Drive at the speed limit

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/09/2018 18:37

I am sick to bloody death of drivers who refuse to drive upto the speed limit.

Ffs if it's 60mph speed limit - drive at fucking 60 -NOT 30 🤬🤬

Three times I have been out driving since last night, EVERY fucking time on 3 different journeys I have been stuck behind some freaking twat who cannot drive upto the speed limit, or overtake a fucking cyclist (but that's another rant)

I am by no means a girl racer, but FFS get out of my fucking way.

Aaaaaand breathe.

It's annoying I agree but unless you have to be somewhere and you're already late there's no need for the amount of anger you're displaying surely!?

ginghambox · 01/09/2018 18:41

The most dangerous thing ever inventedGin

Drive at the speed limit
Merryoldgoat · 01/09/2018 18:41

Are you me?

KnopeforAmerica · 01/09/2018 18:43

If you're that angry you really shouldn't be driving, especially not at 60mph.....

It is annoying but really, there's nothing you can do about it. Just deep breaths and let it wash over you. You'll be less stressed and safer to drive.

Also, 3 times, 3 different people driving significantly below the speed limit. Not say, 55 in a 60 zone?

Sparklesocks · 01/09/2018 18:44

It is annoying, however my exception is on twisty turny country roads - the limit is often 60 on those but I rarely get near that, too many bends and corners with no sense of how close other drivers are - I don’t feel comfortable doing 60 around those sharp bends.

But on dual carriage ways etc yes, significantly slower drivers can really create traffic.

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/09/2018 18:44

@GreatDuckCookery one journey yes, frustrating... but three all in row? That's my anger, and I'm here to vent - which is allowed 😉

FFS they wouldn't even get caught by a fucking speed camera if they sped up.

bridgetreilly · 01/09/2018 18:45

It's a maximum limit, not a target. People are entitled to drive slower if they choose. And the most dangerous people on the roads are those who can't control their temper.

HandbagsAtDawn123 · 01/09/2018 18:45

Your going to get a load of it's not a target comments!

Fully agree with you as you should be making good progress. Driving well below the speed limit is just as dangerous. Obviously there at roads that have NSL but would be impossible to get to.

As for cyclist, I will only overtake where I have room and definitely not round a corner or before a brow of a hill- you can't see and you have no idea what type of car could be bearing down on you. So in this instance you can all just wait!

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/09/2018 18:45

How long until the first “60 is a limit, not a target”?

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/09/2018 18:46

@KnopeforAmerica honestly... every single time 30 in a 60 ....

At one point, I thought I could get out and overtake them by walking up the hill 🙄

OP posts:
ASlowRegardOfSilentThings · 01/09/2018 18:46

Grin I had this earlier on today! It was a 50 limit, I was doing 31. The guy slowed down when we entered the 30 limit zone. I get that not everyone is confident though.

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/09/2018 18:46

Ha! Cross post. It’s already appeared. 😄

sirmione16 · 01/09/2018 18:48

Omg I'm gonna take this opportunity to second this opinion, OP and also add in people do NOT need to slow to basically a standstill to go over a speed bump. (Some are disgustingly steep and yes I slow for these too, I'm talking about average speed bumps which your wheels barely touch and you can easy keep going 30 over AND YET people slow to 10 Envy why?!

OldSpeclkledHen · 01/09/2018 18:48

And yes, I know 60 is not a target. But it's dry and clear... and country roads I understand 60 is also not sensible... but 25-30??? Really?! Did you have driving lessons? 🤣

OP posts:
Aprilshowersinaugust · 01/09/2018 18:48

I failed my driving test because I failed to drive AT the speed limit. A rainy back road at 50 not 60. Lack of progress and hesitancy he stated. If you aren't confident enough to drive AT the limit my examiner wouldn't pass you. As it should be imo if you have already passed a test or get a bus.

highheelsandbobblehats · 01/09/2018 18:48

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. The other day whilst driving, I was mentally writing this exact post in my head whilst stuck behind a slow driver. He consistently did 20mph UNDER the limit, no matter what the limit was!! As we went into a village where the limit is 40 from a 60, as we drove over the SLOW painted on the road, he slammed on his brakes and slowed to 20. That is bloody dangerous driving.

For the people that say you shouldn't be driving with this amount of rage at 60mph, if you were going 60, you wouldn't have the rage!

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 01/09/2018 18:49

They're probably on their phone. I was stuck behind one the other day, crawling along a dual carriageway at 35 and ended up next to her at the lights. Had her phone propped in the wheel texting away. The rage was strong. Twat.

Coldilox · 01/09/2018 18:51

If you drove at 30 in a 60 zone in a test you'd fail (if it was a road that was safe to do 60 on, not a windy country road)

FruitCider · 01/09/2018 18:55

It's a maximum limit, not a target. People are entitled to drive slower if they choose. And the most dangerous people on the roads are those who can't control their temper.

Actually you CAN be prosecuted for driving too slow under "careless driving". Perhaps people wouldn't lose their tempers if people didn't insist on doing 35mp on a straight and open country road with national speed limit on a clear and dry day... 😡

attentionspan · 01/09/2018 18:56

Just because it is the speed limit, it doesn't mean you have to drive at that maximum speed all the time just because you have some impatient arsehole who thinks they are important behind you
We are rural and most of the roads round here are unrestricted. You would have to be a total raving nutcase to believe you could drive at 60 on any of those roads safely.

BigBlueBubble · 01/09/2018 18:56

People who drive significantly under the speed limit for no good reason are dangerous and at risk of causing an accident because people try to get past them. That’s why you’d fail your test for driving too slow. If you can’t keep up with normal traffic you shouldn’t be driving. It’s often the elderly who are guilty of this - another reason why everyone should regularly be re-tested over the age of about 65.

ForalltheSaints · 01/09/2018 18:58

The OP is not fit to have a licence in my opinion. But will still be allowed one, as will any who are driving at 30 because of undeclared health issues, or being on the phone.

Those found using their phone should have the phone number and home internet withdrawn for a period of time.

ManyCrisps · 01/09/2018 18:59

But but 60 is a limit not a target oh would you people fuck off there’s is a big difference between going 30 in a 60 and doing 50 in a 60.

billysboy · 01/09/2018 19:00

These people are normally identifiable as driving a small silver car

The ones that tickle me are the ones that drive at 45 in a 60 and then 45 when they hit the 30 !

catherinedevalois · 01/09/2018 19:01

The usual MN intolerance for people not adhering to their own standards!Grin
And as for someone complaining about slowing for speed bumps - have you BEEN in a 20 year old motorhome recently?? I have just spent 3 weeks in one and trust me your head practically hits the ceiling going over a stone in the road, let alone a speed bump Shock
