Just that really.... inspired by the recent sticker campaign.... "Women can't have penises" and "Some women have penises"....

Simple question - simple answer.

Me - Yes, I believe women can't have penises.

Women do not have penises.

chaoscategorised · 28/08/2018 16:20

Clearly I am in the wrong place... Women can have penises. Men can have vaginas. It's also extremely not my business and I'm saddened to see so many people being so closed minded (or, more likely, driven by a small group of horrible rumours and stories).

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 28/08/2018 16:20

RRP could you answer my questions about people who up until this point were known as women due to their biological class. Are they able to meet without including people who were known as men due to their biological class? Each biological class has specific needs are we allowed to meet/label ourselves based on that?

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 16:21

You're on the wrong planet, because neither of those things are true, and you know it.

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/08/2018 16:21

Frequency my DS doesn't feel, act or dress in a hyper-feminine way. He wears woman's tops, carries a small pink satchel for essentials and wears flowery hairclips.

ChellySmuff · 28/08/2018 16:24

No. Women do not have penises.

Transgender women are a sub culture/sub set of men, not a ‘new and improved’ set of women.

You can not change sex. It’s scientifically impossible.

Postino · 28/08/2018 16:24

Problem here is both 'sides' think they're the ones liberating people from gender stereotypes.

One side by saying you can change sex (which they might call gender), the other by saying let's remove gender altogether (meaning gender stereoypes)

But while female people are oppressed by male people, it's vital we have a clear universally-understood word for those groups

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 16:25

A male presenting as female is really easy to spot most of the time and vice versa.

You'd never know all the times you've been wrong. Unless you've been following them into toilet cubicles just to check...

So you're suggesting that if I challenge a male bodied person with a beard for instance (see Alex widening the bandwith of gender etc) as they're going into female toilets or arriving to perform my smear and they then tell me they're a woman, I have to believe them?

Oh right, no biological woman has ever had facial hair?

They're still a woman. A man with a beard saying they're a woman is not. You can tell the difference by looking..

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:25

RRP could you answer my questions about people who up until this point were known as women due to their biological class.

Sure, okay

Are they able to meet without including people who were known as men due to their biological class?

As usual with discrimination, you are only able to legally discriminate when it is a proportionate means to a legitimate aim. I think that's a bloody good law. So assuming you're meeting for a legitimate purpose and excluding trans women is a proportionate action, sure, why not?

Each biological class has specific needs are we allowed to meet/label ourselves based on that?

Um, yes, of course. You can entirely label a group based on some anatomical feature if you like. "Support group for people with webbed toes", "Education on how best to tend your testicles", I don't know, sure, whatever you like.

BertrandRussell · 28/08/2018 16:25

Will somebody explain to me once and for all why it is anti trans to say that women do 't have penises but that trans women sometimes do. And that trans women should have the right to live their lives peacefully and I harassed and protected by the laws that protect every one of us?

And also, where did the idea that trans women are literally women came from? Who first said it and what did thefhy use to back the idea up?

Tartyflette · 28/08/2018 16:26

But it's not just 'them and their scientists' is it?
It's their PR and media people, their legal people, their supporters and donors, not to mention their 'not wanting to offend or be on the wrong side of history' and their just plain 'shit-scared of the backlash' people too.

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/08/2018 16:28

Melanippe I think the whole premise of the OP is goady and anti-trans.

Frequency · 28/08/2018 16:28

The vocal TRAs dress and act in a hyperfemine way. I have no issue with trans people who simply want to live their lives without trampling on women's rights and the rights of FtM trans people, regardless of how they dress.

I will say, though, I don't know any girls above the age of 10 who wear flowery hair clips or carry pink bags. That being said, IDK how old your child is but if he wants to wear pink and flowers, he should go for it.

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:29

It's their PR and media people, their legal people, their supporters and donors, not to mention their 'not wanting to offend or be on the wrong side of history' and their just plain 'shit-scared of the backlash' people too.

You really think this is happening? To sports governing bodies? In any measurable way? Do you know anything about sports governing bodies at all, or have you merely been indoctrinated to believe that anyone not entirely "gender critical" and unwaveringly excluding trans women must have been "got at" or coerced??

Don't you think it's more likely that the sports governing bodies don't agree with you because the science simply doesn't agree with you?

packupandgohome · 28/08/2018 16:29

Of course they don’t and if you pretend they do - your part of the fucking problem.

Trans women KNOW they are not female
We ALL KNOW trans women ARE NOT female so why fucking lie?? Why pretend otherwise it’s crazy !!

When a woman says they do believe that - they throw every single natel female under the bus. This really isn’t about sweet little Hayley Croppers of coronation street there is a huge movement to push women and girls in to a seriously dangerous situation.

Shame on you if you champion this.

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 16:31

Nice to see a really carefully constructed post there to explain your point.

"Women who don't agree with me are a threat to all women - because bad things will happen - because I said so! For shaaaaame!!"

Okay. Cool.

NonaGrey · 28/08/2018 16:32

I don’t understand why stating a biological fact is “anti-trans”.

Trans people exist. I believe their right not to be discriminated against for their personal choices should be protected.

Nevertheless I am unable to put my hand on my heart and say that trans-women are women. (Or that trans men are men)

It’s patently untrue. Polticial forces may force society to pretend it’s true but it’s Emperor’s New Clothes and we all know it.

RitaMills · 28/08/2018 16:35

I don’t live in a make believe fairy land so of course I am 100% in agreement that women don’t have penises, because they don’t. I’m fully behind the sticker woman campaign.

CurbsideProphet · 28/08/2018 16:35

It's very much The Emperor's New Clothes. What can schools teach in human biology without being attacked for being anti trans?

OutPinked · 28/08/2018 16:35

By this mentality, I should not call my trans students by their preferred names and refer to them as their preferred pronoun then? Hmm.

I teach adult learners, I have had two trans students. They were introduced to me as x name and x sex so I referred to them as such. It didn’t matter to me what genitalia they were packing and why should it? This is out and out discrimination. I naively thought better of MN.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 28/08/2018 16:36

Women do not have penises.
Men do not have wombs, or vaginas, and they do not menstruated.
Trans women are trans women.
Trans men are trans men.

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 16:37

Write to the governing body. Tell them you understand the physiological impact in weightlifting of having been born male better than them and their scientists do. Dare you.

Many athetes and the Australian Weightlifting Federation's chief executive, Michael Keelan, said it was unfair to other competitors for her to compete against women.

They go on testosterone levels. As many in the weightlifting community have said, is that a fair 'test' to have if it enables former male weightlifting record holders who transition in their late 30s to compete against women?

This IS pissing all over sportsWOMEN.

FloraFox · 28/08/2018 16:38

A person with a penis is male or intersex but not female.
A person with a vagina is female or intersex but male.

Human beings cannot change sex.

Anything statement that is contrary to this is an anti-science ideology.

RedSaidBread · 28/08/2018 16:39

Women don't have penises.

I won't bow to demands to gaslight myself on this and deny material reality.

Frequency · 28/08/2018 16:39

By this mentality, I should not call my trans students by their preferred names and refer to them as their preferred pronoun then?

I think you're misunderstanding the argument. Of course, use their preferred name and pronoun but if they ever commited crime, needed a place a refuge or participated in sports, they should be categorized by their sex, not their gender as differences between the sexes (not genders) are why these things were seperated in the first place.

No-one really cares what pronouns or names people use or what they wear or how they present in public and as far I can see, everyone agrees trans people have the right to safety.
