mph is just under 30 feet per second. Therefore if the bike started 100 yards behind you, and was doing 20 mph more than you, it will take about 10 seconds to catch up with you.

If you only look in the mirrors once every 10 seconds you're really not driving properly.

lljkk · 02/09/2018 17:55

Where does it say in highway code to check mirrors every 10 seconds?

What if you just went around a bend & over a hill and can't see 10 seconds behind you because nobody could if they were travelling near the speed limit Very easily possible. Or if you're concentrating on what's happening in front like dodgy overtaking among the oncoming cars or somebody waiting at a side road who looks recklessly keen to pull out or identifying what the hazard is ahead that everyone is slowing down to overtake. Those are very valid reasons to go 10+ seconds without checking rear mirror.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 02/09/2018 18:00

You'll get slated on here OP but I hear you!! The absolute bane of my life. Especially when the safe 40mph carries on through all the small villages on the roads.Angry
