Just that really.... inspired by the recent sticker campaign.... "Women can't have penises" and "Some women have penises"....

Simple question - simple answer.

Me - Yes, I believe women can't have penises.

I teach adult learners, I have had two trans students. They were introduced to me as x name and x sex so I referred to them as such

So do I. But it's a courtesy. I don't believe it.

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:40

They go on testosterone levels. As many in the weightlifting community have said, is that a fair 'test' to have if it enables former male weightlifting record holders who transition in their late 30s to compete against women?

Hang on a second, are you telling me not everyone agrees?? I'm shocked. Now however do things get decided when things aren't cut and dried and not everyone agrees? It's like we need some sort of official overseer, some sort of group of people - a body - a governing body, who can compile all the different arguments alongside expert assessments and make a decision from there.

...oh, wait.

Quangot · 28/08/2018 16:40

If we can all "identify as" something we are not, do we actually take on that characteristic?

Did the white woman Rachel Dolezal become black the moment she claimed she was?

What about someone who decides they "identify as" having a genetic medical condition - but the genetic evidence says the opposite? Do they have the condition because they say they do, and are they entitled to treatment?

Why is impersonating a police officer disallowed if someone "identifies as" one, behaves like one and wears the correct uniform?

If the Prime Minister and the Queen woke up tomorrow morning and identified as each other, would they each have literally become the other person? Would their previous life experiences be irrelevant from that moment onwards? Would their husbands be bigots if they questioned it?

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 16:41

By this mentality, I should not call my trans students by their preferred names and refer to them as their preferred pronoun then?

I hope you're only pretending to be a teacher of some kind, with such poor logic? Who said you shouldn't do that? Nobody said that, did they?

There is a huge chasm between calling a mtf transperson whatever they want to be called, and actually accepting the complete untruth that women have penises. And I think you know that, don't you?

pigsDOfly · 28/08/2018 16:43

I can stick a horn on my forehead and tell everyone I believe I'm a unicorn.

I can shout as loud as I like look, look I've got a horn on my forehead that proves I'm unicorn.

However, in my heart and in the logical part of myself I'll know I'm not a unicorn, and in truth I won't be fooling anyone.

helpawomanout · 28/08/2018 16:43

Just adding my voice to the group that have functioning brain cells and learnt, at a young age, that biologically speaking, women do not have a penis.

Men pretending to be women as they believe a dress, flowery headband and a sultry pout is what makes a women are hilarious. Screw your gendered thinking. I can dress as most men do (due to gender) yet I am still a woman (due to sex).

Is it really that hard to understand?

packupandgohome · 28/08/2018 16:43

Also even if a man cuts his penis off - he still isn’t a woman.

Your chromosome dictates what sex you are. You can not change that. Why are people trying to erase years and years of scientifically proven biology just for the sake of making some one feel happy because they hate the genitals they have?

It’s DEMENTED!

Aeroflotgirl · 28/08/2018 16:43

I agree Pigs, good analogy.

packupandgohome · 28/08/2018 16:45

You didn’t like some thing in my post Roly? Heartbroken Hmm

Frequency · 28/08/2018 16:45

I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to a penis as a male gender organ. It is a sex organ. Sex cannot be changed. Gender should not exist. While gender does exist, people should live as they choose to live in the gender they choose but biological reality cannot be changed and the things TRAs are fighting for access to are segregated by sex.

BertrandRussell · 28/08/2018 16:48

So, RatRolyPoly- have I understood you correctly? You are saying TWAW means that "trans woman have adopted the gender stereotyped societal construct that is woman" and that it would be entirely OK and not "hate speech-y" at all to say "Trans women are not female"

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 16:50

Oh I see Rat - you think it's fair and you don't care what the women put at an unfair disadvantage think or how it pisses all over their achievements.

Got it.

Can you give me the explanation of why she was lifting 7 kilos more than her closest competitors best on her first attempt in her recent competition? The explanation that isn't about her having the body of a man?

ADastardlyThing · 28/08/2018 16:52

"I have had two trans students. They were introduced to me as x name and x sex so I referred to them as such"

Someone actually said "hi, this is Jaimee-Crystal and her sex is female"

How odd.

How do you know they are trans?

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:53

Not really Bertrand. TWAW because "woman" is an expression of identity; a combination of how someone identifies themselves and how we identify them. The most important of these is how they identify themselves. And frankly there is no better way to know how someone identifies themselves than them telling you. Easy.

And no, I wouldn't go around saying trans women are not female, why the bloody hell would you?? Who would do that? Who would go around making random statements about the biology of trans women for no reason at all? Strikes me that the only reason people would go around saying that was... well... to upset trans people. Maybe a leeeetle bit hate-speechy, no?

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:54

Oh I see Rat - you think it's fair and you don't care what the women put at an unfair disadvantage think or how it pisses all over their achievements.

Did I tell you I'm a sportswoman? Oh yes, I believe I did.

VickyEadie · 28/08/2018 16:55

To those bored by this topic, or who feel it's not their business, or that it's 'anti-trans', here's why you need to pay attention to it. I don't have any children, but I know that many of you on here do.

Already in the UK, schools have accepted 'guidance' telling them that boys who 'identify' as girls must be allowed to change, shower and play sport/compete with girls.

The Girl Guides Association now has policies which say that boys who identify as girls can not only join, but if they go on camps, etc with sleepovers, they must be allowed to share sleeping accommodation with girls - and the girls' parents should not be told about this.

Schools are accepting, furthermore, 'guidance' which says they should not tell children's parents if a child discloses that s/he believes they are 'trans', but should also encourage the child in this belief without the parents' knowledge.

Safeguarding policies are having a coach and horses driven through them - you need to be asking why this is happening alongside the story that a Green party activist who has aided the push towards this was last week sentenced to 22 years for raping and torturing a child.

Making us agree with the fiction that 'women have penises' is part and parcel of a move that will allow predatory men and paedophiles into girls' and women's spaces (NB And no, I am not suggesting that all transwomen are like this. I am suggesting that behind this are men who are and whose motives are very, very sinister).

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 16:56

TWAW because "woman" is an expression of identity; a combination of how someone identifies themselves and how we identify them. The most important of these is how they identify themselves. And frankly there is no better way to know how someone identifies themselves than them telling you. Easy

It's not easy, because its not TRUE. Being female is not something you can self identify as. You KNOW this is a fact.
What is your agenda that you are stating such obvious untruths as fact?

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 28/08/2018 16:56

You can entirely label a group based on some anatomical feature if you like.

How about just the fact that we are of the class that can produce eggs and bear offspring? Or that we are the class of people who are raped because of our bodies?

Lidlbutfierce · 28/08/2018 16:57

Women and women. Men are men. Wear what you want but don't make factually incorrect statements or threaten safe spaces.

helpawomanout · 28/08/2018 16:58

Women just went too far with this whole "equal rights" nonsense. Now men (you know, those with a penis) are just trying to put them back where they belong.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 28/08/2018 16:58

TWAW because "woman" is an expression of identity

But I’m a woman, as in I was born female and my body is that of a woman however I don’t express my identity as such. I don’t perform, or express - I just am.

BiologyIsReal · 28/08/2018 16:58

Did I tell you I'm a sportswoman? Oh yes, I believe I did.

What sport are you expert in Rat?

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:59

Being female is not something you can self identify as.

What you've done right here is substituted where I used the word "woman" with the word "female". Nifty, but not what I said. Being biologically female is not the same as being a woman - see the whole of this thread prior to this point.

What is my agenda? I suppose the question is what were you hoping to paint my agenda as by substituting the words in my post?

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 16:59

Oh I see Rat - you think it's fair and you don't care what the women put at an unfair disadvantage think or how it pisses all over their achievements.

Did I tell you I'm a sportswoman? Oh yes, I believe I did.

What's that got to do with anything?. You can be a sportswoman and not care. Same as you can be a woman and not care about the rights of other women.

longwayoff · 28/08/2018 17:00

Let me understand this. I get on a train and a woman jn the same carriage is texting photos of 'her' exposed penis and testicles to whomsoever. You expect me to accept this as ordinary womanly behaviour and not question whether this is simply an everyday male pervert seeking to practice the misogynistic behaviour with which so many penis free, women are used to encountering. Bullshit.
