Simple question - simple answer.

women can have penises. gender identity is mental and while usually corresponds to sexual organs- it doesn’t always. and that is okay

Gender identity is whatever you are having yourself, but women can't have penises. Transwomen can though. You may feel like you should have been a woman, and choose to present as if you were a woman, but you're still not an actual woman.

What is so wrong with the word transwomen? If we're meant to be the transphobes, why are they the ones so scared of being called trans, so much so that we are all supposed to call them something else that they are not? It's pretty self hating and transphobic.

Tartyflette · 28/08/2018 17:11

As for the science there does not seem to be much research on this yet, although the IOC has halved its previous permitted testosterone level for transwomen athletes. But even if a transwoman athlete gets their T levels down they may well retain musculoskeletal advantages -- an IOC member and academic is to conduct what he believes will be the first research into whether transwoman who have taken hormones retained such an advantage and whether a 'muscle remains a male muscle.'
So with the science still undecided, according to the IOC's own member, (on the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission) why is it not erring on the side of caution unless it is subject to other pressures?

And, I repeat, why would sporting bodies be immune to such pressures when governments, political organisations, police forces and educators, to name a few, are most definitely not?

genz · 28/08/2018 17:11

transwomen is a fine term- as is the term ciswomen. these are specific terms, but both terms are WOMEN

DixieFlatline · 28/08/2018 17:11

And no, I wouldn't go around saying trans women are not female, why the bloody hell would you?? Who would do that? Who would go around making random statements about the biology of trans women for no reason at all? Strikes me that the only reason people would go around saying that was... well... to upset trans people. Maybe a leeeetle bit hate-speechy, no?

If I now ask you "Would you say the sky is brown with blue polka dots?", will you respond with this same little diatribe?

"WHY would anyone go around saying that? Bigots!"

packupandgohome · 28/08/2018 17:13

genz how would a Male know what a female feels like inside

Is it’s a bit like a dog knowing what a cat feels like ?? No??

Or is It the urge to wear lipstick? Have long hair? Paint their nails, wear skirts ??

Mrbatmun · 28/08/2018 17:14

female can refer to sexual organs- biologically female = vagina, but to be a woman is to identify as such- and that is about how you feel inside.

Says who?

ArcheryAnnie · 28/08/2018 17:14

Women don't have penises.

2nd rule of misogyny: women saying no to men is a hate crime.

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 17:15

Nope, Ciswomen is a hateful term, wheras transwoman is not, its accurate and appropriate. Only one is an actual woman, which if you still haven't understood mean adult human female. A transwoman is an adult human MALE.

DixieFlatline · 28/08/2018 17:15

transwomen is a fine term- as is the term ciswomen. these are specific terms, but both terms are WOMEN

Playing stupid little games with language doesn't impact material reality, you know that, right?

Same goes for Rat's daft 'but how do you know what a stranger's chromosomes are, eh?' nonsense - we attempt to correctly identify a stranger's sex in order to use the correct pronouns, etc. The idea that we might occasionally get it wrong does not change that intention, or give 'woman' and 'man' a different meaning. When we say 'that person over there's a man!', we do not fucking mean they identify as one while possessing XX chromosomes.

AnEPleaseBob · 28/08/2018 17:16

Because its true, and because its not for no reason at all? If you haven't undertsood the reasons, I suggest you educate yourself.

Mrbatmun · 28/08/2018 17:17

You can't identify into womanhood. Because if you could you would be able to identify out of it, and you can't do that. Because don't you think that if you could, there are millions of women throughout history who would have done so in order to identify out of their oppression? Don't you think it's a bit offensive to all of those women to refer to womanhood as something you can identify your way in and out of?

genz · 28/08/2018 17:18

someone born with male sex organs may relate more to women, feel uncomfortable beibg described as male and just KNOW it’s not who they are. I can’t say for certain what else leads someone to realise they are trans, as I’m cis, but their feelings are VALID and they deserve to be treated in a way that makes them feel comfortable. the suicide rates for transgender people who are mocked and belittled for the way they feel are terrifying- I feel steongly on this subject as I have friends who are trans who are rejected by their parents for many of the reasons people are listing on this thread about why women can’t have penises. it’s complex, yes, but we shouldn’t dismiss people’s feelings so thoughtlessly

packupandgohome · 28/08/2018 17:19

Fuck cis

I was born female so I don’t need the trans pushed prefix of cis. Females have not needed it for a millennia and we don’t need it now thanks.

You just stick to trans women. We already are women so we don’t need an explanation

genz · 28/08/2018 17:19

exactly??? so why is the distinction so important? just say women.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 28/08/2018 17:19

Or rather I don't believe that gender is innate, but a social construct

Same here

Which is what i thought i said....but ive got a headache so probably didnt Grin

AlphaBravo · 28/08/2018 17:20

If you were born with a penis, you are not a woman. You can be as feminine as you want. You are not and never will be a 'woman'.

Why is this always up for debate? Basic fucking biology.

VickyEadie · 28/08/2018 17:20

Correct. Moreover, as I indicated earlier, schools are being given 'guidance' that any boys identifying as girls must be treated as if they are girls - and allowed to play sport and compete with girls.

The impact this will have on girls' participation in sport will be significant - and the implications for their safety similarly so.

There's a reason why we segregate boys and girls, women and men by sex. Allowing penis-holders to claim the legal fiction of being women will be devastating to us.

ADastardlyThing · 28/08/2018 17:20

I'm not and never will be a cis woman. I'm a woman. Cis is not required.

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 17:21

You can 'feel' whatever you like. You can believe whatever you like.

It doesn't make it true.

dontbringmedown · 28/08/2018 17:22

The earth is a sphere.
Humans need oxygen to live.
Women don't have penises.
Men don't have vaginas.
Human beings cannot change sex.

This, with bells on.

WOMEN DO NOT HAVE PENISES

dontbringmedown · 28/08/2018 17:22

and I think it's a brilliant idea for a thread.

Mrbatmun · 28/08/2018 17:23

someone born with male sex organs may relate more to women, feel uncomfortable beibg described as male and just KNOW it’s not who they are.

I'm not denying this, but that does not mean that humans can actually change sex.

I can’t say for certain what else leads someone to realise they are trans, as I’m cis, but their feelings are VALID and they deserve to be treated in a way that makes them feel comfortable.

Yes, of course they do. Until that need to be treated that way impacts on someone else.

dontbringmedown · 28/08/2018 17:24

I have one, I’m a man.

As is anyone else with a penis.

Ihavethepower · 28/08/2018 17:24

someone born with male sex organs may relate more to women, feel uncomfortable beibg described as male and just KNOW it’s not who they are.

That doesn't mean 'who they are' is able to change sex.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 28/08/2018 17:25

By this mentality, I should not call my trans students by their preferred names and refer to them as their preferred pronoun then?

I call trans people by their preferred name and pronoun

I think most people on the thread would (I appreciate not all as people might struggle with using the 'wrong' pronoun)

Why wouldnt you call someone by their name...thats just silly
