I know a William Williamson at work - did his parents really not know any other names??

I also knew a set of siblings once where each girl had the older ones middle name as her first name? The eldest was a Charlotte Louise, then the next born was Louise Melissa, then it was Melissa something and the youngest was named Melissa's middle name (I can't remember it now). I thought that was a bit strange

Our neighbours have two boys - not twins but only 18months between them - named after both DGFs, so they’re Benjamin David and David Benjamin. (Names changed !). But at least they’re Dave and Ben.

WasHotOnceUponATime · 31/08/2018 20:32

@Saffy101
Not twins BUT in my sons class many years ago they used to enjoy the register being called as the one poor lad was called.....Wayne Carr

Years ago my friend went out with a lad called Wayne Kerr. WTF were his parents thinking.

ButtonMirror · 31/08/2018 20:42

Since this thread isn't just about twins and siblings...

My cousin has 2 children. She met and married a man with 3 children.

These aren't there real names but to give you an idea.

Cousins kids are Emily Frances and Jacob Andrew. Step kids are Francis Benjamin, Emma Andrea and Lewis Jackson.
So basically she has a step son with exact sane name as her daughter's middle name but on a boy (Frances and Francis), step daughter with very similar first name (emma and emily) to her daughter who also has feminine version of her sons middle name as her middle name (Andrew and andrea) and a stepson with similar middle name to her own son's first name (Jackson and Jacob)

When I worked in a hospital, we had a patient admitted who was a twin. Just for example say his first and middle names were John Michael. When checking the hospital system, with the Hospital Number the patient had been given, it came up as Michael John. I went to check with the patient which was the correct order - turns out he was a twin - one called John Michael and the other Michael John. The A & E Dept had got the surname and date of birth and had just assumed the names had been taken down incorrectly, when in fact his hospital number was actually that of his brother (so all past x-rays etc related to the Hospital Number he was using were actually his brother's). Just don't know why you would do this. Surely, if you could only come up with two names, you just wouldn't give them middle names?? Just to clarify, these weren't the actual names.

I know a set of twins, Daniel and Daniella. They're in their teens now and absolutely hate it. She goes as Ella now and he goes as Dan.

Catinthecorner · 31/08/2018 20:48

Not twins but someone I know from my schooldays has called his daughters Ruby and Scarlett.

I’m sort of desperate for him to have a third to see if they go with another red name.

marine04 · 31/08/2018 20:49

I know a brother and sister called Oliver and Olivia.

Thehop · 31/08/2018 20:50

I read about twins in the paper called febreze and lenor a few years ago

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2018 20:54

I knew a tia- jay and a Jay-tia. They were identical.

Kitsandkids · 31/08/2018 20:55

I haven't read the full thread so apologies if it's already been mentioned but I've always thought that the Queen gave 2 of hers very similar names and have always been a bit surprised that she did - Anne and Andrew.

Also, years ago on Hollyoaks there were a brother and sister called Lee and Lisa which I always thought was a bit too similar.

Personally I have known twins called Gabbie and Abbie and sisters called Kelly and Shelly.

IGiorni · 31/08/2018 20:55

They’re not ‘similar’ names but I know someone with twins called Ronnie and Reggie. Can’t decide whether she’s just unaware of the connotations or if she did it on purpose Hmm

Mehaveit · 31/08/2018 20:59

I know an Amelia and an Emily twin pair. Too similar for my liking.

BertieBott · 31/08/2018 20:59

It's not just twins that suffer. I saw some adorable triplets in town the other day stopped and chatted as you do asking their names. Mum proudly replies Star, Nova and Stella

I actually like that

Me too.

laptopdisaster · 31/08/2018 21:02

I'm a GP. This sort of thing is common and I'm aware of more than one significant medical mistake that has been caused by too similar names.

AlpacaPicnic · 31/08/2018 21:03

I was registering s set of twins a few years ago called Toby-ray and Roby-ray...

pinkmagic1 · 31/08/2018 21:05

I know twins named Fullah and Yasmeen. Both mean the same exactly the same thing in different languages (Jasmine flower).

AlpacaPicnic · 31/08/2018 21:05

Ooh, and not twins but sisters local to me called Joop and D'kny
Uh-huh.

AveABanana · 31/08/2018 21:06

I know a Red and Ruby sibling set but lost touch when the mother was expecting no3.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 31/08/2018 21:08

You should have refused on the grounds that it’s cruel and unusual punishment to subject people to a lifetime of hearing “what the fuck?” whenever they say their name.
Robey-Ray?!

YerAuntFanny · 31/08/2018 21:09

We met triplets at the park one day during the holidays.

Rio, Rocco and Rory!

nocoolnamesleft · 31/08/2018 21:09

Not read the whole thread, and cannot share any of the name pairs I've come across, but it's actually dangerous.

Twins have a higher rate of being born early, of needing SCBU, and hence of having chest problems in their first winter.

They have the same surname, usually the same date of birth, and often (trying to get this changed at our place) adjacent hospital numbers. Thus staff eagerly await the first name, to help make them more distinguishable. Give them almost identical first names, and the risk of them being confused (however paranoidly careful staff are being) goes up.

Quite apart from the same initial meaning their formative years always opening each other's post...

SabineUndine · 31/08/2018 21:11

I used to know a Maria who swore she had sisters called Marie and Mary.

LizzieSiddal · 31/08/2018 21:14

Not humans but we used to have 2 chickens. DDs makes them
Kari and Oke.

LaDaronne · 31/08/2018 21:15

All I've got are brothers Noam and Naim.
