Partner's mum making me confirm her other son is just as handsome?

Someone please tell me how you'd have responded, I felt extremely awkward and didn't really know how to respond!

Been with my partner 4 months. Finally visiting his family for this evening - Monday morning. They live a few hours away which is why it hasn't really been any sooner.

They all seem lovely. My partner has 1 brother who I haven't met yet, he is at university!! He's 20. I'm almost 30 (partner 31)...

She got out a lot of photos to show me and we got to one of him and his brother and she strait away went "aren't they handsome" and I smiled. I assumed it would be left there. Then she goes "well, you obviously find (son 1) attractive, but isn't (son 2) just as handsome?" I again just smiled. I didn't know what to say? She then kept going "isn't he?"

I honestly have absolutely no idea what the appropriate way to respond was, so would like to know what you think?

"Yes he's good looking for a 20 year old. 20 year olds are far too young for me."

Stompythedinosaur · 31/08/2018 21:52

"He looks lovely" and change the topic.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 31/08/2018 21:53

‘And bright. You must be very proud of him’

Tirednessandmoretiredness · 31/08/2018 21:53

I'd have made a comment about good genes and laughed or something. I think she was maybe looking for a verbal response. If she was looking at the photos and you just smiled then she may not have known you responded....

Labradoodliedoodoo · 31/08/2018 21:54

She wasn’t asking you to date him

CherryValance · 31/08/2018 21:54

I'd have just smiled (as you did) and said something bland but complementary like 'you certainly made good looking guys. If only my younger sis/cousin wasn't taken'

Sunflowerr · 31/08/2018 21:55

I'd have talked about it like he was a kid "oh yes he's lovely isn't he". She's just a proud Mum.

HerRoyalNotness · 31/08/2018 21:56

“Q: “Aren’t they handsome”
A: “They sure are”

gamerchick · 31/08/2018 21:59

'Bit young for me though' just to be sure and all that Grin

RealSLOAH · 31/08/2018 22:02

“Yes; he’s definitely a younger version of his older brother. [Boyfriend] has told me how much he loves him / so much about him - I think of him as my little brother already!”

Ohyesiam · 31/08/2018 22:02

“He sure is “ would have worked .
She’s a proud mum.
Ps, did you fancy him?Grin

Are you serious??

As PP suggested above.

Or, "I'd bang him like a storm door in a hurricane", if you're feeling especially brave.

Pigeonpost · 31/08/2018 22:04

My ILs are always going in about how DH and BIL look similar. They really do not!!! BIL is an ugly fucker.

Theredcape678 · 31/08/2018 22:06

Can you call someone your partner after 4 months? I like ButchyRestingFace’s suggestion.

notacooldad · 31/08/2018 22:07

Nothing to get worked about. In this situation you just smile and agree.
Nothing weird, she just sounds uber proud of her kids.

CoughLaughFart · 31/08/2018 22:10

Can you call someone your partner after 4 months?

I’m sure she can if she wants to.

CoughLaughFart · 31/08/2018 22:11

Lick the picture. Then lick her face. She won’t ask again.

Theredcape678 · 31/08/2018 22:13

CoughLaughFart well she can call him anything, but ‘partner’ after four months sounds a bit premature. Surely that’s someone you’re dating or a boyfriend after that short amount of time?!

Batmanthedude · 31/08/2018 22:14

cough that made me laugh.

Could have just said yes , no drama needed

namecha · 31/08/2018 22:14

Isn't a boyfriend a partner?

In inlaws did this to me when I 1st met them - dh has 3 other brothers and she asked if I thought her other sons were just as good looking - I said ‘not my type’ but They’re all good looking in their own way! So bloody odd. Kept asking if I thought his second brother looked like his twin too - no madam - he was bald and my husband isn’t!

gamerchick · 31/08/2018 22:16

AamdC · 31/08/2018 22:16

Well i married dh after six monthe Thered so if Op. Wants to call him her partner?

Lizzie48 · 31/08/2018 22:16

My DH and BIL are very similar in looks, apart from BIL having a beard and moustache, which I hate! Thankfully, my MIL never asked me to compare them. If she had, it wouldn't have bothered me, I'd have found it funny!

I would have wished I had the ability to think of a witty response, humour never been my strong point. My DH more than makes up for my lacking in that department! Grin

AnyFucker · 31/08/2018 22:17

"Yeah. I'd ride him like Seabiscuit"
