Am I unreasonable to not take daughter to hospital?

My daughter has a balloon of a hand. It's extremely bruised and swollen. However, she has no problem moving it and just slight pain when it's proded at. Absolutely no pain moving it.

My mum thinks I should take her and she will have to end up taking her Hmm

Opinions please?

Take her! Confused

maZebraltov · 29/08/2018 20:32

how did it get injured? I could imagine if it was me waiting until morning. Why keep a little kid up at night if you don't have to? They'll probably do nothing tonite to make it better, too.

Merryoldgoat · 29/08/2018 20:33

What happened?

evietw · 29/08/2018 20:33

She's not a little kid? She's 11. It got hit in car door. She's not in any pain. Not saying it hurts or anything. It just looks bad.

What did she do to it to cause the swelling?

A few months ago I developed a sore, swollen finger which started to get red. I went to the pharmacist in Boots the next morning as it was a Saturday and she told me very firmly to contact the OOH doctor that day and that it wouldn’t wait until Monday in case the infection spread.

GinIsIn · 29/08/2018 20:34

How old is your daughter and how did it get like that in the first place?

ThatFridayFeeling · 29/08/2018 20:34

Have you tried calling 101? You may get an out of hours gp appointment?

LotsToThinkOf · 29/08/2018 20:34

It depends, how did it happen?

DewDropsonKittens · 29/08/2018 20:34

Loss of feeling can occur in serious injury

Take your CHILD to a and e!!

evietw · 29/08/2018 20:35

She can feel her hand. It's just not very painful.

DidimusStench · 29/08/2018 20:35

If she can move it, it doesn’t mean it’s not broken. Have you asked her if it hurts because I’d be increadibly surprised if it didn’t based on your description alone

evietw · 29/08/2018 20:35

It hurts when touched.

OP posts:
LotsToThinkOf · 29/08/2018 20:36

X post, lots.

I think I'd take her tomorrow if it's an explained injury that isn't causing pain.

Sirzy · 29/08/2018 20:36

She has trapped a hand and has massive swelling. Why wouldn’t you get it checked? I would probably go for a minor injuries unit if one close by but I certainly wouldn’t ignore it.

HollowTalk · 29/08/2018 20:36

Come on, OP. Just take your daughter to get her hand checked out.

Cyw2018 · 29/08/2018 20:36

If you are concerned then take her to minor injuries unit tomorrow. She doesn't need to be seen in a&e during the night shift for that.

Feefeetrixabelle · 29/08/2018 20:37

Straight to hospital. All key signs of a fracture your describing their OP. The ones that aren’t screaming are the ones to get checked out.

Whatjusthappenedthere · 29/08/2018 20:39

I’m not a doctor but my Bil is a consultant Surgeon. I watched him assess my step daughters very very swollen hand in our kitchen a few months ago. He was satisfied that so long as she had full movement of the wrist and didgets it was fine.

Moody123 · 29/08/2018 20:40

My main rule, if your concerned enough to ask the question you should go :-) x

1CantPickAName · 29/08/2018 20:40

If it’s broken what can a & e do? I’d give her some calpol and wait and sew

1CantPickAName · 29/08/2018 20:41

*see not sew

Jenjenyeahyeah · 29/08/2018 20:41

Maybe it doesn’t hurt because she’s damaged nerves or can’t feel it due to a shock reaction - or any number of things that I don’t know because I’m not a doctor - but if one of my children’s hands looked like a ‘balloon’ then yeah I’d be sealing medical advice ASAP

PhilomenaButterfly · 29/08/2018 20:41

Take her!

Aspenfrost · 29/08/2018 20:42

It could develop into sepsis. Take her ASAP.

alwaysontimeneverlate · 29/08/2018 20:43

Take her and post pic of balloon hand poor kid.
