Am I unreasonable to not take daughter to hospital?

My daughter has a balloon of a hand. It's extremely bruised and swollen. However, she has no problem moving it and just slight pain when it's proded at. Absolutely no pain moving it.

My mum thinks I should take her and she will have to end up taking her Hmm

Opinions please?

My broken arm that looked like an extra elbow between the first one and my shoulder didn't hurt..... Looked gross & required surgery to reset. Personally if it was my baby I would be straight down to a&e ( I may be projecting guilt after breaking my brother's hand in a door) like a flash.

InsomniacAnonymous · 29/08/2018 20:54

Oh I've just thought, regarding my question a couple of posts up, did you mean that if your mum thinks your daughter should go to hospital she will have to take her because you're not going to?

Talith · 29/08/2018 20:56

Could be a break or sepsis, both best treated promptly.

downinthejunglee · 29/08/2018 20:57

I'm guessing OPs not coming back since we disagreed with her. Hopefully she's gone to a and e but I doubt it

Katescurios · 29/08/2018 20:57

Last year i fell on my hand, thought it was just bruised and swollen and could move it without too much pain, just stiff feeling. Next day it was more swollen and sore so asked at a pharmacy and they told me to go to a&e.

Xrays were done and they said they thought it was a small fracture of my finger so buddy taped.

Few days later got a call from hospital saying they had re looked at the xrays and wanted me to go back the ne xt day.

I did and that afternoon i was in surgery having my hand (metacarpal bone)/screwed back together.

Nearly a year later my ring finger is forever bent, i have reduced grip strength, stiffness and a high probability of developing arthritis.

I wouldnt have gone to A&E if the pharmacist hadnt told me to.

Get her an xray just to be sure.

AhNowTed · 29/08/2018 20:59

Your daughter needs to go to A&E, inconvenient and all as that is!

And "she's not a little kid she's 11".. what does that even mean?

You sound dismissive to say the least

DorothyBastard · 29/08/2018 20:59

You absolutely need to take her.

Jackieyoulooknice · 29/08/2018 21:00

Why are you so busy that you can't take your child to A&E? Fuck sake I cannot relate to some parents. As a mum you just drop what you're doing and put your kids first.

Jackieyoulooknice · 29/08/2018 21:00

Thank god your daughter has your mum, you sound neglectful

LellyMcKelly · 29/08/2018 21:02

Why wouldn’t you take her to A&E?

Touchmybum · 29/08/2018 21:03

Can't think of any good reason NOT to take her!

Kittykat93 · 29/08/2018 21:05

Take her.

Passmethecrisps · 29/08/2018 21:06

Are there some posters who don’t know there are other sections beyond AIBU? What a weird post.

Your daughter has a injury. You make the call whether to have her seen. The decision is on your head, not internet star gets on a sections known for bun fighting

Glumglowworm · 29/08/2018 21:07

Take her!

What kind of parent would refuse to take their injured child to get checked out?

Laiste · 29/08/2018 21:07

NO ONE at A&E will be put out about you bringing a child in to be seen. Especially with visible swelling like you describe.

In case that's what you're worried about OP.

WillowRose79 · 29/08/2018 21:08

Sounds broken

WillowRose79 · 29/08/2018 21:08

Also it's late on a Wednesday and she's young- if you dont take her I'd question you why you didn't If her hands that swollen

speakout · 29/08/2018 21:09

Hope you have taken her OP.

mumsastudent · 29/08/2018 21:09

if its an infection can go to bone - fgs take to a & e now - how many more times do you want us to say this!

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 29/08/2018 21:10

Hows her grip? If you give her a handful of playdoh or something can she squish it in her fist. Or squeeze the brake on a bike? If she can't then it's almost certainly broken but either way I think she needs seeing.

CherryChatsworth · 29/08/2018 21:10

This is completely beside the point but I have an 11 year old and I consider him a little kid?! She is little! You sound dismissive of her

We can't see her hand and we aren't doctors so it could be bruising or it could be broken. You need to make a judgement call yourself based on what you're seeing in front of you

1CantPickAName · 29/08/2018 21:11

@Jackieyoulooknice and @Passmethecrisps unnecessarily harsh

Bestseller · 29/08/2018 21:11

As you know what caused it I'd take her in the morning but if it's no better she does need to go

MajesticWhine · 29/08/2018 21:11

I would do the crisps test - i.e. does she reach for a bag of crisps if offered?
Seriously though, I'm quite a fan of 111, I would call them. I would probably not be in a rush to go to A&E at this time of the evening, but would do so if advised.

Starlight345 · 29/08/2018 21:14

Hopefully on your way to A&E op
