I know a brother and sister (not twins) called Jade and Jake, which is a bit wtf...

HazelBite · 31/08/2018 14:31

I knew a lady who when she was prenant told me her favourite girls names were Alexandra and Victoria, and accordingly named her firstborn Alexandra Victoria. Fast forward a few years and daughter no. 2 is born and called (yes you've guessed it) Victoria Alexandra!

MrsJonSno · 31/08/2018 14:31

Tinty- I also know someone with a son called James and a second son called Jamie. Must be more common than you’d think!

lurkingfromhome · 31/08/2018 14:32

Old neighbour of my mum's:

Dad called James
Brother called James (after the father)
Husband called James
Had a son, guess what: they called him James
Son & girlfriend have a baby: yes, James.

Son & girlfriend still live with his parents so under one roof there are three people called James. The oldest James later moves in with them, so 4 of them living together. All called James, no Jim or Jamie or Jimmy variations.

Why? Why on earth would you?

WhiteCaribou · 31/08/2018 14:33

I know twins called Christopher and Christine, both nicknamed Chris. I also know a family where mum and dad are Katherine and Philip and the children are Catherine and Philip!

Paddley · 31/08/2018 14:34

I know I must be a bit slow on the uptake here, but can someone explain 3luckystars post. She knows twins with the last name Ball, but doesn't know their first names. Confused

ElspethTascioni · 31/08/2018 14:35

My mate’s grandad and his brothers were: Mathew, Mark, Luke and...Herbert Grin

LaContessaDiPlump · 31/08/2018 14:38

DS2 has a name which shortens down to a commonly-used diminutive (let's say it's Jonny) and we lengthened it so his nickname was Jonny Ronny (or similar) because we have idiot nicknames in our house.

A friend came back chuckling at softplay once and revealed that she'd heard one mum quietly saying to another mum "Is that child REALLY called Jonny Ronny?' I laughed Grin

butterflysugarbaby · 31/08/2018 14:39

@WhiteCaribou

Many years ago, people often named their children after themselves; even in my family, my great uncle Albert, and great auntie Grace, called their kids Albert and Grace, and my DH's grandad was named after HIS father too.

I know quite a number of similar cases...

Incredibly common some 60-70 plus years ago (and beyond.)

I do think it's weird though yes!

MissLingoss · 31/08/2018 14:40

Is it just me that's thinking of the Abbey Girls series with Rosamund having all those twins with matchy names - iirc Rosanna, Rosilda, Rosabel, Rosalin?

Not just you! Two sets, with less than twelve months between them!

Anyone else remember the Gullickson twins? They were identical twin tennis players called Tim and Tom. They played doubles, and commentators used to distinguish them by referring to 'the right handed twin' and 'the left handed twin', as that was the only way to tell them apart on court.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 31/08/2018 14:43

I know sisters called Gosia, Zoshia, Ela and Ola.

Also sisters called Alice and Alex (andra.)

There were 3 siblings at my school called Anne, Andrew and Joanne.

Sisters called Amy and Emma, not too bad.

My friend called her DDs Sophia and Lauren.

I had aunties called Margery and Margaret.

PuppyMonkey · 31/08/2018 14:45

Paddley - not a bloody clue. Grin

ColumboOnTheCase · 31/08/2018 14:45

**I know someone with 5 girls:

Shanika
Shalika
Sharika
Shamika
Shatika

I went to school with a Shiraz and his siblings were Shahbaz, Shahana and Shabana. No joke.

In some cultures (my own) giving your children matchy names is the custom. Identifies them as sibling group I think. We gave our twin ID girls very different names and the wider community thought we were odd 😁

Faintlinesquints · 31/08/2018 14:46

What about the Dugger family - they h the American series 19 kids and counting - each kids’ name began with a J.....

SuburbanRhonda · 31/08/2018 14:51

Not quite the same, but doesn’t Jermaine Jackson have a son called Jermajesty?

Grin
Jux · 31/08/2018 14:52

Scrofula and Embolism.

TheActualFuck · 31/08/2018 14:58

Used to know twins called Bethel and Bethelside Grinmakes me smile just thinking about it

Tinywhale · 31/08/2018 14:59

Sam and Ella made me properly laugh!

My Mum had twin friends called Irene and Eileen, I thought that was bad enough.

WindyWednesday · 31/08/2018 15:00

I know a guy called Robert Roberts.

FuckyDuzz · 31/08/2018 15:02

Ooo I’ve just remembered there’s a set of twin boys near me called Billy & Bobby - I know they’re not the same name but I do think it sounds a bit daft

MargaretDribble · 31/08/2018 15:04

I love Matthew, Mark, Luke and Herbert.Grin

MaMisled · 31/08/2018 15:05

I know of twins called Oliver and Olivia!

Flyingpigs247 · 31/08/2018 15:05

Maybe Rosy is short for Roseanne and you don't know the other twin's name? If you heard the mum say "Rosy" and then "Roseanne" for the same child?
I'm always alternating between full names and shortened versions of my children's names in conversation.

SpottingTheZebras · 31/08/2018 15:07

I remember reading about twins whose names were the same but round the other way so one was called Spotting Zebra and the other one was called Zebra Spotting.

GreenTulips · 31/08/2018 15:15

People think of twins as a set when really they are two completely separate human beings who are individual

Yep - Very evident on this thread - quite rude
