loveyouradvice · 28/08/2018 14:36

Just that really.... inspired by the recent sticker campaign.... "Women can't have penises" and "Some women have penises"....

Simple question - simple answer.

Me - Yes, I believe women can't have penises.

"And yet men all around the world, in their infinite wisdom, somehow have always known which of the population to sexually assault, rape, murder, burn alive for being raped, deny an education to, deny abortion to, deny the vote to."

Yes, this!

Alaaya · 28/08/2018 15:47

YABVVVU to put this on AIBU without a 'U' and solely to drum up support for a particular political PoV.

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/08/2018 15:48

Oh goody, another anti-trans thread. How do you hide threads? HmmBiscuit

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 28/08/2018 15:48

Women do not have penises.

This is a fact.

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 15:49

Identity trumps expression, because if you think someone is a guy at first glance then they correct you, most people would accept the correction

Why? Why would you say 'oh I'm sorry yes you are a woman' when that isn't true?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 28/08/2018 15:50

I honestly don't know what to think. I do know that it's nowhere near as black and white as DH thinks it is, not now that I've loved a child who has begun the process of changing gender

I think it depends on what you define as a "woman" and what it means to you to be a "woman". If you are asking if someone with XX chromosomes can be born with a penis then yes - it is called XX male syndrome. However genetically "normal" babies born with XX chromosomes have vaginas not penises.

However I think you are talking gender not biology and in this I think you are welcome to dress as you wish and to identify as whichever gender you choose. However as Frequency said:
If you live as a woman but have a penis you are biologically male. You belong in a male prison, male sports, male changing rooms, male refuges etc as those spaces are separated by sex not gender. If you wish to present as a woman while you're doing that is your choice and you should be safe and free from prejudice in making that choice.

Melanippe · 28/08/2018 15:51

It's not "anti-trans" to understand that women cannot have penises Philomena so stop being ridiculous.

HappyAli8 · 28/08/2018 15:51

This is an odd question.

But yes it's possible. If someone was born inter-sex (possessing both male and female sex organs; albeit slightly underdeveloped) and that person chose to live as a woman, then yeah that woman would technically have a penis.

Its a bit rare but it happens.

RatRolyPoly · 28/08/2018 15:51

Why? Why would you say 'oh I'm sorry yes you are a woman' when that isn't true?

How do you know it isn't true? I was mistaken for a boy once. If I'd told that shop assistant I was actually a girl, do you think she'd have told me it simply wasn't true? Would she have demanded proof?

And unless you're going to go around demanding proof every time you're pretty damn sure someone is trans, I think you're at some point just going to have to accept that "woman" and "man" have social meanings.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3349118-Pro-Trans-article-Women-Can-Have-Penises-Katherine-Jenkins-Nottingham-University

Another reason that we need to keep stating basic facts. Women do not have male sex organs.

Tartyflette · 28/08/2018 15:53

Just to be absolutely, crystal, clear, RRP, you think that transwomen should tick the M box?
So they should definitely NOT enter womens' sporting events, or scholarship awards for women, or programmes designed to help women get into politics?
Because that ship has sailed....

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 28/08/2018 15:54

RatRolyPoly

How and where do you suggest people who were previously classed as women meet to discuss their particular issues without people who were previously classed as men? Or is that idea how illegal or hateful?

I’m pregnant, I have had to battle to have a home birth purely because when I previously gave birth in hospital I was assaulted by a man staying on the ward. How and where can I discuss my biology without encountering people who share his biology?

At work if I treated people according to their “gender identity” rather than sex (which is very clear after 3 seconds in 99% of cases) a lot of patients would die.

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/08/2018 15:55

Bertrand I have a new found respect for you. DS1 is trans and I always thought that you were a trans-hater. I stand corrected. 😀

Branleuse · 28/08/2018 15:55

Oh goody, another anti-trans thread. How do you hide threads hmmbiscuit

Its pretty easy to work out how to hide threads, but im assuming this lack of ability to work out the obvious, somewhat explains why you might think asserting scientific truth is anti-trans

longwayoff · 28/08/2018 15:56

Definitively.

Tartyflette I can tell you with absolute confidence that as a sportswoman I think the people best placed to decide who competes in which category of a particular sport are the sports governing bodies themselves.

Any who thinks they have a greater knowledge of the sport, understanding of the effects of different physiological traits specific to that sport, funding for and access to the best available science on the subject and love for that sport and the people who do it; well anyone who thinks they have all of that more than the sports governing bodies is a jumped-up egotist who pisses all over the sportswomen they pretend to stand up for.

And right now, the governing bodies allow trans athletes to compete with various stipulations placed upon them as dictated by their individual sport. Every time new science comes out this is reviewed.

Is there some reason why you think you know better?

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/08/2018 16:00

Sword but does it belong to you? Your DP may beg to differ.

TheCountryGirl · 28/08/2018 16:01

"And yet men all around the world, in their infinite wisdom, somehow have always known which of the population to sexually assault, rape, murder, burn alive for being raped, deny an education to, deny abortion to, deny the vote to."

And they also know trans 'women' are men because they give them far more respect and listen to them much more than they would ever do to women.

Aeroflotgirl · 28/08/2018 16:01

Why is it anti trans to state biological fact, TRAS hate fact as it goes against their 'beliefs'. Some transwomen do have penises, that is why there should be that distinction between Women and Transwomen, to rely that biological difference, that Transwomen are still biologically Male. There genes and chromosomes have not magically changed to XX.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 28/08/2018 16:02

Yeah, if you have to produce ID it's your biology they're interested in.

And yet people are having the sex on their drivers licence without any proof of biology or transition.

Aeroflotgirl · 28/08/2018 16:03

I don't think this happens with Transmen, I don't think the Biological men would allow this.

InTheRoseGarden · 28/08/2018 16:03

I said “no” when I meant “yes” Blush.

To be clear: women don’t have penises, obviously.
